I was so excited to use this camera that this video was filmed the same night the camera came in the mail! This was also my first time shooting on black and white film, and in 6x6 format. I can't wait to shoot and experiment more with this camera!! What are your thoughts on this camera? Do you like TLR cameras?

My dad bought one when I was about 10. He had me developing in the darkroom at 5. I'm 54 now. When he slowed on it, I commandeered it and used it for many years. Till I got a Bronica GS1, I still have both. It's a great camera.

Good video. Just to note that the film is 120 film not 120mm film. The number comes from the numbering process for new film formats instead of a size. For example 35mm film is referred to as 135 film but is actually 36mm by 24mm instead of 35mm in size, that is a misconception regarding the size of 135 film. Keep up the good videos.

Fun video! I used a 124G in the 1980’s as a backup camera for wedding photography. The nearly silent shutter was perfect for shots during the ceremony. I recently nabbed a Mamiya C220 TLR and have been having a blast using it. I should do some autumnal shots of my wife with it… your video has inspired me to do so. Take care.

The lens on these is as good as anything I have used. No vibration so you can slow the shutter right down. I use Portra160 and 20” square prints are a knockout.

Trevor! Did you know Davy Crockett Used one of these Yashica cameras during the siege of the Alamo in 1836!? Using just one roll of Kodak Eastman 5222 black and white 35mm motion picture film he shot enough sprocket holes to stave off General Santa Anna and his army of 2000 men for THIRTEEN DAYS! Thank you so much for sharing! More people need to learn about the Yashica and its rich AMERICAN history of nearly 200 years. I had two YashicaMat 124G and sold them several years ago and then repurchased one, had it CLA’ed by Mark Hama and it works like new. These cameras are amazing and if you have one with a working light meter it’s even better. Also, having the Mamiya C330 and a Rolleiflex, I can say there are a lot of advantages to the YashicaMat 124G, it’s often a newer camera than a Rollei, they are small and lighter than a Mamiya C330 and have a light meter. The YashicaMat 124G is very capable. Congrats on your camera!!

It's imperative to use a lens shade for this camera as well as flocking the interior to reduce reflections. Shooting into the light is to be avoided. Moreover, 400 Delta is usually better shot at 300 or even 200.

Thanks, great video, very hard to find this kind of information in tutorials and videos for this camera model... Regarding the operation of the camera when being used... I wanted to find out how far does the crank turns, specifically at advancing the film to the next frame and I can confirm by your sequences between shoots that it is half a turn. Thanks for showing your photoshoot in the processes of demonstrating the use of the camera. Beautifully done!

Great job with the photos. You did your girlfriend proud with those pix. I bet she has as much fun watching you play with your toy as you did playing with it. Years ago, at Yokota AB, Japan, I had one and took many photos of my daughter and friends. That square format made it easy to crop when making B&W prints. Do you make your own B&W prints using an enlarger and photo paper or scan them? Back in my days, I did the whole routine, develop and print. I hope you get a chance to do it if you don't already.
