Indeed it was! That's why Somogyis are one of the most prized in the boutique guitar world, and commands such a hefty price tag. If you're interested to find out more about the guitar, the exact instrument is here: heirloomsmusic.sg/collections/boutique-guitars/products/ervin-somogyi-mod-d-revoiced-2016-quilted-mahogany

@@neilchanmusic I lived in Singapore from 1990 to 1995, there were already some incredible guitar shops, I bought a Martin and two Fenders there. Next time I go to Australia to see my daughters, I will stop in Singapore (I always travel with Singapore airline when possible) and I will go and have a look in this shop which looks, indeed, very exciting

Wow! I wonder what the guitar scene in Singapore must have been like back then. Definitely, this shop is one well worth visiting. I hope you can drop by soon! Do mention my name when you pay them a visit :) Oh and you also check out their guitar catalog on their website, the link is in the description!

I'm an electric guitar player BUT there is something really awesome about finger pickin an acoustic guitar ❗ So organic ‼️👍
@neilchanmusicАй бұрын
You're right! There's something special about hearing the warm sounds directly from the vibrations of the wooden soundboard. At the same time electric guitars have their own charm too. I performed at Singapore's first electric guitar festival yesterday. It was quite a blast :) Played a vintage Gibson ES350 from Heirlooms music.

Great selection of guitars there. You need to go back and try those Bedell guitars. He's a small guitar maker in the USA. From all i've heard they all sound amazing.

I know there are some good classical guitarists in Singapore. Maybe classical guitars are only sold in special shops. It will be interesting to see what is available.
@neilchanmusicАй бұрын
Yes there are many talented classical guitarists in Singapore, and I'm not one of them! Haha.. I'm an all out steel stringer, although I enjoy playing my flamenco guitar now and then. But yes you won't find many classical guitars at Heirlooms (although they do have a few nice ones from time to time!). You can search Tomas Music in Singapore, they have some really serious classical and flamenco guitars there.

Can u play a 12 string guitar?

Sure can, a 12 string plays pretty much like a normal 6 string

Some great guitars along with some misinformation. Boutique guitars are nearly always built by small factories/shops headed up by a luthier. Bourgeois for example make around 3-400 guitars every year. Dana Bourgeois oversees things but he doesn't build every guitar. Brazilian rosewood is CITES protected, but any wood harvested before the ban can be used to build a guitar. Some Brazilian will be reclaimed from furniture, but most was purchased as guitar sets.
@neilchanmusicАй бұрын
Thanks for clarifying! Yes you're right while 'boutique' guitars are relatively a lot smaller scale than mass produced ones, they also have their range of production scale. Bourgeois is a good example of a relatively larger one, and I also personally know many builders who literally build their guitars from scratch as a one-man-show. I will be talking about some of these actual one-man builders sometime soon!

I saw sth like ‘Banjuitar’. Are there any Banjos there too?
@neilchanmusicАй бұрын
Hey what's the time stamp that you saw the 'Banjuitar' you are referring to? Regarding banjos, I don't recall seeing one on my last trip there, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have one. But they don't actively stock banjos for sale, that I know. If they have a banjo it's probably a very limited number.

@@mutangpadan5311 Hi there, I've checked with Heirlooms directly. The banjo you see in this video is a 6-string banjo that belonged to the late Doc Watson (wow!) and is not for sale. However, they do have a pre-owned Deering Banjo that's going for a really good price at 580SGD. You can find it on instagram here: instagram.com/p/Cm9LWZcyaDv/?igsh=MWhqNHdvYzFuN3puYw==

are there any flamenco guitars there?... else the collections not complete
@neilchanmusicАй бұрын
Hey there, the collection at Heirlooms changes over time as guitars get sold and different ones come in. Over the years frequenting the store, I have seen a few flamenco and classical guitars. They are in the minority though, along with electrics, archtops, and other unique historical pieces as the store mainly specialises in steel string guitars.

They're expensive yes but often one-of-a-kind and a good investment. I paid a lot for my 1920 Martin 00-18 from Heirlooms but it's really given me so much joy and continues to do so. Plus a bonus is that it's value actually increases over time.
