Ahh interesting. It is a big part of the game so you might still like it, unless you don't like platformers or metroidvanias then you wouldn't haha.

Eh...so little lore? Yars Revenge kinda has a LOT of lore. Darn near the origin of video game lore. I'm also curious what you mean about referencing "past entries in the series"? Do they mention a Baryargler anywhere? I'm sorry, I love WayForward's original works but when they tackle an existing franchise it often comes off as disrespectful. I don't like stealth so the ENTIRE reason I'm interested in this game is the lore but the fact that it has so many humans in it bothers me. Yars Revenge is about mutant flies in space, not humans. I mean I can see Emi is probably Half-Yar or something or gains a Yar form but...yeah...it doesn't help that I'm REALLY attached to the Yars Revenge XBLA game which came to a VERY abrupt end. I absolutely adored the Yar in that game, especially her Hanar-esque way of speaking, making her sound more like an alien from a hive-like society. I'll be grabbing it as soon as I can but as someone who belts out the entirety of the song "Fly Yar Warriors Fly" on the regular? I'm...nervous. ... ...that and no joke I was JUST about to do a Yars Revenge deep lore video before this game got announced. So I kinda have to play it to find out if it CAN fit into the existing lore or if it should be considered an AU.

There's a lot to unpack in your comment so I'll respond to the things I can confirm to you with certainty. There's ties to the older games for sure, having not played them all I won't speak beyond that. There are humans yes as shown and in the beginning that's the focus but it is not devoid of the mutants in space. I steer clear of spoilers and that comes later in the game. As far as the stealth goes, don't let that turn you off. I don't like stealth either and it's really simple here and not a huge part of the overall experience. This game is very Wayforward-esque so if you don't like their style then you probably won't like it. But it sounds to me like you're a big Yars fan and the hacking mini-games felt very Yars to me at least.
