That time-lapse was so awesome to watch, the color transitions were really satisfying. I want to get a winder for my really chunky yarns, it would make knitting and crocheting more easier with a cake instead of a huge ball that you constanly need to turn around.

The small rubber grommet on the long arm, push it to the elbow. It will stop the sound of the arm hitting your table. Also, you might want to tighten the screw so the arm doesn't move toward you as the yarn passes through it. I have a standwood one, that is similar.

I love that you found one that wasn’t $150.00! Super excited for using with my spinning my new electric wheel can spin 8 Oz or more, the only jumbo winders I found were wood and expensive. To see it wind a cake of XL! Yay

I have this ball winder and I do like it. I cut a drink koozie in half and placed it between the table and the base and bent it around the edge of the table and between the screw plate to protect the table. Also, I put some tape on the yarn end on top so that when I take it off the spindle it doesn't get swallowed-up in the middle of the cake. Happy Winding!

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! I bought this winder after doing no research and I was having the same problem you had with the white yarn where there would be all of the extra on top and I could not figure out why! Going to test this out now

Great review! Thanks for testing it with bulky yarn, since that is what is motivating me to shop for a new winder. This one was recommended by a friend and it looks like it will do the trick. My current winder is wonderful for anything up to worsted, but doesn't handle the bulkier weights at all.

We saw this video an my partner immediately said order this! (Yes he bought it...so he doesn't have to untangle all my skeins!) Anyway it came quickly for the sale price and I love it. Thank you so much for recommending it!

Based on recommendations from the community, I purchased the Stanwood for about $75. I love it. And yours looks incredibly similar in materials and shape. A hack I made: Replaced that tiny washer with a larger diameter one. Keeps the arm from vibrating out of place. Glad you got one and like it! 🖤🖤🖤

Very helpful, ty. :). I have been working at untangling a jumbo skein of chenille bulky yarn and just want to throw the rest of this skein away. I need up my tangle control with a DIY creel made from lefter flower stuff, but still have three large skeins of this chenille left and I think it will suck way less if I cake it. Didn't know there were multiple sizes of yarn winders, thanks to your vid I know to get the large one. :)

Is there any way to fit a paper towel cardboard roll cut in half on the yarn winder to make it easier to remove the yarn from the spindle to keep it from pulling out in the center? If dont it before with the smaller ones. I used a wrapping paper cardboard tube and cut it down to fit the winder.
@mariaelenasantora87963 жыл бұрын
put some felt on it so it doesn't scratch---i'm going to go get one both the smaller one n that one it's good 2 have both 4 different yarns
@oakstrong13 жыл бұрын
I gave noticed that the stated yarn weight for finders is always the absolute maximum. Also, I noticed with my big winder that I had to slow down the winding when the cake became bigger because of the weight- balance.

Yassss! I have mine from U-Nitt from Amazon and it was like $45. Totally worth $45 lmao. Plus I can cake bernat blanket, granted I did have to spit it up twice.

If you want to keep your wrapper roll it up and when you take your yarn out put in on the top of the winder when you pull the yarn out and it stays in the hole so you can keep with the yarn .

I don't know why but I fully expected you to spray paint it black and do a reveal if you liked it! haha Seriously though, it kind of looks like a nightmare to fully disassemble; I wouldn't blame you if you put it off til you were in juuuuust the right mood. Thank you so much for buying and reviewing it! I'm not the one who asked, but I *was* in the livestream chat when you said you would, so I really want to thank you for keeping to the commitment and making a video on it so soon! I now know what I'm putting on my wishlist for the holidays. I have been wanting a larger one for a really long time but some of them are SO big, and SO expensive and this one seems perfect for its price point. You rock. You're really sweet and authentic in your lives, you always come through with honest opinions in your reviews, your tutorials are easy to understand and follow: I really can't say enough about Alt Knots. 🖤

just got mine today, but the skein I wound didn't have a center pull. It's Big Twist Soft. It's a wonderful machine, but I had to unwind a section from the skein, then wind/cake on the winder, stop, and repeat. It took a very long time and it was frustrating. But, the cake wound perfectly on the winder. Great tension, an I'm thrilled with the end result. But I can't find any info or suggestions to help with skeins without a center pull. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for the great video. 🙂
@AltKnots2 жыл бұрын
That's good to know. I've yet to try it with different variations of big twist so I'll keep that in mind when I do. As for suggestions, when I find a better way to avoid yarn vomit I'll totally let everyone know🎃

Putting a small piece of felt between the metal clamp and your table can help with not damaging the table.
@oakstrong13 жыл бұрын
A couple of suggestions. 1. Put a bit of non-slip foam (as used on food trays and camping trailers) If you can. It will protect your table and can even improve the grip. 2. Put a toilet roll tube Hoover the bobbin or tape a piece of cardboard or the yarn band tightly around (the bobbin). This will make taking the yarn off the bobbin and ensure the tension of the cake is not too tight. You might have to make sure the toilet tube will turn with the winder a few rounds but after that it's not a problem. Once you have removed the cake from the winder, pull off the cardboard and the cake relaxes just enough not th stretch the yarn. I think it is especially important when you are not using the yarn straight away. 3. You might want to keep the yarn band in the cake for reference. In that case, rolll the yarn band and put it on top of the centre of the bobbin. Then slide the cake off and over the roll of yarn band. 4. When you are ready to take the cake ofc the bobbin, pull ip the yarn that is in the goove first and attach a piece of card to the end to make your own easy start.
