I hate to say it, but I feel the Yankees' closer situation has no easy answer until 2025. I doubt you can try someone else because you have a month until the postseason, and it's too big of a gamble throwing Weaver or Cousins into such a high-pressure role so late in the year. Also, there was really no better option available before the trade deadline, and they took a gamble hoping Holmes would sort it out and return to his old form, but it just hasn't happened. Even last night, in what looked like a cakewalk, it took a spectacular defensive play by Torres to close out a game that was quickly unraveling. Whether it's something mental or physical or otherwise, I really do hope Holmes can figure it out soon--it'd be a great redemption story for a pitcher who really does have good stuff, but it really is touch-and-go right now.

Meh. From a Rangers fan, NY's pen will either shape up or shape out in the postseason and you won't have to wait longer than the first series for the final result. On the other hand, you ARE correct that there really isn't a reasonable solution to the closer situation. I honestly think their only chance at fixing it is to push Weaver or Cousins into that position.. My bet is cousins if so..

The Orioles have had 12 opening-day starters on the IL (7 done for the year). The Orioles should be up by 8-10 games in the East. If you think it's bad now, wait until next year! I've never ranted about Yankee losses until now: relegate Holmes to mopping up situations only. He is mentally unfit to save games. While we are at it, I'm going to join in with the chorus of fans wanting Boone to be fired. He loses more games with his moves than wins them. We need a manager like Billy Martin who won more games with his moves than lost 'em. Back to Holmes: find someone else to close and fast.
