This is exactly why I love Yamaha XT250! I downsized to it from bigger bikes - and I've been enjoying it way more than any other bike before it. Keep posting the videos!

Not too many bikes can take you where this thing can and then take you to work the next day. XT is a pretty cool bike.

I've always wanted to add an XT250 to my stable. I just got back from Tdub fest near Provo. If there's one thing that little bike can do, is crawl along slowly through anything. But I wouldn't mind the extra HP that the XT250 has.

Beautiful scenery, great little bike. The xt250 can just about do it all.

Sometimes you just need to send it. I know the feeling though and sometimes it really is challenging as hell. I was thinking about asking if the TW would be better. Also you got some awesome footage out there, super awesome scenery.

@donwatkins9769 Жыл бұрын
I am sure glad you did that ride now I know I don't want too. Funny thing I was just out in that area and went down stuff I was thinking "I sure hope I don't have to ride back this way." I traded the XT for the 300L and lowered it so now a lot of difference from the xt250. Another fun video thanks.
@AwesomesMan5 ай бұрын
how do you like the 300l compared to the XT?
@artfulalias398410 ай бұрын
Hello Precipice. I consider myself a below average rider compared to people who grew up riding dirt bikes. I'm also early middle age. I find my conditioning level a challenge in rugged terrain. So I hope you won't be offended if I share a couple of things that help me, that might help you. The first thing is equipment related. I combined the Tubliss® system with MotoZ Mountain Hybrid tires. The MH tire has stiff sidewalls and a very compliant crown. Its a trials/enduro hybrid. And the XT250 reminds me of a trials/enduro hybrid bike. The Tubliss keeps the tire on at very low pressure and provides some rim protection. The MH tires' stiff sidewalls provides good rim protection. I'm not afraid to run this combination at 0 psi at lower speeds. The soft crown at 2 to 6 PSI [on my light bike] rolls over baby heads and square edges without affecting momentum and bouncing offline. Traction on rock and dusty hardpan, and when climbing, is incredible. They are as good on the highway as 50/50 dual sport tires when aired up, except there is some noise. On my light bike the back likes only about 15 psi on the highway. They last much better than other rears I've used. They are not great in deep sand or gumbo mud. But really only specialized soft terrain tires are. Its possible to get on top of sand when aired down, with careful throttle control and conserving momentum. In general they are excellent for tractor-ing, bad for MX style roosting. The front is as good anywhere as any knobby, as far as I can tell. That's my longwinded way of saying airing down + rim protection is a game changer. Once the bike isn't bouncing around so much you might find it much easier to stand and make big weight shifts front to back. I notice on certain obstacles you tend to sit and/or unweight the rear right when it needs weight off the saddle and shifted far to the rear. Cool bike and beautiful road. Thanks for sharing.

That's a really interesting tire, riding on them literally flat? Might have to give these a shot when funds allow me.
@artfulalias398410 ай бұрын
I wouldn't start at 0. With that tire and Tubliss maybe start around 8 psi. Drop pressure a little at a time until it starts working really good. Lots of variables. Tire size. Bike + rider weight. Terrain and rider aggressiveness. A tire with more flexible sidewalls maybe start at 12 PSI and reduce pressure slowly and carefully. Pinch flats are expensive. Bent rims more so. But forgive me if I repeat, rim protection + airing down is transformative.👍

Nice video! I test rode an XT250 last month at a Yamaha factory demo. I expected it to be a very slow bike, but I was quite impressed with the power that it had. Of course, we were on pavement, but I feel that it is a very capable machine machine for the road, and it obvously does very well off-road I wouldn't want to do long streches of Interstate with it, but I stay off of the Interstate anyway. I do like that it has a relatively short 1st gear. I'm 5'11" , with a 33 inch inseam, and 225 lbs with gear. If I didn't already have a WR250R, I wouldl probably purchase an XT.
@precipiceofgrind Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Indeed, the XT is a very capable bike...however, long stretches on the interstate are not the XTs jam. Not saying it can't do it but it sure wouldn't be very comfortable for an individual of your size or mine.

Excellent tip, I'll add that to the kit! You know, whenever I'm at my job and am thinking that it sucks, I often remind myself there are harder jobs. One of those jobs would be a roofer in Las Vegas. God bless you amigo, I couldn't do it! Appreciate you watching!!

Thanks for your video. I'm a short rider looking at this bike as an option. I think this may be a bit easier to find than the unicorn 250 KLR however it may be better at lower speeds like your video shows. This type of ride is like what I would attempt to explore so I appreciate showing your struggles.

Another fun XT video. You are definitely getting better at riding off road. I would be interesed in seeing some TW200 content. I am interested in those little bikes. I am thinking about buying one to do the type of exploring you do on the XT. I have a Beta enduro bike, which is super capable, but there is something about those little yamaha bikes that really seem like they would be fun. Anyway, thanks for the great content D rock and be careful out there.

Going down really sketchy stuff, I will shut off engine, and use clutch as the rear brake, so i can keep my feet on the ground! Works great, for nasty, rocky down hill.

Well done. I crawl up that stuff much the way you do. Then I watch videos of Spanish factory riders who hit it at 50+ MPH on liter bikes and make it look easy.

Brother, the 250 can be a tractor in some spots, but I hope you don't dump it into a jumping cactus. That would be terrible! For non-riders, I assure you this type of riding is hard work...especially in the heat or extreme cold with lots of layers on. You get out of breath!
@precipiceofgrind10 ай бұрын
It's the yucca that's always in the back of my mind. Dumping into one of those and getting pierced through the neck could be a real problem.

It's a Fly mesh jacket with armor. It's great when you're moving, very airy. Not so great in this type of riding, especially since I was also wearing a Ted Vest. About stroked out at one point.

Do you have a preference between the XT250 and the himalayan? How are they comparatively on the highway? I’ve been considering swapping my Himalayan because I’m not confident on it off road and want something I can take more places without second guessing myself. That being said I do a lot of commuting around 70 mph which is already asking a lot of the Himi and I don’t know if the XT could handle it
@precipiceofgrind Жыл бұрын
The Himmy outweighs the XT by 150 lbs, there's your first comparison. I'm most confident off road on my XT250, it is awesome. However, the Himalayan is much more comfortable on the asphalt. Both bikes can get to 70 mph, maintaining that speed is another story. You should test ride an XT if you can.
@confettihunterminus1 Жыл бұрын
@@precipiceofgrind Thanks for the feedback! I’m looking at an 22 XT that the dealer is willing to straight swap for my Himalayan. Hopefully they’ll let me test ride
