Back when I had my 1992 TZ250D in 2004 I found the easiest way to deal with 1000cc Superbikes was to outbrake them into turns and carry more corner speed-both things a TZ is made for. It also doesn’t hurt that a TZ on the pipe has got enough acceleration to keep with the big bikes and is very little down on top speed. It’s only the very big tracks like Silverstone GP, and Mugello with long straights that the top end of a 1000cc bike allows it to pull away.

You can tell the r1 is having to push pretty hard around the corners while the tz is having no problem. The r1 is able to pull away out of corners but once the tz hits its upper powerband it has no problem catching up. Also notice at 0:55 that the tz is able to decelerate much faster.

I love those two strokes. I've had a TZ-250 absolutely FLY by me on the outside of a sweeper turn on a track. Scared the you know what out of me. Love that sound.

The TZ-250 is in a class out of league with street bikes...no matter how much you mod the streetbike. The aluminum tank on my bike is about a pound, empty. When you handle the bike on foot, it feels as light as a 250 motocross bike. Weight is the factor in this class. Coupled with the powerband of a two stroke, the intense accelleration, and then the ability to slow down faster and later than the heavier bikes, more than makes up for the horse power difference.

I had an H1 500 and and TZ 350 G on the road both were as quick as most bikes of any cc but the TZ was crazy fast

Going from riding a honda VT-1000R to experiencing a real GP two stroke is quite a shock. But the TZ is much easier to ride fast. The VTR scares me now when I ride it fast. 1st gear on the TZ is like 3rd gear on a streetbike. Shifting you notice how widely spaced the gearing is. The dry "slipper" clutch is obviously used to augment getting on the pipe at low speeds, you can wring out 1st gear to 90 mph. Quite an eye opener. Very fun bikes two stokes are. No substitute anywhere.

I love 2 stroke. Primitive but funtional like Ak47. Yes, R1 had superpower on straight line, but in corners, TZ is realy close behind him.

The video doesn’t let us see if the TZ ever overcame the R1 cause it is such a short clip.

Useless video since we have no idea which bike is which, and the quality of the video is so poor you can’t tell.

I could only tell because people pointed out that the TZ was able to slow down much quicker at certain time stamp. so it can only be the red one
@casualguy3938 Жыл бұрын
Look at the size of them. The red one is way smaller.

Back in 1993ish I was at the Bonneville Raceway in Utah, they have a race called “Race of the Wasatch” It’s the last race of the day after all of the other races have finished. This particular race, you can race ANYTHING that’s a motorcycle that passes the race safety requirements. Well this guy arrived from Idaho, in what appeared to be an old rusted beat up 1966 $200 van. Walah, then this guy in the pits, pulls out a current year Yamaha TZ 250. ( it looked new ) this was my first time I’ve ever seen one in person. Anyways, that bike was very loud, and it left the 1100’s, the 1000’s, the 750’s, effortlessly on the straight every time. It was truly exciting for the crowd what they were witnessing. At that time a Yamaha FZR1000 cost $11,000, the TZ250 cost $17,000 Someone mentioned the cost of a 500cc two stroke. I remember reading in the 90’s that you could-NOT buy one, back then you could only LEASE one for one race season for 3/4 of a million dollars back in the lower mid 1990’s. Here is an updated video on the cost of a 500cc GP bike. Make sure you are sitting down first before you are watching. kzbin.infoCtpfBdqaQ2I?feature=share
