I’ve been a bike nut since the age of 8 and I’m 63 now always had at least 3 bikes on the go and have owned several scoots bloody awesome things , can’t understand the negative reaction they get , to me anything with two wheels and an engine is great couldn’t care less how it’s packaged as long as it’s practical or fun or like a tmax both, keep the faith MCN and neevsy is the best 🏍️👍

Pushing 60 & I agree. I've kept various mopeds in the garage since the 80's & occassionaly I dig it out & do a few miles (smiling) then put it away. Unfortunately Tax, Ins & MOT mean it;s not as cheap as it used to be & bike theft means I daren't leave it anywhere. But it's a great idea.

Scooter to Lidl with Led Zeppelin, you have life sorted. 😂 After 48 years in big bikes, I moved from BMW to a Honda ADV350 and I feel reborn. Modern adventure bikes are too good and actually suck the adventure out of biking. Last year, I did 1000 miles in France on the ADV350 and it felt like a real adventure to me. This year, I hope to be a bit more ambitious..

Love a T Max . I have had one continuously since they launched in 2001 . From the Mk 1 to the current model now . They do everything you want and are a lot of fun . Used as a work bike as a GP , quicker than a car in gridlocked Brighton and can carry all you need . Long distances no problem you can do 3-400 mile days with ease . Try one . I have other bikes but this is the one I use most day to days. Good for you Mr Neeves 😎

As a teenager, I had a poster of a Vespa on my wall before I fell into `proper’ motorcycles. Years later, I’m looking to get the (discontinued) Yamaha Niken GT. In the UK, where everyone tries to be hard, if a scooter doesn’t get you any stick, a Niken should help! Thumbs up for whatever you ride. It’s all just different flavors of transport. No one needs to cry.

I’m of the same mind; use my 250 X-Max as a car replacement here in London.Swallows masses of shopping, while driving and parking are so simple. It’s also a pleasant experience doing longer trips from time to time especially in winter, but I still own and ride motorcycles. They compliment each other very well, as Michael has realised.

I was at a trackday and this guy had a Burgman 650, it was a total executive scooter. This thing looked like the Buick of scooters, it looked as if it should have a faux woodgrain dash, it was big and luxurious. The guy riding it was a good rider too and passed many bikes, I kid you not, this thing hauled ass around the track! I kept thinking this guy should be holding a big snifter of brandy passing all these young guys on ultra tech sport bikes through the corners. Too funny. Never underestimate anything that has a Suzuki badge (or the triple tuning fork), you might get passed by one.

@@Watson2108 The TMAX Tech max 560 definitely stands out to me with its advanced tech and smooth performance. I’m not a fan of the DCT-it tends to shift up and down when I don’t want it to and feels quite jerky. It even changes gears mid-corner, which is far from ideal. But that’s just my personal preference. Additionally, the overall finishing quality doesn’t quite match Yamaha’s standards.I like the looks of the X-Adv and that's it🙏

I've been riding for almost 60 years and for the last 20 I've always had a scooter in the garage parked next to a multitude of different bikes. Most fun scooter was the ItalJet Dragster 180 that got me started and moved up to a 650 Burgman, Vespa 300 and now a Piaggio BV400. I just sold my Moto Guzzi v100 Mandello S today(!) because motorcycles in south Florida really aren't much fun but running around on the Beverly is a hoot plus the advantage of getting around some horrible traffic. I may buy another motorcycle in the future, but I'm going to live with just the scooter for awhile and see how it fits my life at 73

I think of scootering more as a use case than a particular machine. Abandon the car and use a suitably configured bike for grocery runs and other errands. When something becomes too large or heavy to carry, buy online and have it delivered. When a batch of groceries can't be handled with one trip, make three (its good to be retired.) I love the maxi scooter idea however the manufacturers just don't sell enough of them in the Canadian market to justify importing them. I end up using some other middle displacement model of motorcycle with a top case and such but the use case is pure scooter. I am kind of jealous of those big mitts and the cover for your legs. I wonder if they could be fitted to a 690 supermoto?

Space for stuff under the seat, plenty fast enough to rip past cars on the highway, super comfortable and still fun to rip corners on. Yamaha hasn't sold them in Canada for a while, which is a shame because I'd likely buy a new one if I could.

Love it. I’ve had loads of scooters and standard motorbikes since my 20s. My favorite scooter was an original Bajaj Chetak with the 4 speed manual transmission on the left hand and the rear brake on the right foot. Living in Taiwan I have one of those electric Gogoro scooters and the instant torque really gets you up to speed even though it’s heavy and is capped at 8hp. Bought a 22 XSR 700 recently and that’s been my leisure bike. Think I’m gonna pick up an older GROM this year to bomb around on. All motorbikes are a blast and anything we as riders can do to encourage others to ride is great. Maybe someone else’s bike ain’t your cuppa tea, but it’s important to be welcoming to get others onto motorbikes so we’ll have a market and companies will keep churning out new models.

How so? If you use it for commuting I can see why. I paid more for my bike that I use for commuting. If you think about it, people pay way more for a small car that used for the same purpose. If anything, it just puts into perspective sports bikes and the like, as why would you pay more (in some cases even double) for something with less usability? I feel its much easier to justify 14k for a practical bike/scooter than 20k for a toy.

@tHaH4x0r You can get a brand spanking new V Strom 650 for less than half the price (even the 800s for not much more) or Honda's own Forza/ADV 350 for almost a third! @@ZT-wz8yy A brand new suzuki swift can be had for about 20k euro. Does that mean there's no reason to buy a porsche cayenne coupé at 174k? They both carry people, and the swift can even fit in tighter parking spaces! Of course my comical example is a bit of a hyperbole, but I am trying to get the point across that just because something is 'also a scooter' does not equate to a similar price. The worth of a scooter is also not solely judged by the storage capacity, but by a lot of other factors. I have not ridden either scooter and thus cannot judge on the particular models, but depending on your means, requirements and personal preferences either can probably be a good option. Perhaps for you it would not make sense due to luggage or budget constraints, but those might not hold for others.

I love Tmaxs - I've had 8 and own 2 currently, but Yamaha quality has really gone downhill. You need continuous ACF50ing to keep it anything like rust free - the centrestand will start to rust in a few months! But its so good to ride - much more fun than most other maxis, that you forgive it most things!

Out for a ride one day when a Burgman 400 shot by me with an Akra on it, the bike was a bit rough, looks like it was well trashed but also well maintained. Sounded mad.

I wish that scoot was available in the U.S.. I had an XMax. Liked it, but I wanted a bit more power. The first generation TMax I owned was fun too. However, it did not provide the comfort for long tours I was interested in at the time. If fact, it was quit painful for the high mileage days I rode. However, for errands and short rides it is an excellent choice. At this point in my riding life I discovered the Goldwing DCT bagger. Although not as practical for town use and way more money, the Wing DCT is like getting on the most luxurious scooter ever. 😀

100% want to see this on track and any other content, like drag races or something to show how quick they are off the line compared to much higher powered bikes. I think I like the idea of having a small ish scooter in the garage just to do local trips, but it would always been a second bike, or even third and it would need to be quick, something like a 350 but normal scooter sized not a maxi scoot.

If I wasn’t so bloody tall and I had the space in the garage I’d love to have a proper maxi scooter for the ’dull’ miles I do. Running errands, commuting, the school run, do I need the big Vstrom for that? Not in any way does the 19” front or the 1037cc help me filter. Add a heated seat and a blanket? Man, I’d love that half the year.

I loved my Honda Integra 750 dct (early Forza). It was 100% practical, and the engine was brilliant on fuel, I regularly saw 80mpg commuting into work and back. BY the same token the engine also let it down because it would run out of revs just where other bikes come alive. Traded it for a VFR1200x crosstourer dct, and I often look back and wonder should I have kept it.

I had a TMAX530 Iron max was a 2016 model put 55,000km on it. Was great but huge service costs though, My 20k service with the variator and filter replacements put 15gr weights in there as well was around $1800. Every 20k you need to do it. I remember the valve check at 40k pulled it apart only to find a paper engine gasket not a rubber one…. Think my total service costs for 5 years including tyres was around $8k. Service intervals from Yamaha are every 5k on this if you want to keep the warranty.

I've had two tmaxes, and I absolutely love them. Went for a T7 for a couple of years but it's just not as practical, nor as comfortable, nor as smooth. I am however wondering if I should try the latest Forza 750 which really does look very good, and is a bit cheaper than the Tmax, and probably a bit better long distance. It would be great if you could test one, given your deep experience with the tmax, and compare the two.

I remember cringing a bit when my father showed me his new X-Max, But i borrow it every now and then when he's on vacation and it changed my mind on scooters. They're awesome. Especially for short trips around town. Wouldn't bother using my normal bikes to go around town, but the scooter you just use for anything. It reaches operating temperature before the end of the street, tons of luggage space and economical. Aaand, actually pretty fun to ride too. No shifting, just put on some music and twist the throttle, full focus on hitting the twisties around town, really fun. The Xmax has terrible suspension unfortunately, the Tmax is better in a lot of ways but they each shine in different ways. If i was rich l'd buy one instantly. But until then, i just use my bicycle around town and my other bikes for the longer distances.

That’s fair. Look at sales of remotely similar machines. I think BMW has something kinda similar. Same reason the R6 stopped being sold (as a road bike). Same reason cars like the Honda S2000 stopped being made. Hell, same reason it’s almost impossible to find a manual transmission in a car at this point.

In the 80/90's I had various sportsbikes but had a few TS185'S (Cheap then) as work/daily riders. I even fitted a top box, muffs & later road tyres (they were cheap). I got the idea from an old guy who had a bright green CZ175 Trail bike thing with road tyres that he used for work instead of his mint R100RS. He pre-dated Supermotos & X-ADV 🤣My mates took the p!ss.Especially when I got a C70. But the reality was I had as much if not more fun on the cheap trail bikes. Sadly those days are gone. But I do get where The Nevemeister is coming from. I still have an old TS250 & c90 but the thought of leaving it outside my local shop would be madness as it would be nicked in minutes. So my winter hack is now a 20+ year old Golf TDi 130 estate. if you know cars then it does the job for £900. The last one cost £600 & lasted 10yrs. Also my nice (now) 25+ yr old VFR800 sort of does eveything I need. I digress great idea mate.

Live on an island top average speed ( if your lucky is 45 mph ) excellent for handling round them country roads etc* plus not mentioned the centre stand is locked when you park up . Ps it’s not a Moped 🤪🤪🤣🤣

I'm also an avid fan of large scooters and love my XADV. However compared with a conventional motorcycle scooters are inordinately heavier and physically larger. If my XADV were about 3/4 the size and 75 lbs lighter I'd be really happy. I guess the nature of the structure is simply too challenging engineering-wise to trim the weight and size to be more in line with equivalent 750 cc standard motorcycles.
