Yammy VS Ichigo & Yoruichi & Urahara & Chad & Inoue English Sub

Poor Chad. Seriously, people often think he’s weak and an overall joke but the reality is this: He just had TERRIBLE luck in who he got matched up against once the Soul Society arc began. The people he loses against are typically among the stronger characters in the arc. There is a trope for this called the Worf Effect. For those unfamiliar, this trope is what happens when to establish how powerful a new villain is, they utterly curbstomp a character who is already established as incredibly strong. For the best anime example, one could look at the opening of Infinity War when Hulk gets utterly wrecked by Thanos to show that, even without the Infinity Stones, his strength is inconceivable. Here are some Bleach examples: 1. Shunsui- The guy was among the toughest of the captains. Hell, he was so strong that he was Yamamoto’s successor. At the time of Chad’s fight with Shunsui, even Ichigo wouldn’t have stood 1% of a chance. Plus, to give Chad more credit, Shunsui pretty much admitted that if Chad had speed equal to his power, Chad’s final attack could have seriously hurt him. One of the arrancars even straight up observed that Chad’s raw power was greater than Uryu’s BUT Chad’s poor speed makes it irrelevant. This fight was to demonstrate how dangerous the captains were. 2. Yammy (seen above)- This guy (in this form) was one of Aizen’s elite troops. This beating was to show that for the first time, speed wasn’t Chad’s problem. He was fighting an enemy who had INSANE raw power. Plus, Yammy can take a great deal of punishment even before his 2nd release. Yammy’s skin was so hard that it damaged Yoruichi to the point that she needed to take the precaution of getting armor when she showed to fight Aizen. Yammy also shrugged off direct hits from Kisuke and Uryu. Then in his 2nd release, he was able to take on a much stronger Chad, Renji, Rukia, and Ichigo (a half strength Ichigo but still) all at once. It took Byakuya and Kenpachi working together to finally beat him. 3. Nnoitora- Seriously, this was a guy who was far stronger than Grimmjow, an opponent Ichigo gave up almost all of his newfound power to beat. Even Ichigo at the time Chad encountered Nnoitora, wouldn’t have stood a chance. This Espada also forced Kenpachi to fight harder than he had in hundreds of years. Chad really just had poor luck of the draw. So yeah, to summarize, Chad isn’t weak. He’s insanely powerful. He just suffers from the Worf Effect. Chad’s losses are meant to demonstrate the danger of a new threat, not to paint Chad as weak. People tend to make the same mistake when shitting on Yamcha and Krillin in DBZ.

That's true, it's just that he's too headstrong for Ichigo to go along with it. Much like Ichigo himself, actually. "Switch now or you die!" (paraphrased) is hostile enough, but trying to force a switch in the middle of a battle (and thus distracting Ichigo from the fight... which is basically "switch now or die!") all but guarantees that Ichigo would never go along with it, especially after the "You try to keep me out, but I'm gonna get closer and closer, until I devour you entirely... and then everything that makes you _you_ will be gone!" spiel earlier on. A lot of it comes from him being a Hollow, and probably seeing that as casual danger dialogue, but it _really_ didn't help. Basically, it comes down to dumping Cha, then trying to pass a DC 50 Diplomacy check with a 20-sided die that has 1 on every side.

Notice how zangetsu forces ichigo to switch THE MOMENT yammy touches his sword, you know, Ira, the thing than throws his power up from bankai punching bag to 3 captains level. Probably as both hollow and zanpaktou he felt how dangerous this sword is and rushed to save ichigo before yammy would make there a bloodbath

It's not treated as such inside the plot itself, and by that logic Ggio Vega also has one, Yammy's resurrection ability is the angrier he gets the bigger and more powerful he gets, and that is just that. I read that there's suposed to be not only a increase of reiatsu in a segunda etapa but a change into the nature of the reiatsu itself, and he doesn't display any of that.
