That's crazy how I bought one of these bikes off my friend for $2500 back in the late 90s with extended pegs, DG pipes and I didn't know what else was done to the bike.... My friend who sold it to me told me to be careful cause it was worked on and I said I'm good.... I almost died on the west side hwy (Manhattan)... My boys were on 1000s and 1100s... I smoked them but my engine seized.... Locked.... At 100 and something miles pr hr... Lucky I pressed the clutch in and it disengaged.... Next day I sold it for $200

Non standard colour would have to go, it's a nice start point for a full restoration though.

The RD 250 and 400 did come in black livery. When I was too young to own these bikes, I would collect official Yamaha leaflet posters and Black was definitely in the colour range. My favourite mean machine.

@@spritbong5285 Well, I'm old enough to have had a few and I've never seen a black RD400C, only blue and silver. Maybe it was a US version. I would still have the one above in blue...😉

recall the 77 RD' model 'D' colours were black, green, red, blue , they had got it right, the E and F models were not greatly changed,

The black ones were available in Canada. I owned one.
