@@guitar-academy They did the same thing with the "silent sax" (YDS-150). First, it never existed. Then, some promo - but no product to buy (for months). Still not generally available in the USA - I somehow found one on Amazon. They know what they're doing for marketing - and instrument making. My soprano sax is a 1987 Yamaha. As to the silent guitars, it looks like 2002 for the first gen, with the latest at 2015. So, maybe not for a while!

I was recently "bequeathed" a number of guitars and peddles by an acquaintance who left the state. (Hawaii) One of the guitars was a perfectly preserved Yamaha SLG200S in it's original case. I was really quite amazed by it's multitude of functions and particularly by it's very unique sound quality. No less am I impressed by this video and your very thorough and clear review of this guitar. Mahalo Nui Nui !! (Hawaiian for BIG BIG Thanks!!)

Audio engineer tip for you - when running audio in to another device, e.g. a desk… pop the input device to max level / output and alter the recording / receiving device as you wish to kill the hiss. This means the pre-amps in your desk won’t need to up the signal received. Loved the video and liked it, thanks

Thanks, I hope yamaha updates the guitar models mic and pickup, DSP, and effects including delay. Technology has gotten so much better with the fender acoustisonic and others and smartphones being more powerful than laptops. Now is the time for a major upgrade, including the latest bluetooth codecs, and built in speaker system updated electronics, hiss reduction, and computer models for different guitars etc. Way more presets and customizations are possible, even with sharing users settings. Along with built in drums and backing tracks for practice, higher quality headphone dac and amp, and 2 of them.

It’SO important to have purchased a guitar that you’re going to review yourself. I was searching for travel guitars and every single channel, the person doing the review said it was given to them to review and/or also that guitar company was their sponsor… they didn’t have a single word of criticism which I find suspicious. I think had they spent their own money and they weren’t swayed by who was actually sponsoring the video that their review would likely have been different.

No, I never had a buzz on any of the string on either the N or the S version. If anything more people complain that the action is too high. I bet everyone has a different answer for this question because it depends on your taste and requirements. I always go through stereo effects so I use a stereo hifi/power amp. 😊😊

Is it easy to take off the neck of the guitar for travel?
@guitar-academy2 жыл бұрын
not a guitar like this one, but for an electric guitar yes it is. If you want to travel a lot you can fit threaded inserts into the heal of the neck so that the thread in the doesn't get ruined. 😃

Hi man! Thank you very much fir the review. The video itself is also very good quality, and I'm really considering this guitar now. I also have a question regarding the video itself.) What gear do you use? I mean camera, lens and lights like here - 6:24. Thanks!
@guitar-academy3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much . . the camera is a canon 90d with a stock 18-135 lens, and I just use cheap eBay LED panel lights. At 6:24 I backlit the guitar and under exposed it by 2 stops . . I hope this helps. 😊

Sounds really lovely, and thank you for such a detailed (and calm...) overview of this instrument. I have one question just out of curiosity; do you think one of these guitars would be a reasonable choice for someone looking to pick up guitar playing in general? Especially if they aren't sure whether they really want to play acoustic or electric.
@guitar-academy3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much 😃 That's a good question . . Honestly, all I can do is give you things to consider, the decision will be very personal to yourself and depend on you budget, music tastes and determination to learn guitar. If you have the money, then this is a good middle ground as it has a similar feel to an electric guitar. However, normally I would suggest getting a cheaper guitar to start with, then you can buy an electric and an acoustic. I've been teaching for over 30 years and it's amazing how many times I've taught people who like to listen to one style of music but prefer to play another . . 🤔
@Mythricia19883 жыл бұрын
@@guitar-academy That is a good point! I haven't played an instrument for almost 20 years, and never a guitar, but lately feel inspired to tinker. Just for my own enjoyment. Initially I was convinced I wanted to get an electric, but I've been a bit fascinated by other alternatives as I was researching. But you are quite right I suppose; I could probably get two decent instruments for the price of one of these, if I wasn't happy with my first choice! Thank you.

@@Mythricia1988 I really hope you have a great time with any guitar. I think it's a great way to relax and they recon if you learn an instrument it can help prevent Alzheimer's later in life . . 😃

Nice review. Can you hear through the headphones if you are plugged into the amp as well? I am struggling with monitors and this seems like an easy solution. I get that I won't get a mix (vocals, bass other), but at least my guitar would be in my ear.

Would really appreciate it if I could have some questions answered. 1. Is it neck heavy, i.e. does it neck dive? 2. Where is it made? 3. Does it take acoustic guitar strings or electric guitar strings? Thanks in advance.

yes it does neck dive slightly. China. Acoustic . .

You show plugging this into the line-in on the mixer. The guitar is almost certainly a Hi-Z instrument level output. That may have contributed to the hiss and possibly made the sound quality suffer, as the mixer would be expecting a much higher signal level. I would be curious if there is a difference if plugged into an instrument input or through a DI box.
@guitar-academy4 жыл бұрын
It is a standard line out on the guitar 1k ohm impedance and the input on the desk is switchable. It sound a lot worse through Hi-Z because of the impedance mismatch, but good thought . . 🙂

With the nylon string the volume level changes when you're using the effects. Does the same happen to the steel strings?
@guitar-academy4 жыл бұрын
That is strange 🤔 Not on this one . . the volume stays very stable . . 🙂
@crazywisdom23 жыл бұрын
Clearly there is alot that goes into music and playing styles. Which did you like more; the steel or nylon ?
@guitar-academy3 жыл бұрын
After playing both guitars for a while I definitely prefer the nylon strung version. I can't get used to the sound the steel strum one produces. 😊😊

Is a great guitar. I removed the molded urea saddle and replaced with a bone saddle and that helped balance out the bass and all strings with improved clarity.

I've already replaced the strings but I will play with it a bit first before changing anything else so I can better judge the standard guitar. 🙂 But it's nice to know the bone saddle is an improvement in advance. 🙂
