Later in this week of Cleveland's Upbeat Show appearance here The Yardbirds played my St. Xavier High School prom in Cincinnati, Ohio. Band was befuddled by kids dressed up in tuxedos picking them up at the airport. They put on a great performance for students who largely didn't know much about them. But we knew it was cool to have a big band at our prom. In October that year Jimmy Page formed Led Zeppelin, which only increased the coolness of our prom event.

Guitar Trivia. Jeff Beck gave Jimmy Page the Telecaster seen here. Jimmy painted it himself. The entire 1st Led Zeppelin album was recorded on that guitar. Jimmy also used this guitar for the "Stairway to Heaven" guitar solo (solo only). Must be some serious Zoso magick in that guitar :-)

There were many great groups on the Upbeat show. Otis Redding's last performance was on this program. Worth tracking down- video footage still exists in collectors markets.

The guitar playing you hear is not even Jimmy Page, it's Jeff Beck, lol. They just put Page in the shot to fill the video. Page is great, but that' sound is Beck playing....

What's with the knob on the Bass? It's '68 here, yet when Smithy played Bass til mid '66 the knob was missing back then. Must be a prized item.

Fashion moved so fast in the 60s. This could only have been ‘67 or ‘68. In ‘66 they would have been in suits, and by ‘69, nobody would be seen dead in that shirt. Everyone was in T-shirts and jeans by then.
