Great part of the country, but not so nice when it rains! Well done...... My Mum (95 this weekend) was an evacuee pupil at Learmore house from Belfast during the world war 2. I took her back to visit 10 years ago, Cheers

Hi Richard. Yes, I noticed on the information sign at Learmount that the girls from Ashleigh House school had been evacuated there during WW2. That must have seemed like a world away back in those days but hopefully your mother has some good memories of the place.

Really enjoy the xj900f videos Al. Just got an 89 model in black, 23000 miles last owner 30 years! I thought I was the only person who worked out their mpg! It's the same at about 60. Keep these coming. Well done.

Thanks John. There aren't many XJ's around these days. I do like the black paint scheme. I'm a real mpg fanatic, I know .....SAD!😂

Cheers Cecil. I agree about the mental health statement. I can spend hours in the garage just footering around the bikes. Happy as a pig in you know what!

Another great vid, mate. As soon as you pulled into Learmount I recognised it instantly. I remember that as well as being very wet it was also bloody freezing at night and you and I were in those kapok filled sleeping bags our parents had bought us. Whatever made you pick Culdaff as a destination, it is not exactly the social centre of the world? Come to that it is hardly even the social centre of Donegal! Shame about the Atlantic weather and I remember that when Lynne was over visiting from Canada a few years back that she was complaining about it as well so I had to remind her that it was her country that sent it all in the first place. Keep them coming.

Love the Mamore Gap, after you come down the 'big hill's, go straight over the crossroads and theres a lovely wee secluded harbour off to the left, we always have a BBQ there. Love the XJ.

Cheers Phil, thanks for commenting. The best of it is, I had a pair of waterproof overboots in the pannier but it was just too much hassle to put them on! Lazy bugger.

Brian, I remember the Derri boots well. To be truthful they weren't very cool.... waterproof yes, cool no😆 I Googled them earlier and they're all but a thing of the past. I'll just stay out of the rain from now on!

Dear Sir, i have a similar bike, an '88 model 95.000km's. When pulling away, there's a 'clunck'in the final drive. I cannot find the cause, the joint is okay. The only thing i can think of is excessive play between the 2 pinions? The manual states nothing about this part of the bike ('Should be adjusted by an expert') Is this normal for these bikes?
@AlistairCampbell1047cc Жыл бұрын
Hi Arie, I too have a clunk when moving away from a standstill. Someone else contacted me regarding the clunk in the drivetrain. I haven't investigated yet but it seems to be quite common. If you figure it out, let me know and likewise, if I hear about the cause of the noise, I'll pass it on to you. Thanks for watching.

@@AlistairCampbell1047cc Thanks, i was tipped that the nut at the gearbox side could have come loose, but this was not the case. And it really seems to happen at the rear where the crown and pinion gears meet...

How often do you change oil on your xj Alister? Should I worry about water or condensation build up over winter while it's not running much
@AlistairCampbell1047cc2 жыл бұрын
To be honest I've never never really worried too much about condensation in the oil. Due to the limited mileage that I do, I would tend to change the oil maybe every other year. If the bike was in constant use, I wouldn't like to let it go much over 6k miles although I'm sure modern oils will last much longer than this. Thanks for commenting.

Hello always fill up the tank in winter to avoid corrosion. always open the oil inlet screw in the spring and smell whether it smells of petrol. Then never start. Change the oil immediately. My motorcycle mechanic told me yesterday. I will soon also have an XJ900 F built in 1987 I'm looking forward to it 😊 Warm greetings from Germany
