Wow, I didn't realise that the TGV's operating speed was the same as the RECORD for the E5 Shinkansen. Obviously, the new maglev Shinkansen is much faster than that, but I didn't think the difference between the fastest TGV and the fastest Shinkansen would be that big! Goes to show that how good the bullet train service is if it's still revered like it is even though it's far outpaced by the TGV and many newcomers in terms of speed. And the TGV is bloody impressive, to think you can just jump in one and go 320kph.
@SmokeyBCN Жыл бұрын
TGV downside is it often shares tracks with slower services whereas shinkansen runs on a dedicated separate network.
@ambergris5705 Жыл бұрын
@@SmokeyBCN that's not a downside, that's a feature. Since the Shinkansen only rides along dedicated tracks, if a high speed line hasn't been built next to where you live, you can't benefit from it. However, the TGV has dedicated lines that then connect to other lines, which means that even provincial towns benefit from high speed service to their doorstep. The bullet train works with the linear geography of Japan, but the TGV adapted the concept to France's much more spread out cities. Oh, and when out of the high speed lines, the TGV still has priority, so isn't slowed down by freight trains.
@Duke_of_Lorraine Жыл бұрын
The TGV has some dedicated high-speed lines, that link with regular train tracks. So just like a car starts in the city and can take the highway, the TGV can start at regular train stations then enter a high speed track, then leave it to go to a city. Once on a high speed track, the train is not slowed down by regular trains

Minor correction: FuXing is the name for a series of Chinese high-speed train, the train featured is CR400A. Shanghai Magleve is actually German Transrapid 08. Soon it will be 20 years of normal operation since October 2003.
@IndigoRyu Жыл бұрын
I also was about to mention the fact, that the Shanghai Mag-Lev is originally from Germany. It was developed during the 90s, but unfortunately, the whole mag-lev project was abandoned in Germany because of a horrible accident, that wasn't even related to technical malfunctions. This could have been an amazing way of travelling in Europe...
@AaronShenghao Жыл бұрын
@@IndigoRyu Although Maglev was seemed the future trend. It was born too early, or in other words, too expensive. (Also, it was still quite loud, protest from residents along the planned route was a major factor in subsequent cancellations) The Chinese had an ambition of building a 180km line to Hangzhou (nearest major city), which got shortened to about 60km connecting two Shanghai airports. Then it was shortened to as-built (you can see that Longyang Road station was almost in the middle of nowhere at the time, and station design doesn't really look like is a terminal. The Chinese even went to the length of assembling a knock-down kit of the Transrapid 08 train (the other three sets were directly imported) as the first step of importing/learning the technology...and nothing came from it... Their study was at the time Transrapid is just not fast enough to justify the power and infrastructure cost when ICE and Shinkansen can provide nearly as fast service speed, the rest is history. After the accident, and with China backing out further investment, Siemens saw no more value of continuing Transrapid. While the ICE (also made by Siemens) sold very well to the Chinese and the Russians. (Later the CRH380B, based on ICE3 was actually the workhorse for the Chinese HSR. CRH380B had ~40 more sets than the second place, CRH380A, derived from E2 Shinkansen.) Since 2017, The FuXin series came alone and started to replace both, with design speed at 400kph, they can run at 380 max service speed. Only 40km/h less than the Maglev) Shanghai and Hangzhou are connected with 350 km/h capable lines in the 2010's (310 km/h service speed in 2019), while the two airports are going to be connected in 2016 with express trains derived from FuXin CR200 series, running at 160km/h max service speed. The Shanghai Maglev reduced speed to 300kph most of the time (official reasons were due to power and noise concerns), but there are 4 pairs everyday that will run at 431km/h. Experience learned from operating/maintaining/building the Shanghai Maglev didn't go to waste. You can see Transrapid's shadow in the 600kph Chinese Maglev released press information for (none built yet)

I personally believe it was cheated. The Mallard went down a hill, giving it the speed it needed. Meanwhile the PRR T1 were on flat track and we're rumored to go over 140mph.

Yeah and you know why. Because steam trains usually don't drive anymore 😂

The French flag is reversed 🇫🇷 (the pole attaches to the blue side) 1:04 and in all subsequent occurrences. Same for Romania 🇷🇴 and the US 🇺🇸. All your flags that aren’t horizontally symmetric have the pole on the wrong side. 🇪🇸 🇨🇳 🇮🇹

The fact that huge and heavy bricks on metal rails are both powerful and aerodynamic enough to make a Bugatti Chiron look like a Ford Model T 😲

I've actually seen a PRR GG1 locomotive in person at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. It is PRR 49345 aka 'Blackjack'. The reason why this locomotive has such a unusual nickname is that if you were to split her road number into separate digits and add them up (4+9+3+4+5) you would get 21 or "Blackjack" hence the nickname. I also shared this video with my dad since he's into trains. Plus, if these trains were sentient like in "Thomas & Friends", I have a feeling that most of them would take a page out of the Evil Queen's book and ask any mirrors that they may possess "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the fastest of them all?" in their native languages.

But those digits add up to 25🤔

Yeah the Mallard! One of my favorite train designs, it just oozes 'art deco' design whilst also being highly functional.

bravo to your hardwork for making these videos, though the excitement isn't much like the aircraft comparison, but the visuals and animations is actually a lot better, to the point of looking realistic! I enjoyed watching the video, keep up the good work and don't let your passion run out.

Trains are one of the most underrated means of transport...
@AndrewLewer90 Жыл бұрын
They're on a tight spot right now. They only make sense if the distance is short:, for such trips, taking a plane won't make sense. Or they need to be as fast as a plane, which could make people choosing the train instead of a plane.
