Went to game 4 with 3 best friends from high school. One had his drivers license for about a month. I had an awful ear infection. Guy sitting behind us, aggressive ‘maybe mafia’ guy, laughing his rear and off saying ‘you boys should have been here in 96, braves fan in upper deck mouthed off, we threw him down face first onto the concrete concourse, they had to take him out in a stretcher! We threw our beer on him. Hahaha!’….(terrifying man), then the Yankees clinched. Stadium went insane. We stuck around, Clemens came out wasted spraying champagne on the fans around the dugout. We got back to parking lot with 16 year old new driver and 55,000 trashed Yankee fans, and one buddy decided to stand on the roof of the car and surf, as an awful billy Joel parody ‘the Yankees are on fire’ blared on the radio…..amazing night/memory.

This was the peak of that Yankees dynasty. They ran over the other best team of the 90s like they weren't there. Beating those Braves teams like that wasn't an easy thing to do.

@ vr 81 - Unfortunately, winning 14 division titles only allowed the Braves (until very recently ) to be not just bad, but ROTTEN in the postseason, just rotten . . .

After the second game of the 1996 series a reporter from an Atlanta newspaper wrote that the Yankees didn't belong on the same field as the Braves. He went on to write that maybe the 1927 and the 1961 teams didn't either. I wonder what he had to say after the Yanks came back to win that series in 6 games and sweep the Braves in this series.

One of my favorite teams of all time. I grew up and got into sports watching The Yankees from 1996 on with my grandpa but I specifically remember this year and World Series.

Fun Fact: At this time, Jim Leyritz was only the 3rd player in MLB history to play back-to-back World Series for both the NL and AL.

A year after going hitless with he San Diego Padres, Jim Leyritz redeems himself by hitting a home run for the Yankees in 1999.

@Bread And Circuses What really made the Yankees dynasty from 1995-2004 so successful was that they got so many late inning clutch home runs (whether they won the series or not). Its just unreal how many clutch home runs they got in the postseason from 1995-2004. And of course, having a sensational bullpen with Mariano leading the way.

'98 was far better after winning 114 games during the season. They were the best team since Murderer's Row.

@@brandon_e23Exactly... Plus it was meant as a big compliment to him. Pointing out just how much of a disadvantage he was at growing up in Cuba compared to the average MLB prospect. Yet he dominated from day one which is truly an insane accomplishment when you think about it. I always interpreted the boat comment sounding a bit edgy as meant to highlight how amazing his story really was. Not to disrespect the man those same announcers spent all game fawning over. Some people today go looking for problems sadly.
