I love this keyboard. It gives me all the features I need for small-scale live work and has heaps of fun things to amuse and entertain. Its sounds range from solid and capable to really quite advanced. Also, this is the first PSR-E to have 48 note polyphony and 6 watt speakers either side.

I stumbled across this PSR-E453 review and I'm glad I did. I was thinking of buying the Casio CTK7200 but after I saw your review and demo, I went and bought one, purely because of the quality of sounds and the mini live synth knobs. I used pitch bend a lot on my old Roland GW8 and this sounded great. Not sure if it has a modulation switch like the CTK7200 though. Thanks for a great demo, it was your demo that convinced me to buy one from Amazon. And yes, I also play electric Violin, in which i should be able to plug-in using the aux in socket :-)

Thanks for the comprehensive review I'm a very old rock drummer, amatuer guitar player and can bang out some (very few) piano chords. One grandkid has just started guitar lessons and shows real promise, so I'd like to get into the home studio recording thing...who knows where it will lead. I haven't decided on a stand alone recorder or computer based DAW. That will come later but I'd like to add a keyboard now. After lots of snooping around on this interweb thing, I had decided on the Yamaha PSR-EW400 for all of the sounds and features but didn't see a need for 76 keys. I was about to 'pop' for that model but after snooping around at the Yamaha site I discovered the Yamaha PSR-E453 with 61 keys. Both keyboards seem to have the same features, capabilities and specs with the only difference being the number of keys. Am I missing anything and what are the pros and cons of 61 keys versus 76? Thanks

Stereo to mono convertor the right way to do it in on tales from the secret lab. I made a couple very easily. Mono quarter inch plug, couple 10k resistors, stereo minI plug on the other end. That plugs into a quarter inch stereo plug adaptor for the headphones out. The stereo mini jack can plug into your phone or mp3 player and the other end to an amp. Great fun.

Hi thanks for this amazing review I watched your other vid on things you didn't like and it seems worth buying it. If you don't mind got 3 questions. 1. Do you think it's a good thing for a beginner ? 2. Is it easy to learn the whole looping and effects things ? 3. Does it have any ambient sounds ?
@gearfacts
@gearfacts 6 жыл бұрын
Good on you for being a well-informed buyer! Yes I think it's a good beginner's keyboard - you could go lower and simpler, but it depends on what kind of person the beginner is (confident/cautious/ambitious etc). The looping and effects thing is simple when you know the keys to press to set it up. Some keys require a LONG press to get certain functions. And finally, yes it's got lots of ambient sounds and you can always synthesize your own. Thanks for watching Gearfacts, please share with your friends :)

@gearfacts
@gearfacts 6 жыл бұрын
Not for a beginner. All of the 88 key models I've seen have weighted keys. If you want a bit more space though, I'm pretty sure the PSR-EW400 has 76 keys. Apart from that it's almost the same as the PSR-E453.

I finally bought one Xmas eve. traded in my pse e403 which had an annoying high pitched processing sound when plugged into an amplifier. since I sold my MO 6 last spring needed a gig worthy board. will test it live on new years eve next weekend. it has some white noise on the output but only requires minimum use of a noise gate. the rotary is alright by itself however my boss me80 provides the programmable efx for me including rotary. thanks for your reviews and wish me luck next weekend.

Hey man let us know how it goes - that's interesting and a little concerning about the background noise, I always thought it was totally clean. Anyway, thanks for watching Gearfacts!

Got to play a little over an hour. Sounded excellent going into boss ME 80 into the pa. Set up registrations with only the voices playing to avoid hitting buttons and having something play. Put split point at the highest key so hitting split instantly puts a different voice or the same one and octave lower. Definitely a keeper. Thanks again for your reviews.

What a brilliant idea, I'm gonna do that. Thanks again! Gearfacts
@pirinst

Wait,there's more. Online or KZbin look up make a did stereo mixer cable. Quarter inch mono plug on one end and one eighth inch stereo plug on the other. A resistor in line on one channel wire prevents phase cancelation. Means stereo out from headphone jack of keyboard into mono jack of amp will play both stereo sides with no center cancellation or cokes wah aound. Fixes the face of these things having no line output for an amp. You could use a mono plug but only get one side that way.

question, does the rotary dsp speed sound reasonable when adjusting it with the assignable knobs? that is really the only reason I would upgrade from my psr e 403 to this model. the guitar shop doesn't have an out of box unit for me to test yet. Currently use a boss me80 for rotary speed rates from the e 403. thanks.

I think it sounds good, typical Yamaha quality. I'm going to do one more video about the 453 so I'll try to remember to include a few rotary sounds :)

pirinst had detailed go on the rotary effect last night. Sounds really good on organ of course, and also on long synth sweeps. It adds a really nice octave-up gleam to the sound. Nice and creamy. Can't be assigned to foot pedal sadly - control knobs only. Great effect.

Hi there gearfacts and everyone watching. Great vid. Can the patterns feature be used in effect as a kind of sequencer - in other words, can I create a backing repeating beat and then record parts over it. What I mean is something that would avoid having to "play and record" the beat in real time. Thanks!
@gearfacts
@gearfacts 6 жыл бұрын
Not really, Milan. It's more about blending different tracks from the styles section. So you can have a blues bassline with a rock beat, for example, or techno chords to a shuffle beat, and so on. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but that's my understanding at this time. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)

@gearfacts
@gearfacts 7 жыл бұрын
ANURANJAN .A They are totally different machines. If you want an all-in-one thing with onboard sounds and speakers then go for the Yamaha. If you are happy to rely on a computer to provide the sounds and you've got an external set of speakers then the notation might be better. Also, novation gear is really complicated to operate when compared with Yamaha.

Hi man,feature wise,this or EW 400?i'm torn between the two,thanks
@gearfacts
@gearfacts 7 жыл бұрын
Look to me like the only difference is that the EW has louder speakers. If that's an important factor for you then it might be worth spending a little extra. For me, the PSR-E speakers are already on the louder side for a home keyboard. You might need a bit more volume for playing with a drummer or a guitar player who likes to push it :) Thanks for watching Gearfacts!

I don't think there's a pedal-free sustain function as such (like there is in equivalent Casio keyboards) so you might just have to rely on the reverb effect, accessed by repeatedly pressing the function key. Hope that helps. If I discover anything else I'll let you know. Thanks for watching Gearfacts :)

Dear Manufacturers of Yamaha, Casio, Roland, Korg, M-AUDIO, Novation keylaunch Keyboard Engineers, I humbly request you all, Either your Keyboards are good quality or bad quality, First you modify and add 8 Tone Registration banks buttons towards right side of the keyboard as it is in PSR 1100 & PSR 2100, which will be more convenient to operate immediately the tones one after the other during live programs Or for Studio Recordings. But where as I have come across most of the Yamaha, Casio, Roland, Korg keyboards, which is most inconvenient to operate the tone banks, which is in Calculator type, I deeply hesitate this type of worst egineering plan, Don't say that this type of engineering plan is impossible in this modern technology. Everything is possible but except giving life to human body. Dear Amazon, Flipkart, or any other sellers, I kindly request you to intimate this issue to the keyboard manufacture, I am writing this review on behalf of all Keyboard players, Thanks & Regards , Elkana David, KGF.
