Yamaha RX V475 + NS-777 5.0 pack

This is a video to show how my Yamaha NS-777 5.0 system is set up and works.
The room is about 20 sqm and there is no subwoofer.
Connection from the PC to the receiver is done by an Asus Xonar D2 on PCM Optical Fiber.

Hi Roman, Some floor standing speakers are just nod made to deliver top quality bass. If you have pushed up EQ and tone control at maximum, then unfortunately all you can do is buy a subwoofer. What made me buy the NS-777 is: 1. dual 20cm woofers 2. back bass reflex tube - very important if you put them against the wall 3. No room for a sub in the living room. There are decent subs out there, make an effort and purchase one. Vlad.

Tone control - bass is +6 db, treble is 0 db EQ is set to GEQ and 40Hz band is set to max on all 5 channels. This does mean that the sound will not be so loud, as you would reach the low amp peak sooner than any other band, but it's definitely compensating for the lack of a sub in my case, although I am probably going to buy one for the freq below 30Hz. I use 5 channel stereo enhancer for music, all the time. Sci-Fi or Surround Decode for movies. You should go for 2 channel Stereo for music.

Through PCM Optical Fibre, via Asus Xonar D2. HDMI IN is used in the Yahama for video, and I have selected HDMI1 input to take sound from AUX1, which is one of the Optical In connectors in the back. :)

Hey man, 1. You do need an amplifier, these are just speakers. The amplifier needs to be 6ohms and a minimum of 80w per channel. 2. They are rated at 100w, so the bass would be 100w. Please note that although they are powerful, as 100w is coming out of 4 speakers, you will feel they are deep, but not subwoofer deep, more like flat, absolutely accurate response. If you haven't had a somewhat professional sound system before, please note that in order to achieve sound quality you are looking at a pretty large investment. If you really don't care that much about the sound, for the money you spend on the NS-777 you could easily buy a decent sound system. Just don't get Logitech Z906, it's terrible!

Tipul de constructie al acestor boxe necesita o distanta de minim 40 cm de jur imprejur pentru pozitionare, acele distorsiuni apar si din cauza amplificarii, receiverul nu dezvolta suficienta putere ca sa le poti da tare, isi pierde din calitate dupa un prag. Intr-o incapere cat de cat izolata bine pe toate lateralele o sa vezi diferenta cu un amplif rx-a2010 care scoate sunet mult mai clar si mai puternic fata de seria V4xx. Posed aceste boxe in format 9.1 canale cu filtre modificate si interior capitonat, sunet cu mult schimbat.

Buenas, se que hace tiempo de esto pero iba bien ese amplificador con ese conjunto de altavoces? Resulta que tengo el sony dn1080 y tengo los nsf51 de frontales el nsc444 de central, dos subwoofer mivoc y dos traseros de 50 watts, estaba pensando en ponerle los ns 333 como traseros pero no se si se me va a quedar corto el amplificador.

Buenas, he cambiado la tele 3 veces desde entonces pero tengo el mismo amplificador. Es un muy buen partido para los altavoces y no he tenido ningún problema con él desde 2013.

Hello Vlad, great video! We have the same exact speaker setup. These yamahas tend to be power hungry speakers, so I've added an external amplifier to go with my yamaha receiver. If you ever have a chance to upgrade, check out an emotiva xpa amp, they are Wonderful amps to power these monsters!

Vlad Morosanu I am using the XPA5 on them bi-amped. The speakers does produce more sound because of this monster amp, but it's the clarity aspect that gets me everytime. I strongly recommend them if you have some cash and make sure your receiver has pre outs. I'm just glad to see someone else enjoying these under rated speakers. They ALWAYS get looked over as a beginner audiophile set up, which is a good and bad thing.

It's really about what everyone believes they really are. With audio equipment, you the more you spend, the less the actual upgrade really is. I do agree that the sound would be better with preamps, and it's a worthy investment, but I can really confirm that the sound is excellent even without any additional equipment. :)

Mykal Fury are you talking about the receiver? That was around 450 euros back in 2014. I've tried the YPAO microphone for calibration but the result was crap. I've only used my ears to calibrate, and the result is better, I think. :)

I manually calibrate & tone match my setup too. Never even tried the YPAO mic that came with the Yamaha AV. I Love Yamaha's Burr-Brown DAC's & their Dolby Decoders. The Yamaha AV's surround decoding & steering logic is as impressive as commercial chips I've heard. So, it is up to the owner-operator to calibrate & measure speaker placements to achieve that 3D sonic sound stage we all thirst for when buying a home theater setup. As for the speakers: Yes I wasn't sure how expensive they wer there? In America, the Yamaha Towers are cost prohibitive aka too expensive! Competitive speaker co.'s make better speakers for the same price or cheaper. ELAC B5 Debut for example. Thx for answering my questions.

Hi, I've heard the ELAC's and they are a bit better on the high range but it really depends on the ears. I see the Yamaha towers go for 661 dollars on amazon (for the whole pack of 5.1) This is a very good price and definitely worth it. :) I agree Yamaha speakers and not the best for the money. If I could go back in time I would probably buy Wharfdale Diamond. The only reason I bought the 777s was because they offer a lot of bass and thought I wouldn't have to buy a subwoofer but I ended up buying one almost immediately after. :) All the best. :) Vlad.

Salut, Mai folosesc NS-333 si NS-C444, tot de la Yamaha. RX-V375 o sa mearga excelent cu NS-777, doar ca nu o sa le impinga chiar la maxim. As sugera sa investesti si in surround pack, adica NS-C444 si NS-333, e o diferenta enorma, si investitia nu e chiar foarte mare. Daca iti iei doar NS-777 si astepti sa zgudui casa cu ele, s-ar putea sa ramai semi dezamagit, in functie de cat de mare e camera si cum le vei amplasa. In orice caz, sunt, dupa parerea mea, cele mai bune boxe in gama asta de pret, pentru ca sunt mult mai mari (20cm pe woofer), nu au driver pasiv - mai mult bass, si au portul de bass reflex la spate, asta ofera o acustica buna in camere mici si mijlocii. O zi faina. :)

Should be the same, maybe ever so slightly louder. They both pack the same technology and DAC's, main difference is 2 extra channels on the 575. :)

Salut Claudiu, Sunetul nu este afectat absolut deloc pentru ca sunt pozitionate langa perete, ba chiar mai mult, bass-ul se face simtit la ele ceva mai tare pentru ca are portul in spate si se respinge putin de perete, efect apropiat de ce se intampla daca pui un subwoofer intr-un colt. Stiu ca audiofilii spun ca nu e cea mai indicata solutie, dar eu nu am simtit nicio diferenta cand le-am adus mai in fata cu jumatate de metru. La receiver nu am absolut nimic de obiectat, este exceptional din toate punctele de vedere. Aplicatia din smartphone este foarte utila, poti sa controlezi tot ce vrei, inclusiv on/off, sa pui muzica de pe USB si chiar sa vezi pe ecranul telefonului lista intreaga de melodii, sa faci streaming la muzica din telefonul tau, etc. Exista si Pandora, radio digital, pe care il folosesc foarte des. Calitatea este exceptionala. RX-V475 este un amplificator foarte bun, niciodata nu a crapat/s-a blocat, functioneaza la temperaturi scazute, puterea este arhisuficient pentru un apartament. S-ar putea sa doresti sa-ti iei si un subwoofer ulterior. Bass-ul produs de boxe este absolut OK, dar relativ FLAT, adica primesti exact ceea ce ai in sursa audio. Ca si diferenta, pot sa spun ca dintre toate boxele pe care le-am auzit, si am auzit cateva, nu exista altele care sa aiba calitatea asta, in price range-ul asta si chiar si mai sus cu cateva sute de euro. Daca te mai pot ajuta cu alte detalii, cu cea mai mare placere. Vlad.

Am citit o gramada de pareri legata de pozitionare si ma gandesc ca sunt multi "audiofili" care ceva mai putin de perfectiune nu accepta insa eu sunt multumit si cu sunet "mediu/ok", care sa placa urechii mele, care sa nu doara/deranjeze dupa 2 ore de ascultat. Nu doresc sa asculte vecinii sau fetitele de pe trotuar, prefer un sunet curat, clar, fara distorsiuni si fara un bass prelungit care sa-mi acopere restul frecventelor. Probabil ca nu am ureche sa realizez calitatea acestor boxe insa imi si plac mult cum arata. Si eu le voi pozitiona tot langa perete din cauza lipsei spatiului si una va fi chiar in colt :) ... asta daca raman la NS-777 Despre receiver am citit doar prin specificatii, am vazut ca lista este lunga si abia astept sa-l butonez, chiar si remote :). Ca si alternativa as avea RX-S600, cica o varianta 2013 a modelului V475 dar slim, care pe mine m-ar ajuta. Nu prea doresc sa cumpar si woofer si floorstand-uri, fie FS-uri, fie woofer + 4 sateliti NS-333 + central. Dupa cum ziceam, nu doresc un bass care sa-l simt mai mult decat il aud. Tu ce zici? Itit multumesc pentru timpul acordat!

NS-777 ofera un sunet mult mai complet si din cauza ca au difuzoare de 20cm, fata de orice altceva la banii astia, in general cu 16.5cm. Avantajul mai e si la capitolul woofere, ca are 2 active, unde alte companii ofera de obicei 1 activ si 1 pasiv. Pozitionarea conteaza in camere mari, in special unde exista loc sa se miste undele. Efectul ala nasol il simti atunci cand se face un fel de ecou, pentru ca sunetul vine la urechea ta din perete in loc sa vina din difuzoare. La camere mici, nu ai cum sa simti diferenta. Eu sunt extraordinar de exigent, si daca era o diferenta, chiar si minuscula, nu le mai lasam acolo, dar nu am gasit niciuna. :) Daca nu doresti bass subsonic, vrei un sunet clar si placut atunci boxele astea te vor uimi cu siguranta. La muzica clasica, jazz, chillout, efectiv iti ridica parul din cap la cat de definit este sunetul. Totusi, tin sa mentionez ca un subwoofer nu acopera deloc restul frecventelor, nu e ca la Logitech Z5500 unde urla, vibreaza tot si in rest pauza, la HiFi el completeaza frumos, placut, plaja de jos, dar depinde de gusturi si necesitati, evident. In legatura cu RX-S600, este de o putere mai mica decat V475, si nu vei avea un volum la fel de ridicat. Conteaza cat de tare vrei sa le dai, chiar si cu volumul scazut, nu vei avea nicio problema daca le conectezi la NS-777 si restul surroundului. Decizia iti apartine, daca vrei sa sacrifici puterea pentru dimensiune. Ca si experienta, pot sa-ti spun ca boxele sunt ca si bicicletele. La unele platesti firma, la altele platesti finisajul (cum platesti greutatea la biciclete), iar dupa un prag, pretul creste considerabil pe masura ce obtii un mic beneficiu la calitatea sunetului. Ca raport, calitate/pret, parerea mea este ca nu exista altceva mai bun in segmentul asta de pret. :)

Yes, all my speakers are Yamaha. :) Your AV only holds 80w per channel, so it's not gonna take the **** out of the speakers, and your subwoofers are 450w each. I now have a Yamaha NS-SW700 which I got for 450E, it's got 300w and I can only keep it at 35% or the bass or it would be too overwhelming, considering my amp gives 135w per channel in theory. My suggestion is, invest in a 250-300w subwoofer and buy a nice present for your girlfriend with the extra $$ :P. If you haven't had a professional sub before, don't go for extra power for no reason, as a proper sub will shake the house subsonic even at 25w, so you won't feel the need to turn it up as much. If you, however, want to put the speakers in a large room, saying 40sqm, then you will need the subwoofer power but consider investing in a more powerful amp, after you see how they go with the speakers, of course. :) Regardless of the above, I would definitely recommend the NS-777 pack to anyone, they are absolutely brilliant, and the construction is amazing for the price. Hi, no problem, a pleasure to help. Just bear in mind, I'm not saying don't buy a sub, but not to spend money and something you may not actually need. The NS-777 are one of the largest floor standing speakers available. Their woofers are 20 cm, meaning you will get bass from them, and plenty of it. My video shows this quite clearly. They bottom down at 30Hz - the limit of audible frequency. They are, however, flat, meaning what is in the audio file being played is reproduced with exact fidelity. If you hear 40hz, they will shake your house, for example, but with the rest of the range, they provide just decent bass. A subwoofer brings joy towards the lower 30hz frequencies, subsonic they say, that you will not hear but feel. This is nothing like a sound system (for example Z-5500 is incapable of even 40hz). The sub frequencies make the overall experience a lot richer, as you will feel the bass and the subsonic will complement you with a delayed boom that will make you believe the bass is deep and low. If you're on a budget, buy the NS-777 and surround pack, see how that goes, then look for a subwoofer between 250-300w, that will go as low as possible (20hz or lower ideally), and have the largest speaker possible (as it will produce deeper bass). The best you can afford. There are very good deals on subs, don't be tempted by the quality related to price as it's not the case sometimes. I've bought ths NS-SW700, considering the specs, a lot cheaper than other products, because Yahama is a worldwide distributor so it was easy to source in Romania without high taxes and because they don't make them anymore. Reviews on the internet can be full of crap, as most of the times people buy 1 sub and review it being the best. The truth is, if you take specs into consideration, all professional subs are incredible, starting with midrange prices. I really struggled to find suitable products, so if you or anyone else have any questions, I will be more than happy to share anything I've learned so far, so that maybe people will find information easily. +sika mariusika Salut, nu sunt sigur cum l-ai conectat deja, insa iti trebuie un cablu de subwoofer (RCA to RCA). Un capat intra in portul de subwoofer pre-out din spatele amplificatorului si celalalt capat in INPUT la subwoofer. Ca sa il activezi, trebuie sa intri in SETUP (telecomanda) -> Speaker -> Configuration -> Subwoofer - si acolo setarea trebuie sa fie USE. Daca e setat pe NONE, efectele LFE (low frequency effect) se duc pe cele 2 canale din fata si portul de pre-out este dezactivat.

Yes, the RX-V373 is the older brother of the V475, but 90% the same. You will have no issue running these speakers with that amplifier. :)

+Alex Cristi Salut, cred ca este o combinatie de factori. Magnat Supreme nu au la fel de mult bass ca NS-777. Astea au si difuzoarele mai mari (20 cm vs 16.5). La momentul respectiv intr-adevar nu aveam subwoofer insa ulterior mi-am luat SW700. Egalizatorul grafic era setat ca sa mareasca bass-ul. Din constructie, boxele de tipul asta nu sunt facute sa scoata un volum foarte mare de bass. Daca boxa este oarecum de calitate (cum sunt cele din video) poti scoate bass frumos doar din egalizatorul amplificatorului. In orice caz, se aud decent, insa am simtit in foarte scurt timp nevoia sa pun si un subwoofer. :) Daca mai ai intrebari, raspund cu mare drag. Vlad.

Salut, folosesc intrare optica nu RCA. Poti seta sistemul sa ia sunet de pe o intrare si imagine de pe HDMI, de exemplu. Iar apoi intrarea respectiva se poate mapa pe unul din butoanele albe si redenumi in ce vrei tu. Eu am setat BD-DVD sa scrie "PC". Sa ia sunetul din AV1 si imaginea din HDMI2. Cauta in setari ca poti redenumi fiecare intrare cum iti doresti. La egalizator, pe setup-ul din clip, prima linie de bass era ridicata aproape de maxim. Asta mai taie din volum evident dar ridica mult bass-ul. La tone control nu umblu nici eu. Am ridicat bass-ul la boxele care pot face o diferenta. Ulterior am luat un subwoofer separat pentru ca nu ma multumea cantitatea de bass. Nu stiu daca ai tot NS-777, eu am auzit si alte boxe si mi se par ca astea chiar au ceva bass fata de altele.

Звук очень очень хорошо, хотя я недавно добавили сабвуфер, а также, NS-SW700. Они действительно предоставляют очень хороший бас, так как они имеют двойные 20cm низкочастотные динамики на каждого динамика. :)

Vlad Morosanu thanks for the reply, found them in my country for a bit less than 1000E. Now I need a subwoofer - SVS SB-2000 caught my eye. It's getting positive attention in AVForums

I think 500W is a bit overkill for a sub considering the rest of the setup. 300W is more than enough to blow your head off. :) I've got the NS-SW700, looks the same as the whole system and the sound quality is amazing.

I'm definitely not planning to destroy my apartment, just wanted to get the best bass for music at very low levels of listening. It seems Yamaha do an excellent job with their audio equipment, I will give that SVS monster a shot though :)

Found the Yamaha sub discounted for 380E, so maybe I'll reconsider.. Btw, noticed there is an "Enhanced" mode on the receiver and with some music it sounds great, whilst with heavy bass tracks I think it's a bit on the muddy side.

Salut am de gand sa imi procur ceva hi-fi..si ma gandeam la un denon avr x1100w si 2 boxe pode Magnat Monitor Supreme 802.....il voi folosi la muzica 35 % ----50 % playstatyon 4 si fime mai slabutz.....crezi ca ar fi problema la o cutie( sufragerie de 16,5 mp ca stau la bloc) cu parchet pe jos,,,,rezonanta.....vreau calitate.... vreau beat-uri bune nu tobe proastee

Salut, depinde la ce nivel vorbesti de rezonanta. Daca ceri o parere de audiofil get-beget, ti-ar spune ca trebuie sa ai stalpi de difuzie si cabluri suspendate pe conuri de burete, boxele sa fie la o anumita distanta de perete si pozitionate exact intr-un anumit fel. In realitate, nu cred ca vei avea probleme mari cu rezonanta. Nu ai niciun covor in mijlocul sufrageriei? E gol pe jos? :) Eu as zice sa investesti mai mult in boxe. Amplificatorul este ok, nu stiu la ce pret il gasesti tu, Exista RX-V477 care costa 1300 RON si e la fel de bun. La boxe, poti sa mergi pe ceva care nu e atat de puternic, dar daca nu ai subwoofer, sa aiba o plaja joasa de macar 30hz.

Multumesc de sfat…dar Yamaha asta …este 5.1( 7.2 denon) wi-fi nu!!..bluetooth -trebuie sal cumperi ca si accesoriu…….ma rog dupa parerea mea 400 ron diferenta face banuti…cum ziceam parerea mea….Am o carpetutza pe jos…..dar ca si boxe ce mi-ai recomanda??? Nu vreau 5.1 7.1-2…..momentan vreau 2 boxe de pardoseala….dar cumpar reciver 7.2 ptr viitor…sincer acuma sunt si cu bugetul maxim maxim 3000 lei……dar ma gandesc ca am sa ma mut undeva la casa…spatiu mai mare …o sa am loc de 5.1 in camera si 2 boxe de exterior terasa plus foiar..ca sincer un astfel de aparat il cumperi ptr 5-7 anisori.. vreau ceva de ca si calitate sunet de la 1-10…cam de 7 spre 7.5

Yes, this was changed a long long time ago. :) Center now below a 65 inch oled, speakers no longer near the wall, different furniture, added subwoofer, etc. :)
