The Edsel tailgate will come off very easily with a 1/2" socket. Just lift the back floor deck that covers the spare tire and you will see 4 bolts that hold each hinge. Remove those and it's off. Those tailgates are the same as is used on '57 and '58 Ford wagons and Rancheros so they are very desirable.

I know that it has been said a hundred times - but is worth repeating.....those Edsel tail lights were reported ( back in the day ) to be confusing to drivers that would be driving along behind the wagon. The confusion came from the fact that the "point" of the arrow pointed in the opposite direction that the turn signal was indicating.

Probably a dozen or more years ago I used to see a '58 Edsel 2 door wagon setting along Rt.23 going towards Columbus, Ohio,I stopped there once to look at it and the only glass that was left was the windshield, the engine was intact but most of the other parts were missing,last time I went through there it was gone.

The manual transmission in that Edsel is from a truck. Look at the shifter. It is a top plate type shifter input which wasn't used in cars. Cars used side input shifter linkage transmissions.

Sad to see that last c10 the 64-66 longbed and the Edsel wagon, although I'm a chevy person and everything I own is a chevy except my sexy 06 magnum wagon, I hate seeing classic wagons junked ,that one could have been fixed. But I never see any square body chevy trucks at junk yards here.

The early bull nose trucks had 9" ford rearend. Some even had the N nodular iron case carrier where ford cleared the shelves for incoming 8.8 axle parts. They did the same with the gt 40 heads on explorers v8's to clear shelves for triton parts

The Edsel wagon is a crazy mishmash. Data plate says it was a 6 passenger, but has a 9 passenger rear seat. Supposed to have a black and gold interior, but wears a blue interior instead. Looks like this 6 passenger wagon inherited a 9 passenger interior at some point. And obviously had a truck engine and tranny installed at some time. Someone put a lot of work into trying to keep this car alive.

As for the 1975 and 76 Valiant, Look for white turn signal light on the 1975 and orange on the 1976. the only minor difference. I didn't know Edsel used the Bermuda name on their wagon. That is the same name Willys used on their last sedans for the North American market in 1955.

@@joeschlotthauer840 I guess you guys just keep going over my old head. Are you complaining that there are still automotive junkyards around? Or are you complaining that many of them part out vehicles? Or is it that many of them simply crush their inventory, so that there are fewer and fewer vehicles that can be parted, or be restored? And in any of those things, I don't understand why there needs to be "Congressional hearings".

Edsels came out of the factory as ugly junk.
@todddenio3200
@todddenio3200 Жыл бұрын
Ugly is a matter of individual preference and some people consider them to be beautiful. As for them being junk, other than the electric push button shifter being a garbage design, the rest of the problems with them were caused by assembly line workers sabotaging them as they went down the assembly line because they were being built on the same assembly lines as the Fords and the workers hated having to stop to switch over to building an Edsel or 2 then switch back to building a bunch of Fords then switch over for a couple more Edsels.
