The Meijers store in Corunna. MI does not have much yarn either. The JoAnne fabric store went out of business. The Walmart here has some yarn

I’m a Michigan native (Meijer’s home state) who was living in Chicago for the last five or so years. There is no Meijer in the city of Chicago though there are some within IL and when I got back to MI I was kind of in shock of what happened to Meijer all around. I have such fond memories of shopping there all my life. My dad and I were always night owls so would shop in the middle of the night. Obviously Covid changed that and I still can’t get over Meijer not being open 24 hours. My dad is also the one who taught me to knit (and say crochet was too hard. Lol). I’m sure we used to get out yarn at Meijer. If anything I remember a time where it felt like they really expanded out their craft section and I don’t know since I was away but coming back about a year ago- I couldn’t even find the craft section at one of the two Meijer in my city for the longest time. That store the section is literally a single short aisle now. The other is more like yours though may have even less yarn. I’m not even sure because I don’t actually shop there much for anything now because I was so disappointed. And there’s an actual locally owned little grocery chain in my part of SE MI I like for general groceries. I do know my stores haven’t been remodeled any within the last year but that they both look basically the same (years back a friend of mine who worked within Meijer management told me their aim was to make their stores more identical) and that’s considerably different from what I remember 6 years ago. So maybe those remodel efforts that just hit your area began with their MI stores. Either way. I don’t like it. Especially what they did to the craft aisle. Little bit of rambling or oversharing but ugh, as I said, I used to love Meijer and it was one of the major things I looked forward to when I came back to MI. I went to a Walmart recently and eh, they also used to have a far larger craft area and my store had very newly been remodeled so things were extra wonky with the crafts. But much better selection than Meijer and the best prices I’ve seen on yarn anywhere. They sell Mandala yarns for less than what Joann’s has been selling them on clearance! Same with Wool Ease. And while I don’t think they really carry the Lily Sugar & Cream, they have their own “Peaches & Cream” and I saw lots of the larger spools (I’m blanking on the right word!) of that. I don’t usually use a lot of that type of yarn but almost bought some on the big spool because the price was fantastic. So if you don’t usually shop Walmart or haven’t been in their yarn aisle- I recommend it.

I have a lot of fond memories shopping at Meijer growing up as well. Two of my sisters worked there at teenagers too. I've always preferred going to Meijer over Wal-Mart. I was really sad to see the scaled down crafting section. I haven't been to Wal-Mart in some time, but I'm planning a trip there this summer and I'll check out their yarn supply. I've used their 100% cotton yarn before (I got it from my mother-in-law) and I liked working with it just as well as the Lily Sugar and Cream yarn. Your Meijer has more yarn than mine here in Indiana. I was surprised to see knitting needles and crochet hooks by the yarn my doesn't 😢 have any.

Oh, wow!! I'm so sorry to hear they don't have any of that kind of stuff! Has your Meijer recently undergone remodeling like ours has? I was very surprised as how much the craft section has shrunk, but now I'm VERY thankful for what we do have!
