He didn't have a name, just a number. C6 was what they called him. He pulled coaches and trucks all day. He liked his work, but was getting old in his age. Then one day he stopped outside a small station. There, sitting next to a small shop, with a chain collar across it's neck, was a small brown bear.

Didn't even have a number, there should be one after the "C-62" on the numberplates on the smokebox and cab sides, as C-62 only designates what class the engine is, i.e. "C-62 48". I can only assume the animators didn't give Mr. C6 a specific number as so many were cut up for scrap they didn't want the kiddos to get distraught on finding out. In essence, it can represent all of them.

@@GravitWry No no, I mean there's a number of series that have the same tone and style of TTTE, but have a different art style with 'faceless' engines. I distinctly remember one of them, 'Over the Hills' being a period tale of a Welsh historical railway being set up. It was pretty interesting to watch, and had a very clear 'faceless' art style to it (partially because it used a different software, but also I think it was a stylistic choice).

what really gets me is that not only did Mr C6 throw out his chance at preservation, but he did so in a manner that genuinely cost the railway company a lot of money in damages to their rails and infrastructure. and it's beautiful that he did it to keep his friend safe. now i just wonder if those hunters were punished harshly for the derailment since it was their idea and it backfired in such a manner.

I can appreciate the story but I can see why Rev. W Awdry add the faces to his characters Thomas. It helps make a connection with the character. Even with someone like Herbie he has some features that the audience can connect with that resembles a face with his bumper and headlights. And the fact that his whole body moves, rattles and shakes to convey emotion. Mr. C6 has the voice down pat which helps convey the emotion and connection of the character but with out a face or point of focus for the audience to relate to visual, it's a little bit jarring. But I guess the reason why there isn't a face with this so they don't appear as though they are copying the railway series or Thomas completely. There's enough there for it to be similar but it's own thing. That's my two cents on this character. :) Not knocking it in anyway.

@@keldeostudies149 Oh God Yeah! I didn't think of that. That would be traumatising. It's actually a good thing the trains don't have faces here. The crash is a lot more intense with this story than the accidents on Thomas. But mind you, this cartoon is part of a anthology series and I had a look at what other stories it had and some of them are downright disturbing! :O And this was a series for kids! Yamataro Comes Back is actually a lot more light hearted story compared to the others but still very emotional.

I just realized that this engine looks like Hiro from the 3D animation era of Thomas. I think C62 is a similar model to Hiro. I definitely appreciate the amount of animation work that went into animating this engine as it's one of the most intricate design a steam engine can have. It's clever that most of the time, the engine is standing still or you have a lot of close up shots or when the engine is moving it's either a shadow silhouette or you just see the end of Mr. C6 as he leaves. It's a clever way to work around the animation budget for a tv episode so that way when you have the full body shots of the engine moving, the animation work really shines through (Especially for scenes like the crash at the end) instead of trying to do that all the time and stretch it over the whole episode. Quality over quantity kind of deal if that makes sense.

I hope there's a part 2! where mr.c6 gets restored and they both live together happily ever after. especially when humans get impressed that there's only 1 bear on earth that fully operates a steam locomotive. mr.c6 could tell the bear everything on how to keep his best friend alive and well maintained.

Never seen this movie, but interesting that an inanimate object, depicted just as that, other than a voice can still tug those heart strings.

i love how c6 is freeing yamataro despite the fact he can't have freedom himself being bound to his rails and needing to rely on them in order to move and in the scene of him telling yamataro what will happen if he or she (idk the gender, sue me) doesn't escape he's saying exactly what he and other steam engines are, tools, they have no freedom, they can be killed at any point for any reason

Interesting they used the C6 for this story. Does this mean they were superior to the D51s?

D51's where slow, mixed goods engines for the War Effort, D52's where a further modification for that post-war. The C62 was a modernisation of the older Victorian and Edwardian Era Passenger Locomotives, being comparable to Europe's most modern (IE right before the end of Steam) traction at the time. As the above said it was made using parts of the D52 and thus has interchangeable parts with the other classes, making it easier to produce and maintain due to sharing the same pool of tools.
