Summary(Important Notes) of The Stories of The Prophets- 10. The Proofs of Prophethood The Proofs of Prophethood is a genre that many scholars have written on, this includes the scholars of other sects of Islam. The Qur’an is very explicit with several key points of Prophethood and we can derive others. A. The Qur’an is very explicit that the Prophets come with “بينات”(something self-evident) and “آيات”(sign). Fakh-rud-Deen Ar-Razi is a great scholar of Islam who defined later coined the term ‘miracle’. He says that a miracle has: 1. It breaks the natural order of things. 2. The Prophets come and mention that they are going to do a miracle. 3. No one can imitate that miracle. Allah uses the two words interchangeably in the Qur’an. He mentions their concept in many Ayahs: 1. Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayah 92. 2. Surah Al-Maida, Ayah 32. 3. Surah Tawbah, Ayah 70. The miracles are not ambiguous and they are simply too great to be denied. This is why when such miracles were demonstrated in front of the people, then Allah did not give choices to them. They had to believe or they would be destroyed. Some examples are the she-camel sent to Thamud, the numerous miracles given to Isa(AS), the staff of Musa(AS), and the power of Sulayman(AS) over the Jinns. Every Prophet came with miracles. The Prophet(SAW) said, “No Prophet has ever come except that he has been given “آيات” signs through which and because of which mankind believed in him or should believe in him. And what Allah has given me is the revelation which He has inspired on me and I hope, therefore, I shall have the largest number of followers on the Day of Judgement.” The miracles of the Prophets are breaks of nature and when you see them, you realize that no other person can do these things. But the magic of magicians typically affects an individual or it is just an illusion. There is no ambiguity between magic and miracles. The miracles are typically tailored to the people they were sent for so that they can marvel at their amazingness. For example, the people of Thamud were very skilled at carving houses out of mountains so Allah, in front of them, created a living she-camel from a rock. Another example is Isa(AS) who was given unnatural curing abilities because the Romans[whom he(AS) was sent to] prided themselves on their medical advancements. Similarly, the Quraysh prided themselves on poetry and eloquence and so the Qur’an comes down and supersedes their eloquence. The Miracles can be divided into two categories - a. Major Miracles - These are the miracles that are meant to affirm the truth of the Prophet’s Prophethood and legitimize his claims. For example, nine clear signs were given to Musa(AS) - hand becoming bright, staff turning into a serpent, famine, shortage of food, flood, locusts, lice, frogs, and blood. b. Minor Miracles - The miraculous doings of the Prophet which are not meant to prove that he is a Prophet. For example, other miracles that Musa(AS) got - the splitting of the Red Sea, Manna and Salwa, etc. We also believe that a small miracle can happen to a righteous person, these are called “كرامات الأولياء”. They are different from miracles given to the Prophets. These are also from a different category than the miracles of the Prophets. These do not come with the whim of the person, it is unannounced. The miracles of the Prophets come after being commanded by Allah and the Prophets announce them. The righteous people who are not Prophets cannot know when the blessings(small miracles) will happen. B. The Qur’an is very explicit that the Prophets have knowledge that we do not have and that might be impossible for other people to know. 1. In the Qur’an, Isa(AS) said, “I will tell you what you are hiding in your houses.” 2. In the Seerah, the Prophet(SAW) said things that no one knew how he could have known. For instance, the uncle of the Prophet(SAW) who was not a Muslim at the time - Abbass(RA) - was taken as a Prisoner of War. The Prophet(SAW) said, “We need to get a ransom for you.” He said, “I don’t have any money. Ask your aunt.” The Prophet(SAW) then described the conversation in which Abbass had told his wife where he had hidden his gold in the middle of the night. C. The Qur’an is very explicit that the Prophets have extraordinary behavior and conduct. Their characters were so noble and exemplary that it is miracle in itself. D. The Qur’an is very explicit that the message with which the Prophets come is pure and has no contradictions. When you examine the message they come with, you find it so pure and simple that you realize that this has to come from Allah. E. The Qur’an is very explicit that some of the Prophets have divine protection. This is not for all the Prophets, but some of the Prophets have this and our Prophet(SAW) is one of them. Allah vows to protect the Prophet(SAW)’s life in the Qur’an and this has been demonstrated multiple times in the Seerah. F. The Qur’an is very explicit that some of the Prophets were foretold by the previous Prophets. The best example of this is the Prophet(SAW) himself. In the Qur’an, the Prophet Isa(AS) predicted the coming of the Prophet(SAW) and he(AS) gave them signs to look for. The Old Testament has numerous sayings about a Prophet that will be from their brethren and will resemble Musa(AS). This ends the entire summary. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

Just curious does that mean jinn or even angels don't have supernatural powers like when people witness them (not sure if people witnessed Angels doing supernatural things)? I thought Allah gave them those powers of course they aren't the miracles like the prophets (maybe not the same level??) done Allah gave them that power I hope you understand what I'm asking Just to clarify black magic is just an illusion & not real?
