The Yamaha XTZ 750 Super Ténéré won Paris-Dakar a total of seven times and went on to be one of Yamaha's most loved bikes of the nineties. In this video, I explain what made it special and what it's like to ride off-road.

This was my first "big" bike, coming from a 125cc scooter. Lots of great memories. Same year, same color scheme. It was such a good bike around town, and an even greater bike for touring with bags and a passenger.

I'd like to see Harry test his H2 triple Kawasaki. I was put off buying an identical brand new purple H2C eons ago, by a chap whose pal had a speed wobble and a terrible accident on an H2B. I ended up buying the neutered KH500, the modded handling and porting of which made it into a pretty decent bike but I still regret not getting that 750. The prices now are crazy though, compared to £850 ish way back when.
@harrysgarage
@harrysgarage 3 жыл бұрын
I hope to do a review in the future but the speed wobbles tended to be with the earlier H2 model and not the later H2B 750, like my bike. They lengthened the swinging arm and added a steering damper, as well as changing the porting to help smooth out the power delivery. It all seems to work as my bike is a surprisingly good bike to hussle, which I'll explain if I ever do the video!
@michaelarchangel1163
@michaelarchangel1163 3 жыл бұрын
@@harrysgarage Yes Harry, the early 500's were pretty terrible handlers as well, although I did prefer the H1A's dramatic power step. My own KH was ported to a point where it needed 3.000 RPM just to move from a standstill and it ate clutch plates so quickly, I had to double up on the washers atop 750 springs and also make diagonal cuts into the friction plate material, which would both be a handy trick for your H2's clutch if it ever lets go and you're unable to get a Barnett upgrade nowadays. All the best to you, have a good evening.

Great series and.. that is the one bike I could not bring myself to buy, for some of the reasons you mentioned, too much weight, little engine braking and, as a bike from a dealer was more a styling excercise, 900ie or original Africa Twin 650 any day.

I remember picking up my XTZ 750 brand new (Red&White) on a rainy evening, it morphed into a Gauloises Blue, stolen, and then repaired for me by Sidecar racer Roy Hanks, Custom painted by Rapier in Hull, Had the front wheel changed to a 19” , Dynojetted, road tyres, and a two into two stainless straight through exhaust by Gazelle, me and my mate went off terrorizing sports bikes in the Peak District (Gearbox was rubbish though ) 😝 Occasionally I was my Hero “Stephan Peterhansel” 😂😂 …😎👌🏻

I see people with the 660 and the 750, how effortlesly they can reach the ground. I have a 660 and I had to get it lowered in order not having to nearly demount the bike in order to put my foot securely on the ground. Still I need a shoe with a decently thick sole to not have troubles.

They were really not bad and power was manageable as it was very predictable and linear. You had to take care in second gear as it readily span the back wheel which could come round on you but the balance was ok if a little top heavy so they were quite easy to control. Not as much fun as the gs though!
