Dave and Craig shootout the Yamaha P125, Yahama P115 and the Kawai ES110 with some interesting results. If you are considering buying an 88 key, weighted piano replacement for under $1000 this is a must watch!

I bought a P115 a year ago and now my son is composing his own music and the piano sounds fantastic. I really like the sound it has and for the price we bought it for it was the absolute best buy. I paid 285 USD when it went on a sale here in China and yes it is the original piano. My wife places it as well and they both love it. It is very portable. I bought a portable stand and seat for it that works and for the price I can not complain one bit. The piano is a steal and we love it. Nothing more to say really. Have a great day.

@@batesy1996 I currently (still) have the P-125 and the keys/action are/is plastic, feel plastic, AND spongy!! It's definitely NOT as close to a piano you'll get without getting a real one. Even in this price range there are better ones when it comes to action/keys. And for me action/keys the most important factor besides sound quality/feeling.

I put a deposit on an ES110 today. I had my heart set on the P125 or the Roland FP30 but every store I checked in Aus (online, obviously) was out of stock. The local store had a Kawai coming within a week (so they said), so I went with that - plus the fact that it was $100-150AUD less expensive than the other two. I'm pretty sure I would have been happy with any one of the three though. Btw, I only ended up watching this vid in order to stave off any chance of buyer's regret lol. Good to see the boys here had nice things to say about the Kawai then. :)

I prefer the sound of the P-115 which is also the one I own. The Kawai sounds a tad bit artificial to me and the P-125 too bright. But that's probably just my taste. I absolutely love the Yamaha P-115. It's the first digital piano I really feel 100% confortable on and which makes me forget that I'm just playing a digital piano. I used to own a Roland FP-8 in the early 90s and then a Yamaha P-80 in the early 2000s. The P-115 beats them both.

Being an avid Yamaha keyboard user home, studio and regular live shows with working, local and touring cover bands. I have noticed that the sound on the P115 and up models have a much brighter subtly more pleasing sound with a detectable "ring", sounding very much more like the acoustic C3 models than the P models before the P115 which would include the older and lower numbered models like the P105, P95, P85, P80, P45, etc...I own 2 105's, the 95, the 85 and the 45, I sold my 22 yr old P80 just a few months ago--- all great instruments no doubt. But starting with the 115 and up I absolutely notice that these models have a higher level of piano acoustics. If you're a basic rock keyboardist any P model will suffice for your needs. If you want to do jazz, fusion, prog, classical, small acoustic combos, piano accompanying a singer or singers, the P115 and up models would be the better choices (the P80, 85, 95 105 are no longer manufactured but there of tons of them for sale used at a reasonable price on ebay, craigslist, etc...). I love the compact, lighter weight P121 and will be buying one later this month. Will be my permanent gigging keyboard and retire the old 115 and 105s.

ES110 emulates the wprkings of a grand piano when the pedal is pressed and it does half-damper as well. I don't know about the Yamaha models. I use the MIDI ports for my little synths like MiniAk or MicroKorg. I agree. Kawai wins. It has a rotary simulator for Jazz organ that can be switched in real time too. Although i use my Casio MZX500 for that, but it still comes in handy if I'm using the ES110 by itself for church or choir practice. And I prefer the Kawai action. Have played Yamaha portable pianos in studio situations before.

My Previous post mentioned that I could not get the MIDI to work on my new P125. I'm happy to report it was my mistake. The USB input I was using was not working properly. Once I connected the MIDI from the P125 to a proper working USB on my Mac computer everything worked perfectly. I did install the Yamaha driver previously but I'm not sure that would have been necessary had my USB connection been good. At any rate, the MIDI does work with my Mac running Sierra (not High Sierra). What is nice is that it transmits digital audio as well as MIDI information. This allows you to record an audio track on your DAW with the direct full fidelity pure digital sounds of the piano and other P125 instruments and no audio interface necessary. I'm warming up to the P-125. Still trying to figure out how to have the USB feed my ipad for the "Smart Pianist" app and have another USB to my DAW. I guess I could use a MIDI splitter from the USB connection on the P125 but I haven't tried it yet. Cheers!

Just purchased a Yamaha 125 and unfortunately the MIDI is not recognized by my Mac with Sierra. I've read online that the drivers don't work so now I'm stuck. I bought the 125 for piano but also as a MIDI controller for Logic and it does not work. I'll contact Yamaha and see if there a fix on it's way but in the meantime I have a new 125 but can't use it with my DAW. Another good reason for good ole 5 pin din MIDI connectors. BTW the USB does work with my ipad with Smart Pianist.

Sorry, you're doing something wrong. Download Yamaha's COMPUTER-RELATED OPERATIONS pdf document. You'll see that (unlike with Windows) the Mac needs no drivers ("For Mac OS computers, you can use the standard driver available on the Mac OS; there is no need to install another driver"), and the P125 works with Mac OS X 10.11.0 - 10.13.x (and Sierra is 10.12).

I cant really decide between 115 and 125 any help?
@airtimedesign
@airtimedesign 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew, I was going to buy a 115 but walked out of the store with a 125. The reasons are as follows. First the sound of the 125 is better because of better speakers and more dynamic sampling. The speaker system has been upgraded to include a tweeter and woofer on each stereo side. In a nutshell the sound system has higher fidelity. There are now 4 levels of dynamic sampling on the 125 as opposed to 3 on the 115. This means that each note is sampled at 4 different key strikes starting with pianissimo, mezzo pianissimo, mezzo forte, and forte. This allows you more expression when playing. The second reason is the additional sounds. It's not much more but any addition to the sound bank is a plus. Third reason is the "Smart Pianist" app. This really makes the P125 much easier to navigate and enhances the playing experience. Lastly the P125 can transmit digital audio via the USB connection to your DAW. This allows you to record the pure digital audio quality of all the sounds on the 125 to you DAW. Another feature with the smart app is the ability to have your itunes song library playback on the P125. This is great for practicing but it also has an application for having background tracks for live. You might have drums and bass song tracks and play live over it to sound like a full band.

Brooks Reid hey, I’d appreciate it if u could leave some experience feedback if you still use the 125. I’m choosing between the 125 and es110, and even though I like the sound of 110 more I really think that I might miss out on 125’s features. I haven’t played piano for about 10 years and forgot everything (played it for about 5 years when I was a kid) and even though I want to learn and master some classical pieces I also want to someday create my own music but not classical, so the fact that Yamaha already stores a lot of voices is appealing and also if I’m correct it pairs with a pc easier(?) and has more to offer? My impressions is that es110 isn’t as versatile. I’d appreciate any sort of answer, cheers :)

I just bought a Yamaha P125 and the difference between the 115 is-Improved speaker system (woofer and tweeter for each side) and 4 level dynamic sampling. When you A-B them you will find the 125 is brighter sounding. Initially to my ears the 115 sounded smoother but after extended listening the 115 sounds duller. A matter of perspective I suppose. They both sound and play great. I choose the 125 mainly because the 115 did not have proper audio outputs. The 125 has 1/4" outputs. More sounds and features weighed into my decision also.

Wife didn't like the feel of the Kawai. Keys felt weird with too much bounce back and it sounded in dull like in box...too warm and mellow. I am a fan of dark sounding instruments and liked the build quality of it...seemed like solid equipment and I personally felt that keys had a nice weight, but did notice how they were quick to bounce back and were rubbery. We couldn't turn the volume up enough for it fill a medium sized room. Speaker aren't positioned for performing. She immediately liked Yamaha 125. Keys are lighter and more comfortable. Obviously cleaner brighter sound and full at the same time. You can use ipad to control everything on the Yamaha and she already uses it for music. The increased treble sound means you don't need to turn the volume up as much. It seems clunker and build cheaper fro what I could tell.
