Good timing. Being the bottom feeder that I am, I'm looking at the used market. I've owned two TDubs, sold them about 10 years ago. Loved the bikes and recently started looking for another used one. Holy cow, the used prices for TW's have skyrocketed! A well-used two thousand dollar TW is now thirty-five hundred! So, I started looking at the used XT250's and I'm liking what I'm seeing. They are depreciating much faster than TDubs. I found a used 2017 on Marketplace for $3200 with less than a thousand miles. Checking it out tomorrow.

Thanks Matt. A couple years ago I narrowed my decision down to these 2 bikes and chose the XT250. For me I think it was a good decision. I like the better top speed and the bigger gas tank for when I go on a long, remote ride where there are no gas stations. I love the XT for my style of riding, but my main complaint is something you noticed - the seat isn't comfortable. I find myself standing on the pegs a lot, which is probably the better technique on the rough jeep trails in any case.

I love the TW!!! What I love is the slower speed torque on trails. As much as I love the fat rear tire, the traction sucks IMHO I'd rather have something that got more bite. I also wish the TW had fuel injection instead of carb for easier maintenance. Oh, and I prefer the digital screen on the xt . I have both, I go to the TW 9x out of 10 for off-road.

Hi Matt. I tried for years to get a TW200 and finally had to settle as I found a low mileage excellent condition XT250. As fate would have it, my neighbour asked me to ride his new to him TW200 to his home. The bike showed up at the local Yamaha dealer 2 weeks later😩! Happy for him as he got a hell of a deal on it. Anyway I can easily reach the ground on both of them with my 30 inch inseam. I did change my front sprocket up one tooth to 16. Great on the highway at 65 mph plus speedo is much more accurate. The XT being a larger motor does have noticeably more power. It rides nicer due to the extra suspension and lower unsprung weight because of the much lighter tires. As far as being more sophisticated, only compared to the T-Dub😂. It’s a really basic air cooled motorcycle. Do I prefer it over the T-Dub? On pavement for sure if the speed limit is over 50 mph. If I didn’t already own 5 Yamahas and a Road King I’d still be looking for a T-Dub. Love your channel Matt. Also one of your local dealers should loan you a XT for the exposure. Win win. Thanks for your time Matt. Appreciated. If I didn’t live thousands of miles away I would lend you mine just to see the reviews.

I know some of the dealers around me would know if they do or not because a lot of folks around here use them on the farm to go check sprinklers or run back and forth from the tractor and stuff like that. XT250 is an amazing bike, I wonder if the DRZ650 is going fuel injected this year which is really the only competition the XT250 has for its bike design Also XT250 is not designed for road, its like the TW200 where it can be on the road by function, not design. It's also a backwoods beater.

How well would the TW do an hour long drive (at 60) through the country on pavement, and would the rider be comfortable? How are the accessory options for saddlebags (lockable hard cases preferred but soft is ok too) and/or jerrycans? I live in a small corn belt town and I get groceries in town or at a wmart 20-30mi away, and my family all live around an hour from me. I’d like the ability to SAFELY (not get run over from being too slow) go visit family and grab groceries or small hardware using the bike while having the ability to go play in mud (TW is good on trails, but can you go mudding with it?!) or cruise woodlands and off-roading trails when the opportunity presents itself. The longest regular (often) drives I’d be looking to do on a TW would be 2 purely country routes (mostly paved tho), and another that’d take me through small towns and into a small city. ..normally I take the simpler interstate route to that last one, in my work/mud truck, but I imagine it’d be nearly suicidal to take a TW on an interstate (frankly I wouldn’t want to ride any motorcycle on an interstate). I’ve been eyeing TWs as it’s definitely the kind of bike I’d like, off-roadable, stout and sturdy, and not likely to throw me on my arse from a bit of accidental whiskey-throttle especially when when already at speed on pavement, unlike sportier bikes
@MOBStreet832 сағат бұрын
The TW200 is great for everything you have mentioned here but the 60mph. If you changed out the rear sprocket to a 47t then you could do it, but you wouldn't have much power to increase your speed if needed (say to pass a car or something) I have ridden more than 200 miles in a day on mine, but I have had to plan the route so I wouldn't be topped out the whole time. I have stock gearing though. There were days I rode more than 4 hours straight at higher speeds, but never really topping 60. I found it comfortable, others don't. But I also condition myself by doing a lot of shorter rides on the bike. Everything else you mentioned though, the TW200 is a great machine for. This bike won't throw you at all if you go full tilt while at speed either. I hope that helps!

Relax riding, chill, check out the scenery, camp ground RV bike. My XR 650 L is my dual sport. Ripping n the woods with buddy riding DRZ 400. Just legal enough to jump from trail to trail without trailering.

Great presentation. I'm a bit tall so for me the XT would be the obvious choice, even though I like the looks of the TW more, probably because of its chunky tires which makes the bike look like it can float over almost any terrain. These days I ride a few bikes, one of them my KLX230, which I'd say directly compares to the XT250. I understand your love for Yamaha, but taking a closer look at the KLX isn't so wrong, in fact it is priced a good lot less that the Yamaha XT250, mostly due to its less complex build. Performance is similar, both are about the same size and weight. I really hope that you two become more friends with each other ;)

Seems that the TW is an ideal bike for a slightly timid wife, or a man that simply wants to putter. Either bike is good in conjunction with a pickup truck, to bring the motorcycles to back country riding instead of driving the bike to an off-road adventure. I had a Yamaha 225, and found that I COULD scare myself off-road with it, although it was not the best in deep sand, a bigger engine would have been easier. I am wondering, though, if I would be better off adding turn signals to a WR250F, and licensing that. Seems like a better bike, but $4000 more is a problem.

You said TW more dependable? After sitting all winter I'd rather be trying to start the XT with fuel injection. Don't you think?
@MOBStreet8323 күн бұрын
I think that really depends on if you winterize/store it properly? I run mine all year long and it isn't a big deal to pull the choke for second to start the bike. But yes, as far as dependability goes, I would much rather depend on a carburetor that I can dismantle and clean if needed than trying to fix a fuel injected system. Hopefully, neither of these bikes sit that long, but if they do I would rather take my chances that way. I have nothing against the XT and I think it is a great machine. As long as it is taken care of I don't think you'd ever really have any issues with it.

The XT, being fuel injected, if it failed, you could not fix it on the trail. The fuel pump costs over 400.00. I have not herd of any problems with the pump, but it could happen. Also I don't know of any large fuel tanks offered like on the CRF 300. The TW has a carb, so no worry about a fuel pump or injector problem, and you can get a larger fuel tank for the TW. The TW has very good aftermarket support like Pro-Cycle. Nothing against the XT, but I would take the TW hands down. I would buy a CRF 300 LS over the XT. More power, better aftermarket, and low seat height with the LS model.
