I recently bought this for my 5yo daughter. She loves it. I'm more than happy with the limited volume. My daughter has a habit of turning the volume up too high on other equipment so the limited volume on this keyboard is fine. When Daddy wants a go then my guitar amp makes an appearance, sweet 👌

There are many many good things about this keyboard. I've had mine a week and as a professional composer I've had alot of fun with it. The arpeggio and rhythm patters force you to think in new ways and you can often surprise yourself if you experiment. This is what this keyboard is about. Try out all the variations of sound and patterns and see what you come up with. For an ultra portable keyboard on the road you can't ask for much more, and as stated the keybed - my big complaint in the past - is excellent! There are faults it's true. Volume consistency is one. But still - at this price and size. It's a sure hit.

For this who have low sound tap the “shift” and go to the touch response on the keyboard by the 3rd “c” and tap it at same time. You will see a 1 2 or 3 and the word “off”. Tap off and you get full volume. It doesn’t have a great mid range sound without speakers but you get really good volume on the “off” position.

I can't wait for it to hit the US. Does it take control of audio out when plugged into an iPad? If it really has the Reface keybed, it's a bargain! I think that Yamaha ought to write an app for this type of keyboard that would take control of this and use the screen for more versatile control. Have it operate on its own, but the app and a portable tablet add features.

What if PSS-A50 had a built-in BossaNova rhythm ?! PSS-A50 has internal arpeggios (part of them are rhythms), while the PSS-F30 has a rhythm+bass accompaniment. PSS-F30 has a BossaNova rhythm but PSS-A50 unfortunately does not have it. I own both PSS-F30 and PSS-A50. I spent a long time to deconstruct the Flash ROM of both keyboards and retro-engineer them. I also modified them to bring back the stereo sound. Now, I'm happy to share I own the first PSS-A50 with a built-in BossaNova arpeggio. To do this, I converted the data (BossaNova section) from the F30 Rom to a format compatible with the A50, and I wrote these data in the A50 flash (I overwrite the last-in-the-list "African" arpeggio). Now, Arpeggio 138 plays BossaNova (only rhythm, no bass accompaniment) ! Have a look on my channel.

Wow, this thing is neat. I have a Casio SA-46 I usually keep with me when I travel, or really just go out, because it's small and I can keep it in a briefcase. The PSS-A 50 seems so much better at roughly the same size. Although it's twice the price as the SA-46, I think it's well worth it, but doesn't seem available in the USA, yet
@its_minhle4 жыл бұрын
how are you enjoying the casio? is it worth it? I'm considering buy the sa 76 (the more keys version)
@antonanker5834 жыл бұрын
Minh Le Well, I travel on business a lot and chose the SA-46 because I wanted something I could put in a laptop case and travel with me. The SA-76, I think is larger and won’t fit into a laptop case so that sort of defeats my purpose. Of course, if you want to use both hands, the 76 may be the way to go and I did notice that Jeremy has no problem playing the PSS-A-50 with both hands, of course he’s a professional and I’m not. The sound of the 46, and I assume the 76 as well, is horrible but I didn’t buy it for the sound. I bought it to practice passages that I’m having trouble with while traveling. It works great for that purpose. The PSS-A-50 sounds, at on my computers speakers, a whole lot better than either SA. BTW I play a piano accordion and those are very hard to travel with however, my exposure to the SA-46, and to Jeremys channel on arranger keyboards has sort of gotten me addicted to them to the point of considering purchasing a Korg Ek50, unless Yamaha updates their PSR E series. Note also the SA-46 has only 32 keys while the PSS -A-50 has 37. That’s huge especially if you want to play two handed. I’m going to replace my Casio with this Yahama for my traveling keyboard. I see the PSS-A-50 as a big win for a traveling keyboard. Hopefully it will be available in the USA soon.

For an affordable keyboard with Reface keys, great sounds and all the rest, it would be a great portable keyboard on the go to sit in the car and go anywhere. Someone gave me a USB A to USB C adapter, so I could use a Micro USB cable for this, or the Casio CT-S300 to hook up to my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with the FL Studio $15 Android DAW app or others. If I want to spend about $300, I can get the compact portable Roland Boss Micro BR multitrack recorder that can do many amazing things for the price or size, with or without a DAW.

While reading up on this before I purchased it as a "put on my desk to work with while reading theory" keyboard, I read it was derived from the ReFace series of keys (CS/DX/YC/CP), would you ever consider reviewing those?
@johnsonjacob35253 жыл бұрын
There are several reviews on the Reface series keyboards, as they have been out for a few years. Unless Jeremy gets a hold of demo units, he would have to purchase them, which may not be a bad thing, but they cost considerably more that most of the keyboards he reviews except for the more serious real digital pianos. They are also in a category of keyboards most of his viewers are not tinkering in, technically being mini, portable battery powered pro keyboards with speakers, the CP being classic electric pianos with effects, the YC having all the classic vintage organs drawbar and controls, the CS being like their early analog synths, and the DX a version of the famous DX7 digital synth. They are more gir professional and aspiring composers and home recording hobbyist who want the small size for space savings and on the go portability. With exceptions, Jeremy usually focuses on traditional keyboard playing with full sized keys...
