it's pretty good. pretty simple, kind of noisy, has a lot of character. sounds good in a lo-fi way. i deffo wouldn't use it as my main synth, but it can do a lot of cool stuff and you can usually get them for under $100 so go for it

@xlogold There are lots of machines that respond in that way with the voltage change, some people add a dial to the keyboards so that it can be done from the front panel.

@guitaneman There is a lot more variation to the edited fm sounds when our mods are activated. This one was built a long time ago and we have a lot more experience now and it would be good to open one of them up again and see what we could do to improve things.

This would make a great video. Open this one up to show the mod and also how you might want to make newer improvements. I just picked up a 480 and a 580. I was wondering if there would be a way to get one keyboard to interact on both synths at the same time. Perhaps even with the midi in and out. I was sort of thinking to have the 4x operator generators working at the same time, 2 on each. Weather that means routing one keyboard through the other, running them in parallel or using midi i'm not sure.

of all these PSS Keyboard Circuit bend mods, i like this one the most! The sound really benefits from the light rough noisy extras. Do you maybe wrote down how ecactly you did your mods? Just in case to reproduce the Modifications again.

I added a 12 point bolt patch bay to my pss-680, but that's all I could do. went after the dum chip only, as there was no specs at the time for the synth. Is the 480 different in that there are bends on the synth? Sounds like your mods are effectng everything. I just picked up a 480...

Have you guys been working on these at all in the last year? I just installed a 16 bolt patch bay on the drum chip of this 480 (mentioned earlier) but I can't seem to find any mods for the actual fm tones. I would be happy to trade something for some advice on this. I really want specs for tone mods!

Thanks for sharing How can I get this to work on my pc? Does it have the ability ? I have a Yamaha interface midi usb. what is this circuit bending and how can I get started quicklu

You need to connect it to your pc via the midi interface that you have, you will need to check the manual for each machine, which will explain what to do. Circuit bending is a way of making a circuit create new sounds by jumping connections on the circuit board. Once you hear a change that you like, you then solder wires to the two points and add a switch or potentiometer to activate the bend. Buy a cheap childrens musical toy, open it up and experiment. After a while you will get to know what not to do, but make sure you document everything that you like before selling it. :)

i have one and to be honest there is nopoint in bending it as you can do everything on it without it being bent . the only diffrence is the drums but to be honest the drums sounds bad nothing would make them sound good. but to be without a pss480 is bad the little synth is awsome
