A great crochet hack and tip for all your beginner crochet projects! You just need a sharpie / marker, your yarn skein, and this neat crochet tip to turn your yarn skeins into hand made yarn cakes. These can be center pull or pulled from the outside. Making yarn cakes ahead of time will save you from the knotted horror of tangled yarn noodles. My skeins ALWAYS fall apart on me mid project. Taking a bit of time to make a hand wound yar cake before I start my project saves me from a lot of wasted time and frustration struggling with a knotted mess. My project goes smoothly and the whole experience is happy and tangle free.

Thanks! It does take a while.🙄 lol. But truly faster than the time it takes to untangle the knots from balls or cakes that come undone.

it's so much easier and less clumsy to do the same thing on your own index finger, or start with two fingers and then go to 1 - careful when you put your index finger back in the hole don't have to slip it all the way out, you can cross some yarns and it might be a little bit hard to center pull - and after you start doing the bottom to top motions, rotate it on your finger. Once it begins to get a little bit tight, because of the outer layers being wrapped around it and with the speed at which you begin to do it it will get tighter because you Stretch your yarn's elasticity to the max If you have much grip on it while you're twirling, which will give you flattened yarn that is different and a bit harder to work with and can cause your garment to be the smaller than planned and after washing, your stitches may also be smaller, Anyway, once it begins to get snug It's a reminder to loosen your grip and continue after you slip yur ball/cake closer to your fingertip. By the way, if you take the first four or five inches of your yarn and twist the free end While holding at the five inch mark with your other hand and then fold it exactly in half it will produce a twisted stem to your little apple that you're gonna make when you begin to make your little cake ball of yarn or whatever you call it. lay this along your index finger and hold it down with your thumb while you begin wrapping it round your finger completely cover the knuckle and a 1/2 an inch to an inch above and below the middle knuckle of your finger. Once you get started real good and it's pretty substantial you can take it off your finger and hold it with the center access tilted a little bit and it will give you the perfect orbital wrapping surface and you just need to continue to twist it in your hand to keep wrapping it to make it look like a professional job or like you have a machine.

It sure does! Thanks for sharing that. I chose this method because of my storage options, my space, and how I crochet. I like how these don't bounce around as much as the balls. 💕

Is there a benefit to making these instead of balls? :D
@WithLoveLeisha
@WithLoveLeisha Жыл бұрын
Good question! I personally find that balls roll around too much, specially if I'm using the outside end. With a cake the rolling around is lessened. I also like how neatly the cakes sit stacked if I have to store them. So I guess it's just personal preference, what works best for you.😊💕
