Nice tree, pull the mulch away from the trunk. The mulch will hold the water up against the trunk and make your beautiful tree rot.

Native American relics ? My sister lives near Tomaka State Park & we keep trying to get an RV spot there for the Airstream. I've studied up on the area history so you might have a great "dig site". Also near our home is Edisto State Park and there are many native American relics (shells) that we keep finding on our beach walks. Thanks for taking us along and look forward to next Sunday. I love that you're doing native plants period The Mist flower and passion vine both spread like crazy so you won't have to propagate anything, most likely. Also, when the butterfly larvae eat those plants to nubs, don't spray anything. I'm sure you know that part. Organic is the way to go! Keep up the fab work. Love your videos.

I'm in Florida, just north of Tampa - I find shells in my yard occasionally. I think they were used as part of fill because they were free. I add others to some flower beds, picked up from going to the beach over the years. Nice to have a space cleared out, one space at a time. Congrats on your Irene Tree and your books!

Re the shells,the fill on the property may have come from an Indian midden. A common fill source for that time. I recognize oyster and lightning whelk, common native American fare. This is Florida after all and shells are found everywhere due to repeated glacial cycles.
@CicadaAndCo
@CicadaAndCo 5 ай бұрын
Right, Ken. I think it was put down as fill dirt and we do have midden piles around the area. Or maybe when they dug out the basement. I've dug other areas and haven't hit anything like this before or since. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@CicadaAndCo Thanks for taking the time to respond. I just wanted to also say that I am an antique restorer so I loved looking at all the old furniture throughout the house. My favorite pieces, ones that didn't get enough video attention, were the marble top tables. They could be from 1880s or before and appear to be in good shape. If you ever revisit the furniture again would you please give them a couple of minutes? Thanks, Ken Brown ps: a propane weed torch will make short work of the ferns and a lot of other recurring yard problems.

So, further into the video you guys used "landscape fabric". Save your money. Its awful and in the long run is a nightmare. Weed seeds blow in and sprout from the top and the fabric becomes virtually impossible to remove, especially in flower beds. Might not be so incredibly bad in paths but definitely not good for flower beds.

Thanks for the tip! We weren’t planning on putting it in a bed, just that mulched area. It seems to be working ok there, so far. It’s been about 7 months since we put it down so I guess we’ll see how it goes. Luckily our dogs do a good job of keeping the paths cleared for us so probably no need to put anything else down👍😃🐶🐶

We had a non invasive bamboo, but after eight years the roots decided to do a walkabout in our garden and all of a sudden sprouts came up inside out house near the front door 😫 I had to pay men to dig it all up and I kept an eye on them so they wouldn’t forget a piece. It was a very costly mistake to plant bamboo. But for the rest I’m so enjoying your journey. Nice finds and 🎉 on the books..
