Thanks for the tip, Summer! I have a few of the blocking mats that you can pick up at Michael’s, and a set of kids play mats that I don’t really like. I’ve had the Knit Picks set in my shopping cart many times, but can’t justify the $40 +/-. I followed the link in your video description box and saw the $18 set at Amazon. Then I followed the other link to Harbor Freight. I had never heard of them, so I was very surprised to find out that there is a store just a few miles from my house and they had the mats in stock. After work today I went over there and I picked up two sets for $8.99 each! I am so happy! Thank you so much.

Good morning Summer. These mats are great. I've thought about using the same idea with the mats under the tents too. There are a lot of cool things to get at HFT that can be used in the craft room like; storage bins for buttons, beads and bobbins, cutting blades for rotary cutters to cut fabric, para cord, and magnetic parts/tool holder for pins. One of the things I have my eye on is the wood tool chest. I want to use it for my crochet and knitting needles, etc. Some women use it as a jewelry box. Many women like to shop here. I hope ya'll have a fun and relaxing camping trip.

Hi Summer!! I consider these a necessity for crocheting. I bought some the really large foam pads for my large projects like shawls and wraps. I don’t block everything but I have blocked acrylic 🧶💕🧶

I got my giant blocking squares from Costco, I believe 6 to a package. They're reasonably priced and great for projects like shawls and sweaters.

I totally got some too at our Home Depot but I also have some camping mats which I’d forgotten about. They are curled (like a yoga mat) but once flat they’d cover a good space of the floor. And we have 5 campers in our family! 😄👍🏼

I went thrifting one day awhile back, I found a set of kids playmats , that hook together. A set of 12, for $3! I grabbed those up! My husband was confused lol I told him, “blocking mats!”

Omg! That’s the best deal ever. So I’m in Minneapolis and I guess we have a harbor freight in Bloomington. I had no idea that store even existed. I looked online it’s available only in store. Guess where I’m going after work tomorrow. Thanks for the great tip. Wish I didn’t pay the big bucks for the other mats.

I have some children’s play mats that I purchased for blocking. Interesting note: I was checking on Amazon some time ago for play mats, and a large percentage of the reviews were from crafters who purchased the mats for blocking. If you are worried about colors bleeding from the mats onto you project, you can put a towel, or two, down first.

Awh, wonderful! I wanted to block my throw prior to gifting, but didn't have blocks and esp. One large enough. I must check into this more economical larger mat from harbor freight! Thank you! 🇺🇸🥰

Aren't you a teacher? We have been buying these since 1976. Started off with the ones for babies and quicly moved on to the "garage flooring foam mats" because of the pricing. We still got the colorful ones that teach the alphabet and stuff, but as long as it was not harmful, we expanded the "play areas" with these. They even have the straight edge pieces. It is funny that what seems like common knowledge to some, is completely unknown to others. Your tips are great. You can also get neck lights and snake lights at places like Harbor Freight for less than a craft store. Your sister makes jewelry. She should look for some of those tools at the hardware stores as well. Craftsman and the like can be pricey but hold up really well with guarantees. In the long run, tools marketed toward beaders and crafters are way more expensive.

Great idea! I'm not much on blocking however that's a great price. I do believe the Knit Picks one has the inches marked on them, however that could be easily done. Have a great time camping. Happy 4th of July! 🎉🎉🎉

I love my blocking mats from Amazon with the grid lines to help block in straight lines, but for larger blocks at $8.99 at Harbor Freight I'm sure I can find a way to keep my edges straight. Those would be great for larger shawls that I usually have to block in 2 or 3 sessions.

They should be heat resistant also if you are steaming crochet or knit on the mat. I know the ones from Joann’s are. Can you steam on the HFT floor mats?

Very good TIP to know that Harbor freight carries them ☺️ How long are you going camping for? Ugh we went every year when I was growing up and I didn't like it then and don't like camping to this day. I can handle a day or two but any more than that and I'm ready to go home. Have fun with your family Summer
