Great overview; don’t see YarizNo Hanzo getting covered very often so this side by side is certainly useful. Good showing for the price point and I think useful especially for our friends across the pond.

Great review brother and I’m glad you did these. I have a practical series I’m reviewing right now that is in between these two so it was cool to see the differences. One thing that might be worth mentioning mentioning (unless you did and I missed it) is the the Kuroda is 1060DH. You might not have took it to destruction but you still hit some pretty hard targets with it that some people would say 1060 isn’t suitable for so I think it’s worth mentioning. Excellent stuff as always. I like YariNoHanzo and their offerings. I wish there were more practitioner centric options like them.

Just a suggestion Matthew. Instead of using a hammer to fit the shitadome , use a pair of channel locks to gently snap it in to place. Just make sure you apply even pressure and put a cloth or something between tool and shitadome.

My man has called himself a "novice" for 5 years. Also that $120 ito looks miles better than in a $3000 sword you reviewed a few years ago. Just goes to show its ALL about the manufacturer / forge / craftsmen, not the price.

Good job, wow they really produce the quality of the build, strickly to the selling price, as shown between each sword

I own a custom daisho from em. Its neat. Paid around 1500 for the pair. Golden ito, meji era dimensions, ō kissaki, kogai etc. And swirly mitsudome.

Good showing. Weird how much edge damage the budget model took.

I does suck that companies in the US & Europe have that shipping/import cost barrier. I remember back in the early 2000s Lutel, a Czech company, has a Swiss 2-handed saber (essentially like a German Messer) I really liked but cost doubled due to shipping making a mid tier cost sword be essentially high end cost .. I couldn't afford one nor am I sure the additional cost would have been justified.

I got 2 yari no hanzos myself! Both excellent. Only negative thing i can say is that the polish is not so nice...everything else, especially the koshirae and menukis are nice!

In my school everyone used to have their swords, until some of us had bad experience with them. Then basically doing a bit of research we came to conclussion they were just ordering the swords to chinese makers and selling them as their own. Can't confirm, but they offered the same fittings and services for blades etc as some chinese makers we know. A friend of mine even ordered one exactly like the one in YariNoHanzo but in another website. But way cheaper. (Around 100€ less) So, after that and having less than optimal customer support (a sword broken doing tatami cut in a model specified for cutting tatami, and then they refused to help and changed the item description even after we got a screenshot) we never ordered from them again.

I have reviewed a few RyandSwords over the years. You should have some idea of what to expect in terms of quality. I don't have any plans to review that tachi.

Those tsukas are really awful compared to any Japanese iaito. Can’t understand why Chinese blade makers don’t prioritize the interface of the sword more.

Shitodome should have never been a thing in the first place. They are useless and on most swords they are loose anyway. Especially on the saya.
