Instead of a spacer on the rear foot peg hangers, why not just extend that bracket and drill another hole to use 2 bolts instead of just one. On the upper crash bar could you somehow tie it into the lower cross support to eliminate having a tab on the lower. This way if someone chooses not to go with the upper, there is no tab looking out of place. But looks really nice and compact so far. Nice job.
@utuberagain185 жыл бұрын
Looks very good. (1) What’s the width of the pannier racks from the outside surface of one to the outside of the other one? (2) I hope you’ll design a sturdy rear rack that’ll work well with your pannier racks. Include multiple tiedown points compatible with Rox Straps. (3) How about making a good, sturdy bash/skid plate? The double frame downtubes should be excellent attachment points so no loads would be transferred into the engine cases. It’d be ideal if the engine oil and filter could be changed without removing the skid plate and/or your lower and upper crash bars. (4) Add an extension piece to the rear of your new skid plate and make it long enough to protect the bottom of the rear suspension’s lower linkage. It’d probably be best to make it from something like nylon-filled plastic or Kydex, etc. rather than aluminum. (5) How about making add-on protective plates that each cover the clutch and stator covers? Have them shaped/formed to match each cover properly and probably adhere them with strong, double-sided 3M adhesive tape designed for constant outdoor usage. (6) As others have written, include attachment points for additional lighting at the low or mid height position on the front of the engine guards. Keep up the great work!

I think you should think about making a leg off the lower guard to the frame above the right footpeg or a seperate guard entirely to protect the plastic water pump and hoses behind rear brake lever, I have bent MANY in my riding over the years and they usually bend UP and INWARD so I suspect that will be a recurring problem in the future... just a thought, other than that it looks awesome!!!

Front crash bars look awesome, curved bars = strength. For the rear pannier rack, the 3rd mounting on the foot peg support should be extended to the front bolt mount. Avoids then needing a spacer and will also add further strength - not for luggage, but in event of an off.... Otherwise great work.

Yes, only on the right side. Most of our customers with the heavy duty Yamaha skid plate just end up cutting a tiny chunk of the skid plate to clear the tubing. It’s not our recommendation but their choice.

Looks really promising Lorry. Some things to think about as improvements / additions. Color: I think the same colour as the matt frame colour would be more invisible than the bright red you currently have. Addition of mounting plates on the front to allow rotopax fuel /water cells. Addition of webbing eyelets to allow small soft dump sacks / panniers to be mounted up front. Smaller contoured rear fender protection to protect the rear fenders from Giant Loop type throw over saddlebags. Any chance of you guys producing an additional fuel cell to mount in the cavity area underneath seat as 16 ltrs is ridiculous.

The vertical tubing might look better with a clamp as well to attach to lower set. Also the center brace under the dash would be a good place to mount light pods or a small flood light bar. A little late to the discussion but I'm looking at your products for my newly acquired T7. Awesome stuff you have there. Just an observation. On the pannier rack rear cross brace, why didn't you route it lower and rearward to pick up the license plate? Would have given some reinforcement to the taillight assembly. Also are these universal to allow mounting of SW motech Trax panniers. Reason I ask is I have a set sitting in the garage unused from my wife's old F650GS that I'd like to use on my T7. Thanks!

Ok so it’s a prototype and it’s nice but there is one thing I would like to point out, the clutch and stator need protection too. I saw someone with engine protection on an Africa Twin cracking the clutch cover falling on a stone doing some off-road.
@jonelliott96275 жыл бұрын
Definitely been there and done that sir. But I think crashbars are for more blunt impact over a large area and not so much designed to protect from sharp rocks or branches damaging cables and clutch covers. But a heavy wraparound skid plate could be designed to provide some protection for engine cases.
@melshawa5 жыл бұрын
Jon Elliott fair enough, I’m from Italy but the way and I own a model that doesn’t exist (for now) in the States a Yamaha Tracer 700 that is based on the MT-07 (ex FZ-07 till 2017) and I like the stuff that you guys make but I saw that you only make stuff for the Super Ten and the Ten 700.

The Africa Twin engine is really wide and especially the stator side is really exposed. The Tenere 700 engine is not exactly like that. When the bike is laid down on the left side (shown in the video) there's about 3-4"/9-10cm between the ground and the stator cover. We'll experiment with a skid plate design to provide as much protection for the engine as possible.

Keyboard and chair expert here!;)) I had the 660 Tenere for 27 000 miles, and having the 1200 Super Tenere /8800 miles/. (Edit: nearly forgot: The '08 660 Tenere's passenger foot peg nearly shattered my heel when I've went down with it in a silly encounter with a car in a car park, it was a less than 5mph incident, and it was just the bike weight's doing the damage;)), so might worth taking a look at the ground clearance from that angle.) I am no expert on off-road use / never had the money to pay for my mistakes /, but this set of bars look okay for the road but not for the off-road drops as the engine is vulnerable considering there are many-many bumpy things that can take a poke at the engine when dropped, thus I think for a cage like extension towards the engine would do great in an off-road environment. Considering that this bike is off-road focused, that might would be a good idea to develop too. Feel free to take a look at what I mean by taking a look at my Super10, clicking on my name. Haha, okay, reviewing the footage that I took of my bike, is well... the protection around the engine is not as good as I've remembered / didn't pay much attention to it before;)) / and a better protection on the right hand side might be ergonomically not possible, ie. it'd be in the way of the leg;))) So this turned out to be a "half-arsed" suggestion and at least not a full arsed one;)))) Keep up the good work, guys!

I don't see why it wouldn't. High fender conversions work with our KTM 1090/1190/1290 and Africa Twin 1000 upper crash bars. You'll just need to find the appropriate spacer length for the fender to clear our upper bars' bracket.

Is it possible to get an updated video of these pannier racks with the rotopax installed? I've seen where the base rack had to have the mount pushed all the way back to clear so it looks like the location of the x frame would cause interference with the body of the bike
@Outbackmotortek4 жыл бұрын

About the pannier racks, I think it's a good idea leaving some space to put a rotopax in the empty left space. But I need to know what's is the measurement between both racks (outer side). I mean, in Spain there's a limit of 1 meter speaking of total width of the bike luggage, so i need to know that for being sure which panniers would fit better not exceeding that width.

Hi love the engine crash bars but have a question re panniers. When you get the prototype early did you question what was Yamaha thinking re the exhaust height? If the muffler was 15cm lower the whole rack would be greatly slimmer. I have a road bike with a max pannier width less than 75cm due to the frame being aligned with the rear mud guard. I also have trail bikes with high exhausts but do not understand why adventure bikes need the exhaust so high. Maybe it is so journalists can do river crossings. I would love to hear your thoughts on this as it must be frustrating to widen a slim bike. Regards Garry

Do these rear panier racks work with the OEM Yamaha rear tail carrier rack? Do these front upper crash bars work with Yamaha OEM fog lights? Also I noticed on another video you guys did you mounted a 1 gallon rotopax can to the inside of the left rear panier rack. However, you only showed it mounted vertically. Is it possible to mount the rotopax can 90° clockwise so the pouring spout is facing backwards and up at an angle? If all this is possible I will be buying both front and rear products from you!
@lorrygombos32654 жыл бұрын
Hi Erik, Thanks for asking. #1 - no, it's not compatible. We make our own rear rack which is 100% compatible with our pannier racks. It's also lighter than the OEM racks. #2 - The Yamaha OEM lights can be re-installed by using universal light brackets which clamp on tubing. #3 - The only way to mount a 1 gallon Rotopax canister is the way we demonstrate in the video. Unfortunately the space is very tight between the plastic panel and the pannier racks. There's a customer of ours who installed the Rotopax canister backwards with the spacing facing to the back of the bike but it can make the canister come in contact with the plastic panel. See it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ6xpamLebimbdU

I was wondering if only lower bars would avoid fairing damage falling on a flat surface. I know it's diferent when off roading and there're rocks and stuff, but I'm not sure how lower bars would work on pavement or other flat surface... And I was also wondering if your planing something like a rear carrier (lighter than Yamaha's). Good work, man!

Thanks for the comment. Bike's laid down at 16:37. The upper bar does not even come in contact with the ground. With a quality set of aftermarket hand guards, the lower bars will provide good protection on flat surface. Eventually we'd like to design a rear rack. There's demand for it.

Awesome Job, looks way better than the Stock ones! And even more practical too. Appears to be inspired by the stock KTM Crashbars, somehow.,-) From an Engineering Standpoint i particularly like the approximation to "Trianglular shear bonds" in x and y axis. considering this, how about the thrust connection up front with two screws on each side? so more of the flex goes side to side and less into torsion through the head tube? though.. you never really how and what on you fall. Anyway… I'd buy these! Evene just the lower frame is really nice! designwise (yes the cam distorted the lines, that's what they do.-)) it's brilliant. Love the Brains you Guys put in there! Other than that. i agree to the foresaid, Protection for the Pumpcover (cruuuucial!) and some extensions (not too close) for the Brake and shift levers… always tricky… and yes the XTZ 700 comes stock with foldable brake lever, but we all know that these looong levers tend to bend supereasy. Don’t cover up the decals on the side panels. Nothing worse. May be worth relocating the top bars

We don't cover it. It's fully visible.

The product is well thought out and looks good, but the welding is poorly done, it has many spaces without welding and water and mud can enter there.

You skipped some parts of the video for sure, but you took your time to comment 🙄 Watch it again from 0:58.

I think the bar looks too small. Maybe a little bit bigger bar.

Royal Mechanics perhaps don’t skip the intro of the video and you’ll learn why.. as clearly stated in the opening minute: it’s a prototype version for design demonstration purposes!

Have to say, I'm a little put off by the look of the welds. Hope that this one is more of a prototype, otherwise I would have to pass on this product.

Watch the video carefully. You skipped some important details. It’s explained clearly at 1:02 that it’s a prototype assembled with spot welds just to give our viewers an idea what it would look like on the T7. You can’t think for one second that we’d ever release a spot welded product which is supposed to act as an armour for a 200+kg motorcycle..
