This is the keyboard where I learned basic multi-track recording. It has a 16 track sequencer when you insert a small floppy disk. I have moved onto psr-s910, motif and modx but I still think about my old psr540 it had something special. Thanks for the nostalgia trip.

This is the same model keyboard that was used for the 1997 Titanic movie soundtracks. We all remember those songs so well. Now my 8 year old grandson is learning to play this keyboard.

the features of the keyboard were on par to do a music production on that time which was special and ahead of things. Especially the dsp, harmony, sustain and 16 track recording with disks, MIDI giant i would call it. Special one to use since 2001.

Definitely a notable model, with XG sounds plus effects it certainly was impressive

TechSynth3!!! Thank you for playing it.. I used to play that as on my dad's keyboard when I was just a child and I loved the sound! :P It always reminded me of the scene from Terminator 1 where they're escaping the bar :P The sound is beautiful... I never thought I would hear it again - I have no access to the keyboard anymore. The last time I heard this was 17 years ago!

Gearfacts Thank you for the answer! I wanted to ask one thing: do you think you could make sometimes a recording of the demo number 4? I think it was some beautiful piano concert and I still remember the melody, but there is no way I could find it anywhere on the internet :-/ (although I found a few PSR-540 demos, but not this one, sadly)

I played around with one of these that's in the family in November of 2020, and it was probably one of the factors that contributed to me buying a PSR-e463. Now that I'm thinking of something else (since I hardly ever use the live knobs and sampling function on the 463 outside of noodling) I kinda want to trade them for this one now. Plus, the 463 doesn't have the cheesy XG rendition of "My Heart Will Go On" in it lol
@gearfacts2 жыл бұрын
Hmm yes it's an interesting comparison. I think I'd miss the dynamic controls on the 463, but the 540 has more effects and general synth capabilities. Both super-fun keyboards!

Full-fledged 16 track sequencer is something missing in today's Yamaha budget arranger keyboards, such as the Yamaha PSR-E473 , I wish this feature makes a comeback on this segment

thank you for this! I am keen to know one thing, if anyone can help with this dilemma, I'd be grateful: I got 2 options , yamaha psr 540 or yamaha psr e333 that is the question like which to choose... the first is newer of course, but this one has the advantage of an older and might more trustworthy mechanic as I see... am I wrong? Pls advise me guys which would be best deal to buy for a beginner thanks a lot!

Any tips on using headphones with it? I tried plugging in my basic studio headphones and it did not work, do you know if it needs an adapter or anything?
@gearfacts5 жыл бұрын
If the pin fits in the socket, it should work. Double-check that you are connected to the headphones socket, I think there are a couple of line-out sockets that look exactly the same. Chances are you've got the right socket though, and the contact points inside are broken. This is pretty common in older keyboards, the headphone socket is often the first component to fail.

Hey Glen (hope I spelled it!). Of course I always consult a gearfacts video before many of my purchases now, but I hope I can get you to comment. Many of these PSR 540's go for even higher than the e-463 and ew410's even, but it seems they have all of the same glory that make the PSR 540 desirable. In your experience, are these even worth it compared to the the mentioned Yamaha e series today? Thank you so much!
@gearfacts4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kenzie, and thanks for watching Gearfacts. My answer is pretty simple - I think the PSR-E463 is superior. The advances that Yamaha have made a pretty clear, I think. I can still see the charm in the old PR-540 and similar boards, but I certainly would put the same price tag on it. If we did a comparison with the PSR-E3** series though ...well then it''s a much more complex question!
