Baxter and Jonathan talk about how expansive and unique the Yamaha company is with a demo of a Revstar at the end of the video! From dirt-bikes to engines recording to guitars. This company has the capital to own the guitar market. The last couple years major strives into the electric community as well as a long standing tradition of great acoustic guitars at a great price point. Great quality all around!

About 15years ago I was at the big box "center" shopping for my first Taylor. I had a budget of about $1500 which could get you up into the 3 series iirc. I played everything I could get my hands on. They were nice but the ones I played were not great. Then I went put into the main acoustic room and just grabbed a yamaha apx900 to noodle on as I contemplated whether I should drop the money now for a Taylor or wait until I come across a "special" one. I ended up leaving with the yamaha for $600.

I think the really impressive thing about Yamaha currently is quality vs. price. I bought their new Revstar Standard when it was released earlier this year and was blown away by just how well made it is for the price. It reminds me of my old Gibson "The Paul" and how it felt back in 1978 when I bought it - i.e. yep, VERY brand new (relicing and ready-played-in were unheard of back then - in fact new guitars were preferable), but totally solid and great build quality. 40+ years later that old budget-price Gibson has gently aged into one of the best guitars I have, and I'd never part with it willingly. I've since bought new guitars that play as well and feel as familiar straight from their case (the Tone Fox Elcaster for starters) - but I love my old Gibson because it's MY playing that's got to the stage it's at. And I reckon that will be true with Yamaha's Revstar; it has a totally unique identity that sits comfortably alongside the classics, and it's quality should ensure it ages into being a really desirable player's instrument.

That IS, positively, a good looking guitar! The Pacifica-721 was my 1st ever electric guitar. I fell in love with it about 30-years ago, spent thousands of hours playing it and still have her today. The upper, or mid-to-upper end Pacificas were FANTASTIC back then. I've, more recently, taken a chance with a 611 iteration and wasn't as impressed with it. However, its seemingly low output may be a simple fault in the wiring and if so, if the thing were given a higher degree of response via a re-connected ground wire, or similar, it certainly may have a chance at recapturing my fancy!

Yeah some of them would break you down straight out of the box, but if you had a good setup on it, usually involves sanding the saddle and nut to get the action down . That’s especially true of the cheapest ones but they can’t be beat for the money Yamaha has always made the best sub 500 dollar acoustics since the 70s and maybe earlier. Some of those MIJ 70s Yamaha Dreads are Martin, Taylor, and Gibson killers. Yamaha is the only Jack of all trades master of most everything they make is world class. Those 200 dollar China Yamaha pay a tech another hundred to put the mojo on it and the 200 dollar Yamaha will compete with and hold its own with any other acoustic up to 1000 . They make a fantastic 3/4 student acoustic now as well.

@@brandonjackson5865 my dad was the guitar player in the family but had no idea about set ups. He gave me a paperback book, showed A,G and D open chords and that was it. @@blaineadams7484 I played mine for years with jacked up action. Back when I started playing everyone recommended starting out on acoustic and I thought it was because they were harder to play due to my Yamaha and even a nice Yari Alverez a friends mom had the action on the Yari was low but she had some heavy gauge strings on it. Anyway it wasn’t into adulthood and the internet that I finally decided to work on my Yamaha and filed the saddle and nut down. I actually thought when I was younger playing it like that would improve my electric playing and I’m sure it built strength in my fretting fingers, but honestly I’m usually jealous of guys who have only ever played acoustics, jealous of their crisp clean open chord changes and strumming just clean rhythm cowboy chords and I can work at it and clean my technique up but I’ve just come to accept that my cowboy chord and strumming is always going to be more sloppy than I’d like, but it’s Rock N Roll right ? It’s not too hard for anyone of basic mechanical skills to find an article or video demo fixing the action on cheaper acoustics the key is slow and patient you can take more off but it’s not impossible just harder to add material back.

As a GC employee I sell almost exclusively Yamahas for budgets sub $350. They are so good. In my opinion, the acoustic guitars from brands like Fender and Ibanez suffer in quality because their resources are really spent on electric guitars and they don’t focus on acoustic guitars. The pacifica hadnt been setup at the shop what so ever but we were kids so i didnt know that was fairly normal... but where his dad had bought it he didnt want me working on it. Not that i really blame him but i genuinely thought it was just a crap brand since my peavey predator (usa made strat clone... copy doesnt do it justice) was by far a better playing guitar. But yeah at 14 or whatever i didnt know that a new guitar may or may not come set up and just chalked it up to the brand must be terrible as a whole. The follies of youth i suppose.

Consistently good quality and fret work even on the cheaper Pacifica’s. I’d happily gig a Pacifica 112v I don’t regard it as a student instrument. I’ve been gigging 40+ years mainly use a Tele but I’ve had a couple of yams over the years superb.

Yamaha has the best Drums and Hardware in the Industry, I have a couple Guitars and basses that are fantastic too. Yamaha Live PA System and Studio up that is nothing but awesome either, everything I get now is Yamaha. I used to be a Ludwig guy until I got a hold of a Yamaha Tour custom kit with the 700 series Hardware, and it's been game over ever since.

Goldeneye is the greatest game of all time. Me and my buddy alternated renting it for over a year. We were customers of the year 2 years in a row. I think it was my 12th birthday and I ended up with two copies lol. Dual wield rcp90s with paintball mode on lol

Yamaha bought Ampeg a few years ago. I'd love to see them back in the guitar amp business, but I'm sure the bass amp business suits them fine.

Love Yamaha acoustics and I really want to try a Revstar . I’d love to have an old 70s MIJ red label. My Uncle has one and my Pa would always say his Yamaha would drown out the Martin across the stage. Sound is subjective and I think the Yamaha acoustics are a little more mid focused and balanced than others. Yamaha absolutely still makes custom shop level acoustics around the 3,000 dollar range and they are beautiful, or at least they did as of a couple years ago. Yamaha doesn’t have to compete at the top of any particular market because they make a little bit of everything and it’s always good, they got money coming in from every direction. Those new Revstars look so cool very cafe racer meets guitar. Volkswagen and Mercedes have been killing it in the small diesel powered European market and I think that’s what puts them up so high. Toyota is the benchmark of world class quality in the automotive industry. They are of a completely different mind set than American manufacturers. American manufacturers talk about Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen, but Toyota lives it . I know at an engine plant near me they would count fasteners at different times in a shift and if one was unaccounted for they would stop the line and try to locate the missing whatever it is that was missing and if it wasn’t found they would start tearing down engines until they found it. An American company would suspect debris in an engine and then have their quality techs or mechanics introduce debris into an engine and put on the dyno and see if it would make it past warranty. I saw the aftermath of a 12 liter turbo diesel (that’s a big rig motor) that slung a rod clear through the fuel filter module and caught the dyno on fire. The rod in this engine was about the size of an average adult man’s wrist to elbow. The quality manager had a tech put a piece of metal in a rod bearing big enough that it locked the engine up and it couldn’t be turned over by hand , but our dyno had a huge air powered starter and it cranked it right up and it ran nearly an hour before “ catastrophic failure “ or “ licked its nuts “ as we lovingly referred to our most recently crank case “ evacuated” engines .
