Pakistan didn't buy China's Type 056 corvette because it's too light only 1500-1800 tons. China has better Type 054A frigate with 4,200 toms but much bigger and expensive. So, this Yamook is just nice in between

Speed matters for ASW, faster ship can cover more area within a time. ASW is all about numbers and areas covered.

On a related note, without a stern-mounted sonar of some sort, its ASW potential is probably not great. I don't know anything about the side sonar module (and still not confirmed if it will get it for sure), but usually a ASW patrol ship will need a two-tailed system (TASS and VDS). The helicopter will do good work though, of course.

These aren't for ASW, for ASW Pak is equipping modified MILGEM class frigates. These will be equipped with Harbah NG and P282.

I find it funny as hell how many nations in the world justify their new ships with the idea that they will be used to fight piracy in the gulf of Aden....seriously ..... its in every press release about a new ship, new base, new weapons. Meanwhile the Pirates ...well we have all seen pictures of. Maybe all the nations of the world should forgo one ship and make all the Pirates millionaires prob solved!
