She’s butthurt that their films aren’t working. Even her husband is a filmmaker cum producer and delivered some big hits but their formulas aren’t working. Atleast, not as good as Pan Indian films from the South. Leave Pan India, their films aren’t working where they are supposed to atleast i.e. the Hindi states. If any film does well in Hindi states or states except the south, film can easily make 200-250 cr. They are not even reaching that milestone lately. There is a disconnect between filmmaker’s and the ‘theatre going audience’. I specifically say ‘theatre going audience’ cos no one goes to a hall to watch ‘’Geharaiyyan’ or ‘Kapoor & Sons’. They come to hall to watch something like a Dabbang or Dangal. Films like G can always be enjoyed on OTT or small screen.

If the story doesn't demand any such role, why do you expect a forced female character just to satisfy your Feminist urges? Plus, the mother's character, as Yash said, is the main point of the movie. But still you say "it's a small and insignificant role". So aren't you the ones who are pushing down the female character? Not the director or the movie. A story needs characters and the director casts whoever is suitable irrespective of their gender. If you want to watch a movie about feminism or full of female characters, go for it.
