Thank you for this presentation. I really enjoy the Traditional Yang style of Tai Chi.

I have just attended the Essential Form Seminar in the UK, it was an excellent experience and importantly for me, it provides a form that I can practice in the winter in the confines of my house. The long form I can only do uninterrupted in my garden, where I have enough space. So a big thanks.

I have practiced old yang for many years. I strongly support efforts to continue Tai Chi into every generation!

The Essential Form was created by Grandmaster Yang Jun in response to the needs of beginner tai chi students and the teachers who teach beginner classes. This shorter hand form of 22 movements includes most of the movements from the longer 103 Movement Traditional Form but is easier and faster to learn. Beginners often say that the Traditional Form takes too much effort to learn and they find it challenging to commit to an entire year to learn the form when their lives are already very busy. While the longer Traditional Form is still recommended for receiving the many benefits of practicing tai chi, the Essential Form allows beginners to complete an entire hand form in just a few months. Teachers may choose to teach the Essential Form as a prerequisite to the Traditional Form. Students who choose to continue afterwards and learn the Traditional Form will find it easier to learn and may be better prepared for the longer time commitment required. This may help increase student retention rates in tai chi classes. The Essential Form is highly suitable for tai chi classes taught in places such as gyms, clubs, businesses, or community programs that are looking for a shorter alternative to the Traditional Form. And since it only takes about 6 minutes to perform, the Essential Form is more suitable for public tai chi demonstrations and tai chi competitions.

Thank you for this wonderful form, I really enjoy the circular feel and love that it can be done in an area of only 1.8x2m. Even smaller if I play in a high stance.

I really like this new form! I especially like the "Wave Hands Like Clouds" execution in a non-linear manner. This is much more realistic for martial arts application. Master Yang Jun combined many of the movements from the Long Form without all the repetitions.

When a teacher hears a student say, "How wonderful", the teacher immediately leaves. This is because the student is paying attention to the sign post and not to the Way. Peace, Clyde Beury, Student of Yang Family Tai Chi

The Cloud Hands footwork is interesting. It kinda un-hides the fact that the backwards footwork in Repulse Monkey is actually used at an angle rather than straight back.

Wondering why "Snake creeps down" was not indicated as a separate form but was instead combined with the "Single whip" shown. If it was, then it would be called 23 forms, wouldn't it? :)
@TheSpeedoray6 жыл бұрын
Yang Cheng Fu referred to the posture as "squatting single whip".

Where does this form sit in relation to 16/103 form etc, or does it not?
@christianhoppe68556 жыл бұрын
As the title says: it's the essence (103 - the original long form, 16 - one of the shorter forms, but not with that many of the important postures from the 103 than the 22 form). Read the second Post (above) from Dennis Nepean. There is everything told that has to be said according to this new form. Thx to master Yang Yun for his patience in teaching and his never resting effort to promote Yang Family Taijiquan.

As a long-time student of External styles, I initially studied the long form( thank you Neil). 11 years on & I appreciate the "newer" forms. They add another dimension to my practice.

The form alone is not enough to be for fighting but it is a mandatory step. To become a martial artist with tai chi I think you need also to approach to the other steps. Tui shou for examples

So combined with 'pushing hands', then the stuff in the video becomes good for fighting?
