I picked one up a couple months back. Sold my gorgeous and increasingly rare honeyburst Gibson B-25 for $2000 and then found an FSX5 for just $900 and am absolutely in love with my little Yammie. It sounds huge! I am a professional live sound engineer and this pickup system with the blended mic/piezo is the very best acoustic guitar amplification system I have ever heard, without a doubt. So natural. Very little need for fancy EQ maneuvering. Stunning for live use! Good idea with the feedback buster. I should pick one up. And, true; An auditorium Taylor is probably a close comparison - warm, woody sound. My Yammie also reminds me of some older Martin 000 models. The details are beautiful too. Don’t forget Yamaha’s proprietary A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) process, which gives your guitar a broken-in and aged tone. This is fascinating. A brand new guitar that feels like a 50 year old instrument with the tone and resonance of an old standby that you simply can’t put down. No, I don’t work for Yamaha. I just love this guitar as much as the gentleman in this video. ✌️ ❤

I bought the FGX5 this year while my brother bought a FSX5. The only acoustic guitar I have ever played better than this was a very very old Martin that a man in a blue grass band let me play on stage with him during my first time at a blue grass festival. I was so impressed with this acoustic I ended up buying another Yamaha guitar since I was in the market for an ES-335 Gibson but saw they had a version called a SA2200 that is also phenomenal. @davidmurphey95143 жыл бұрын
I actually made the video and chose not to do it. I don't like putting that kind of negativity out there. I had been looking for this guitar new for over a year. I checked all the suppliers fairly regular. Musicians Friend claimed to have 2. One was an open box for about $200.00 less. I have been burned on open box items before so I chose to go with the new. I asked for a discount. I was told ok. Then when the associate came back to the phone she claimed no discount was possible. I was assured the item was new. However, when it arrived it was definitely an open box guitar. It was not shipped in a packed guitar box. It came in the original Yamaha manufacturers box only. When I open the box there was only 4 sheets of corrugated paper in the box. The case shifted back and forth in the box. The case showed mild signs of an impact. When I plugged it in it didn't work. The guitar was not damaged and sounded absolutely awesome. When I called back I stated everything I told you. I told them I really want the guitar but I will have to take it to an authorized repair shop or pay to have it repaired. I was told 100.00 back to my card was the best they could do. I said in that case I will return it. He spoke to a supervisor and they did credit back 300.00 that was acceptable. I had the repairs done. This is not the first time I have had troubles with Musicians Friend but I know longer make major purchases from them. Given the fact they finally made it right I decided to only tell when asked.

Typically the actions on Martin's are to high. They're generally setup for bluegrass players from the factory. You may have tried this already. Take it to a luthier and have them adjust it. I adjusted the truss rod and shaved the saddle way down. The saddle on a Martin is just to tall from the factory. Still all in all acoustic guitars are harder to play. If you like acoustic guitar look for one with a short scale. Thanks for listening my friend

I got my FSX5 four months ago after searching for a lifelong guitar that will keep me happy for many years, and your video helped me deciding on my purchase. I had to buy it "blind" without trying it out since it's been backordered here in Sweden for a good while and no local shops had it. I am so satisfied with it, and after comparing it to a couple of high end Martin and Taylors i actually like this guitar better. What kind of strings do you use on your FSX5? I've tried a couple and came to the conclusion that Elixir 80/20s 11-52 makes the guitar sound the best. Do you have any favourites? Kind regards

Congratulations. I know what you mean. It took me almost 2 years before I found mine. I have a 97 Taylor 412ce and 2019 Martin OM28e. Nothing against either manufacturer but I prefer playing my Yamaha. I used to use Elixirs however I've switched to D'Addario XT Phosphor Bronze Extended Life+Natural Feel. They are coated as well. I finger pick a lot and the Elixirs would become frayed. These don't do that and they seem to last longer. I prefer the 12-53. Thanks alot for your question and for watching

They are just stunning to look at too. I'm a bit of a minimalist. They're just so tastefully appointed too. Ebony fretboard and bridge is what really shocked me. In fact that is what made me realize that this is one serious instrument despite the friendly pricing by comparison to most builders right now. The OG butter bean tuners are gorgeous as well. Alot of respect for Yamaha. And they're quality control is REALLY hard to beat. These guys are serious about their products. Can't speak highly enough about Yamaha.

Man I can’t decide between this model or the FGX5. I’ve been playing a concert sized guitar for a while now and I generally play more finger picking than flatpicking or strumming but I still kind of want some of the depth an FGX5 would offer. But obviously the FSX5 is more comfortable to play and to me, looks better. The FSX5 also has such a fantastic sounding mid range which is what’s drawing me towards it. Would you say that the FSX5 can offer the warmth, volume and depth of the FGX5?
@davidmurphey95142 жыл бұрын
That's a tough decision. I can't say about the FGSX5. I have a 97 Taylor 412ce that is a concert body also. Same wood, same construction. However the FSX5 is louder and richer. The FSX5 isn't booming like most dreadnoughts or Jumbos. It is deep. The closest cousin would be a D18. I picked the FSX5 over it because when finger picked the bottom was good but the loss of midrange was significant. Best advice is do that comparison like I did. Or there may be some Fgsx5 owners in chat rooms. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. I do appreciate your question and thanks for watching.

If you were going to pick between this and the FG5 (assuming they both had electronics, just talking about the body shape and sound) which would you go with? I’m torn between the two and want to make sure the FS has enough low end to compete
@davidmurphey9514 Жыл бұрын
I always swing more toward my Fs than the Fg. My Fg doesn't have the electronics. However I have played an Fg with and without the Atmosfeel electronics. Acoustically the FS is balanced all across the strings. The same when plugged in. It's more comfortable to play and feedback is easy to control. The Fg5 is typical of any Jumbo or dreadnought. The bottom booms initially then seems to fall off. Depending on how hard you play. The Fg does have a slightly bigger sound but over all I prefer the tone and balance of the FS. Put on some headphones and listen for yourself through several videos. Both guitars are really great. Just get a good setup after you pick. I hope this is some help to you

I think he was assuming it was one of the more common mid-range models. If you get a chance, see if you can check out the Alvarez MD60 or MD70 series guitars. All solid woods, scalloped bracing, hand-selected quartersawn tops. Sound and play killer, though I'm not overly impressed with tuners. Still, great bang-for-the-buck all solidwood guitars. Nice review. I'll keep an eye on your channel in the future.

@davidmurphey95143 жыл бұрын
I'll have to research that myself and get back to you. Thanks for watching
@davidmurphey95143 жыл бұрын
The differences between the 2 guitars are to numerous for a text. I have never played the AC5. Given my Martin Om 28e is to similar to that guitar I probably won't be in the market for one anytime soon. However, given that it is made in Japan and the price is comparable to the fsx5 I would definitely be looking for one. For starters the pups are completely different. It has a Sitka Spruce Top with Rosewood back and sides. If you prefer the tone of rosewood over mahogany I would seriously consider this in comparison to the Martin 000 or Om series. You can see all the specs at Yamaha or any retailer. There are many differences between the fsx and ac models. Good luck and I hope you find the guitar that suits your playing style the best. Have a great day.

I haven't actually played the Ac5. However, by the looks of everything I've seen and read you did really well. They definitely are high quality. I had been looking for this guitar since I learned about it for over a year also. I wanted to play one but it was nowhere to be found. Musicians friend claimed they had 2 returns. I bought it sight unseen. The shipping care was horrible. Not enough packaging. No original box. The case was mildly damaged. However they did give back 200. Dollars. The guitar was not damaged. However, I won't buy another guitar from them. To many bad experiences. This time it was worth it. I've never had a guitar sound like this. I also own a Martin OM28e. Hands down. This guitar sounds better. Go figure. I think Yamaha is doing something other manufacturers need learn from.

I have both. You can’t go wrong with either! They do sound completely different so I’d pick up the fsx5 as well if i were you. You won’t regret having both.
@himalayapatel20523 жыл бұрын
@Sharktooth they both sound completely. The ac5r is made of rosewood back and sides and fsx is mahagony back and sides. They both have exceptional build quality. They are both also different body styles. It’s like comparing apples to oranges. Which would i rather get? The fx5. Mainly because it’s more comfortable to play being a smaller guitar. But I’d suggest what you do is get the guitar which you don’t have one of yet. If you have a mahogany already get one with rosewood. If you have both then get the one which’s body style you don’t have.

@Sharktooth that being said. I have one kind of guitar of every body style and most wood types and both the fsx5 and ac5r are in my arsenal. So if you could get both, do it.
