Just want to stop back in and say thank you. I helped a neighbor get a 2006 vstar 650 back on the road thanks to your video. The bike was a bit of a basket case when I started but this was the last piece. The bike would idle perfectly but as soon as you applied throttle it would bog and die. It shows as a lean condition and a carb issue. That motor, like some others, does require a specific vacuum range for the main fuel circuit to function properly. A lot of good is going to come from this simple video and getting this bike running. Thank you!

Thanks for the tip !!! Ill put that in my mental toolbox !!! I had read about cracks in the boots below the carbs, and also rubbing spit, on the boots sealing lips when re-installing the carbs so they slip in easier and the spit dries out so the carbs don't vibrate loose which is another problem, if you lube with oil or the like. I will definitely remember this tip because like the rest it is so simple it is easily missed. Too easy to over think some problems ! Bet you gave yourself a big ole pat on the back when you resolved this issue !!! Yee Haaa, lets Ride !!! Thanks Again !!!!!

This is what makes carbureted engines "interesting" let's say. There are so many places for vacuum leaks and blocked carburetor air/gas holes . You might spend 5 minutes , or maybe 5 hours chasing the problem.

This shit literally happened to me right now while i was about to sell it. Limped it back home with choke wide open and tightened the aircleaner hose back up n what do u know. Back to running like a top..... Lost out on a sale. Guess it was a sign not to get rid of her

I have a 07 vstar. Carbs rebuilt. Fuel filter is flowing gas through the lines. Air filter seems okay. Would not accelerate past 60mph, if I give it full throttle in gear the bike would not accelerate past 60mph and it would start to die down/bog out. It sounded like a large exhaust leak(like there was no seal in the front headers) at full open throttle down the highway, the difference between half throttle and full throttle is huge. Idles fine and giving it full throttle during idle wouldn’t make the noise as it would if it was in gear. Obvious lean condition, front pipe headers are turning blue, motor running really hot, battery not holding a charge if key was in off for more than a minute, wasting more gas than usual, small but noticeable ticking noise.

So I think it's what you said. The bike running lean, could also be a a intake leak. I would double check the air box though. Sucking in unfiltered air, even a small amount will cause this. This will also cause a lean condition.

BAMA BOY SMITH I have one question when at idle did it run beautiful? I had the carbs rebuilt a couple weeks ago. However it just has no acceleration only a slow climb through the gears. In neutral it runs through the RPMs perfectly

Hey there, great video's. I have a 2000 vstar 650 that had been sitting for a while. Had the carbs cleaned and it will run but, I haven't gotten it out on the road yet. I noticed that the choke cable did not work, ordered a new one and installed but it doesn't move. I checked the connections back to the carbs and it doesn't move. Wondering it has glazed up from sitting and it that is the case is there a way to get them to release short of taking the carbs out? Appreciate your help.

Make sure all the parts connecting and line running to the choke are connected correctly. Mine did this once and it loose where the tension bracket is

@@unstoppableking3235 again I would make sure the air intakes are sealed well and even check the fuel lines to make sure one is not being pinched. Could also be a float in the cabs getting stuck when you lean it over

@@crankbrothersvlog3026 yes if the air box is not sealed wright it will cause this for sure. It’s that or the carbs. More than likely the air box though

change the 2 main jets from a # 90 to a #92.5 and it will stop being so lean

I sold the bike, but it was just the air box not being correctly put back on. It lost vacuum and would not pull enough air to mix correctly with fuel. Once I put it back on the correct way it ran fine

What is that horrible noise when you give it the gas. Sounds like the starter is caught and being forced to turn over when you give it the rpms.

Make sure your idle screw is not turned down to low. MAKE SURE YOUR ADJUSTING THE CORRECT SCREW...dont mess with the carb sync screws..also your smallest jet could have crap in it. Run some seafoam thru her, after checking the intake housing as I explained.

Well mine isn't overflowing fuel it isn't getting enough its still getting in the carb but its not enough

I would still check the seal. I'm not sure. I think mine was flooding one time and starving for fuel the next. Fixing the breather box cured it.

I would also check your fuel filter. Could have trash in it

@@bamaboysmith2723 i am going to check the filter because sense it was sitting the fuel line dissolved a bit and it was gunked up

@@kilowatttheorignal also even small amounts of rust can clog up the jets. If you take the side off the cards be care not to strip the bolt heads. I went ahead and just got more from my local hardware store. I think they are 5mm. Cleaning the jets is easy. Just do not turn the card sync knob in the middle. It will cause one carb to use more or less fuel than the other. Simple job on these bikes to clean the jets though..

@@bamaboysmith2723 i already took the carb apart yesterday there was alge but luckily no rust yet so I cleaned it up and if the carbs get out of sync I have a carburetor sync tool pain its a pain tho
