This is really great! Thank you for putting this together. Learned a lot about NHL goalie level positioning and decision making!

Good analysis! I think he’s a couple seasons out from being a starter. I think he will get in a few games this year and possibly tradition to the full backup if either Blackwood or Vanacek get traded.

I completely agree. I feel like he will get a healthy amount of starts this year to keep him happy and because they have nothing to lose. His potential is extremely high and I think when he finally makes a breakthrough he will ascend the goalie ladder rapidly but he’s not there yet.

Eh he probably plays more than a few. Big reason why he requested a trade was he believes he is nhl ready now and wouldn't report to Milwaukee
@NoSuccGaming
@NoSuccGaming 2 ай бұрын
@@camc9225 He wouldn't report to Milwaukee because of the situation ahead of him signing both Saros and Wedgewood. He was forced to the AHL not on merit but on being blocked. In San Jose, both NHL goalies are expiring this year so if he does not earn an NHL job this year it will be on his readiness and he will report to the Barracuda knowing next year he will at worst be the backup, if not starter.

@camc9225 Wrong. He is willing to play for the Cuda. Signing with us presents a path where his path isn't blocked by 8 years of Saros and 2 years of Wedgewood. He is at least a back up next season

@@NoSuccGaming I think he's going to be the backup by the end of the season but I do expect him to play in the AHL a little. GMMG even hinted at that being the case in his press conference.

Would’ve liked to see behind the net camera angles on the goals if you had them. On the first you criticize him for looking over a screen (which you should do) but in the next clip you say he’s tracking it well through a screen (by looking over it again). Looks like he could’ve kept his body tighter on the first goal, but the guy is also all alone in front. The second, you’re right, looks like he could’ve anticipated better (I’m sure he will as he gets more experience) and maybe didn’t move smoothly. The behind the net camera angle would’ve helped there. Excited for this guy! The super aggressive puck playing makes me nervous lol but hopefully he’s good enough at it

I do actually consider this and like a behind the net angle a lot. Typically when I watch goalies I look for a behind the net angle on the goals to better understand what happened, it’s just that it can be a hassle to make it work given the video software I get the footage from but I will look into it.

Also yes I see how it can be a little counterproductive from switching from the first goal to the next clipI guess I could have made it more clear. On the goal it’s more of the combination of how he was scrambling and threw his body way up and then immediately had to go back down. In the next clip, while I still hate when goalies look over people, he did find it much easier and by the time the shooter got the puck he was engaged more. I think of it like a good result but a somewhat inefficient process.

@@creaseanalysis I was always taught to look over a screen because it’s easier to see, but I see what you mean on the first goal. Not sure what he could have done, maybe just approach the play a bit calmer (which will probably come with more experience). At the end of the day it didn’t look like a horrible rebound to me, just the guy was right there with no defenders, but Askarov may have been in a better position to recover if he wasn’t jumpy like you’re saying. I wasn’t sure what camera angles you had access to, but yeah I love the behind the net cam, even during the live feed lol I guess it’s just the goalie pov. Thanks for making goalie content!

You should do Thomas Milic and Domic Divincentis

These are good suggestions for the future! I am a big fan of Milic but I haven’t seen Divencentis play before.

Temper expectations and utilize the " one step at a time" approach.
@creaseanalysis
@creaseanalysis 2 ай бұрын
@@stevenvicijan4338 “out of the frying pan and into the fire” approach isn’t a good one for goalies so they can’t throw him to the wolves yet. It’s a shame it never worked out for him in Nashville because it would have been much easier for him to step into that situation than in San Jose.

No rebound recovery to talk about because he is in a split after most saves. The dramatic style is to much. Less is more. Still makes some spectacular saves and sure has some fans. But the difference compared to Saros who makes the game look easy and no drama, like it should be when playing it correct it is like a pro vs youth.

He reminds me.or Mrazek by sliding way out of his net on lateral Attempts and that ovi goal would of been anticipated by a 13 year old. I think this kid is way overhyped and full of himself.hoe dare a prospect who hasn't played more then 60 minutes of NHL action in a real game. He like any young prospect made plenty of dumb moves in that game and not expecting the one time ovi goal Clearly he forgot to do his homework. And goalies that catch with the right hand tend to be not as successful as goalies who catch with the left hand and that's a wierd stat and it's probably because it's uncommon and the the numbers are low. Anyways I think he has what it takes but as superstar?? It's doubtful by what I saw so far

Grier already said he was willing to report to the Barracuda. Think long and hard why he would sign with an org where both the starter and backup have one year left on their deals instead of an org with their starter signed for 8 and the back up for 2
