Summary(Important Notes) of The Stories of The Prophets- 4. The Prophets Named in The Quran Part 2 Personal note: السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته This is Part-2 of the summary. Part 1 is commented in a different comment as the summary is too long to be commented on in one comment. The other comment is also in this comment box. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... Who are the people on whom the scholars do not agree in regards to their Prophethood? I. Dhul-Kifl - Ibn Katheer mentions him in the list but even he is not very sure about the Prophethood of Dhul-Kifl. Ibn Katheer says that Dhul-Kifl most likely is a Prophet according to a lot of the Muffassirs. He is mentioned twice in the Qur’an: (i) Surah Al-Anbiya, Ayah 85. Allah mentions Dhul-Kifl along with Idrees(AS) and Ismail(AS). (ii) Surah As-Saad, Ayah 48. Allah mentions Dhul-Kifl along with Ismail(AS) and Al-Yasa’a(AS). The adjectives - Nabi, Rasul, Nazeer - were not mentioned for Dhul-Kifl. However, he is mentioned along with two Prophets in each case and so he can be a Prophet by association. This opinion is not unanimous. One of the reasons that some people do not like calling Dhul Kifl a Prophet is that there happens to be an atypical narrative in the Hadith literature that says that a man named Kifl was an evil man who did some bad things and then repented to Allah. But this does not match with Allah’s description of Dhul Kifl in the Qur’an. So two things can be said about the Hadith: (i) It is deemed by many scholars to be very weak and Tirmidhi calls it “غريب”. (ii) The man’s name is Kifl and not Dhul Kifl and so, he is a different person. There are 2 main opinions about Dhul-Kifl- 1. He is not a Prophet - Reason: He is not called one in the Qur’an. 2. He is a Prophet - Reason: He is mentioned among Prophets in the Qur’an. There are two different opinions here: (i) He is a Prophet but not the 25th one because Dhul-Kifl is a description(just like Sahib Al-Hut) and not a name. The Prophet’s real name is Yunus(AS). Others say that this is Hazekeel from the Old Testament. (ii) He is a Prophet and it is a different person. This seems the most possible one but Allah knows best. II. Dhul-Qarnayn - Perhaps the most controversial topic and has produced a lot of discussion and research both within and without our faith. There has been an effort to link him to many historical figures but there is also a possibility that his story was erased from history books over time. He is mentioned only once in the Qur’an - Surah Al-Kahf. The main reason he is considered by many as a Prophet is that it appears that Allah spoke to him directly. Famous scholars like Fakhr-ud-Deen Ar-Razi and Ibn Hajar said that he is a Prophet. Even some Sahaba like Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Aas(RA) said that he is a Prophet. However, other Sahaba like Ali(RA) said that he was a righteous king but not a Prophet. The reason for this is that the word Nabi is never used. Allah speaking to him is interpreted in two ways: 1. He was spoken to through an angel and thus he is a Prophet. 2. Ilham - intuition, vision, feeling from Allah. This does not make him a Prophet. The famous scholar of Tafseer Ibn Juzay says that “It is possible that Allah communicated through Ilham and if this is the case, there is no evidence of his Prophethood.” Another famous scholar Al-Aalusi says that this Ayah(Ayah of Allah speaking to him) is used as evidence for those who say Dhul Qarnain is a Prophet as they say that he was spoken to by an angel or even directly. People who believe Dhul Qarnain is not a Prophet say that he was spoken to through another Prophet at that time or as Ilham. The evidence is not confirmatory, so all we can say is that we don’t know if he is a Prophet or not and that Allah knows best. III. Tuba’ - He is mentioned twice in the Qur’an: (i) Surah Ad-Dukhan, Ayah 37. (ii) Surah Al-Qaaf, Ayah 12-14. Allah lists all groups who rejected the Prophets and mentions Tuba’s nation there. The situation is complicated when we look at the Hadith about Tuba’: (i) The Prophet(SAW) said “I don’t know if Tuba’ is also cursed or not and I don’t know if Dhul Qarnain is a Prophet or not.” This is considered an authentic Hadith in Abu Dawood. There is another version of this Hadith that says “I don’t know if Tuba’ is a Prophet or not.” but this is considered a scribal mistake. (ii) In Musnad Imam Ahmed, there is a Hadith that prohibits us from cursing him because he was a good man. (iii) In another Hadith in Musnad Imam Ahmed, the Prophet(SAW) said “Tuba’ was a good man who accepted Islam.” This appears to be an authentic Hadith. The Hadith points towards the conclusion that Tuba’ is not a Prophet because he is just described as a “good man who accepted Islam” and that is not how Prophets, generally, are described. Also, we don’t know anything about him. But ultimately, we do not know and Allah knows the best. IV. Uzayr - His name only occurs once in the Qur’an in Surah Tawbah where Allah says that the Jews say that Uzayr is Allah’s son. Ibn Katheer says that the famous opinion is that he was a Prophet. This seems to be the correct one but Allah knows the best. V. Khidr - There is a lot of controversy around him. Interestingly, he is not mentioned by name in the Qur’an but is found in Hadith literature. Khidr is not his name, it is his title. The reason that Khidr is a controversial topic is that there is some strands within Sufism who believe that the Awilyahs of Allah get divine knowledge and they know that it is divine knowledge but they are not Prophets. We all agree that there is something called Ilham but the difference between Ilham and the Sufi sayings is that you cannot know with certainty that Ilham is from Allah until you do it and then you realize that it is from Allah but the Sufism says that the Awliyahs know that it is from Allah and that kind of makes it like Prophecy and so it is really near the dangerous territory. The primary evidence that Sufism uses to say that their kind of divine revelation is possible is Khidr. According to them, Khidr is the highest Wali and he got “العلم من لدنه”(knowledge from Him) and so he did what he did. However, the story in the Qur’an indicates very clearly that he was a Prophet primarily because no one can take a life just based on Ilham. VI. Yusha - He is not mentioned by name in the Qur’an but he is mentioned by the incident in Surah Al-Kahf in Musa(AS)’s story. He is mentioned by another incident in a Hadith in Bukhari and Muslim but not by name. His name is found in an authentic Hadith in Musnad Imam Ahmed. So, by all likelihood, he is a Prophet. VII. Sheeth - He is Adam(AS)’s son and the name of Sheeth occurs in the Hadith of Abu Dharr Al-Ghifari. This Hadith is considered authentic by some scholars and so he is considered as a Prophet. However, this Hadith is said to be weak and that shows that he is not a Prophet. He is found in the Old Testament but, in our Islamic sources, it depends on if you believe the Hadith to be authentic or weak. This ends the entire summary. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

Summary(Important Notes) of The Stories of The Prophets- 4. The Prophets Named in The Quran Part 1 Personal note: السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته This is Part-1 of the summary. Part-2 is commented in a different comment as the summary is too long to be commented on in one comment. The other comment is also in this comment box. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. The personal note ends... Are there Prophets not mentioned in the Qur’an? 1. The number of Prophets and Messengers is not known to us but what we do know is that there were far more Prophets and Messengers than what is mentioned in the Qur’an. This is explicit in the Qur’an - (i) Surah An-Nisa, Ayah 164. (ii) Surah Gafir, Ayah 78. 2. The Old Testament has many details about Prophets who are not mentioned in the Qur’an. We will not be going over those but that doesn’t mean we are rejecting it. 3. The Qur’an tells that Prophets and Messengers were sent to every single nation. Evidence - Surah Fatir, Ayah 24. This Ayah does not mean that there was a Prophet sent to every generation before the Prophet(SAW) came. Also, just because a Prophet was sent to an Ummah, doesn’t mean that every human of that Ummah had access to that knowledge. There can be people who have genuine excuses and everyone will be judged based on their circumstances. 4. Even though a Messenger has been sent to an Ummah, it does not guarantee that the message will remain till the end of time. History has shown and the Qur’an indicates that message of every single Prophet has eventually become corrupted and lost. Many names of the Prophets have been completely wiped off but there is a whiff of truth in all the civilizations. 5. The concept that the Prophets were sent during intervals and not necessarily overlapping is found in the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Evidence - (i) Surah Al-Maidah, Ayah 19. Allah calls the gap between the coming of two Prophets “الفترة”. (ii) The scholars of Tafseer called the people who didn’t get the message of the first Prophet and didn’t get the message of the second Prophet- أهل الفترة(people of the time frame). These people may have an excuse on the Day of Judgement, this is seen in an authentic Hadith. 6. The most obvious example of this is in the Arab world itself. Although Prophets like Ibrahim(AS) and Ismail(AS) were sent, the message they came with had become so corrupted that the knowledge was not accessible anymore and so there came to be the “Hunafaa” - People who rejected all religions and said that they will only follow the religion of Ibrahim(AS). The most famous of these is Zayd ibn Amr ibn Nufayl who died before the Prophet(SAW) got the revelation but will have an excuse on the Day of Judgement. Even the Qur’an calls the Quraysh “people whose forefathers were not warned.” and thus affirming that the knowledge is not around anymore and cannot be taken as the establishment of truth. How Many Prophets and Messengers are mentioned in the Qur’an and the Sunnah? A. The common opinion is that there are exactly 25 Prophets mentioned in the Qur’an. Ibn Katheer lists them in his book about the stories of the Prophets: 1. Adam 2. Idrees 3. Nuh 4. Hud 5. Saleh 6. Ibrahim 7. Lut 8. Isma’il 9. Ishaq 10. Ya’qub 11. Yusuf 12. Ayyub 13. Shu’aib 14. Musa 15. Haroon 16. Yunus 17. Dawood 18. Sulaiman 19. Ilyas 20. Al-Yasa’a 21. Zakariya 22. Yahya 23. Isa 24. Muhammad(SAW) 25. Dhul Kifl (according to most scholars of Tafseer/not completely agreed upon) B. There are Ayahs in the Qur’an where Allah mentions quite a lot of the Prophets in one place. One such place is Surah Al-e-Imran, Ayah 33 onwards. Allah states the main families from which all the known Prophets came - Adam(AS), Nuh(AS), the family of Ibrahim(AS), and the family of ‘Imran. C. The longest list of Prophets mentioned in a single paragraph in the Qur’an is in Surah Al-An’am, Ayah 83-86. After this long series, Allah says that we should take guidance from their guidance. Allah mentions 18 Prophets - Ibrahim(AS), Ishaq(AS), Ya’qub(AS), Nuh(AS), Dawood(AS), Sulayman(AS), Ayyub(AS), Yusuf(AS), Musa(AS),Haroon(AS), Zakariyyah(AS), Yahya(AS), Isa(AS),Ilyas(AS), Ismail(AS), Al-Yasa’a(AS), Yunus(AS), and Lut(AS). D. Another group of Prophets mentioned in the Qur’an is the term “الأسباط”. Evidence - (i) Surah Al-Baqqarah, Ayah 136. (ii) Surah Al Baqarah, Ayah 140. (iii) Surah An-Nisa, Ayah 163. Here, it is very explicitly illustrated that “الأسباط” means Prophets. E. Some people have misunderstood that “الأسباط” means 12 Prophets and they have this misunderstanding because the number “12” occurs with “الأسباط” in the Qur’an. In Surah Al-A’raf, Ayah 160, Allah says that He divided the Bani Israel into 12 “الأسباط”. F. According to the Lexicographers, the word “الأسباط” means the same thing as the “قبائل” except that, in Arabic, “الأسباط” is only used for the Bani Israel and “قبائل” is only used for Bani Ismail. So, the tribes of Bani Israel are only called “الأسباط” and the tribes of Arab(Bani Ismail) are only called “قبائل”. G. In the context of the Ayah of the Prophets, the use of this term implies all of the Prophets of Bani Israel starting from Yaqub(AS) to Isa(AS). Bani Israel was blessed with something that no other nation got which is continuous Prophets. This blessed status was lifted once they got corrupted. The Prophets are found in the Old Testament, although we don’t necessarily believe in the exact names. This ends Part 1 of the summary. Part 2 is posted in a different comment. Anyone who thinks I have missed some point is welcome to reply but please give the time in the lecture when Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi talked about it so that I can be sure. JazakaAllah Khair

39:50 Subhan'Allah, I never read the verses about Dhulqarnain thinking Allah was actually communicating with him, whether directly or indirectly. I thought it just meant that Allah destined for Dhulqarnain to have a lot of power and that consequently Dhulqarnain will have to decide whether he will use his power to punish his people or treat them kindly. I never saw it as a dialogue, but just as stating what was going on. Learning new things every day. This is a HUGE and VITAL topic to counter evolutionary theory of religion from the secular and atheist thinkers. This topic is rarely discussed except by some of our scholars like Umar Farooq Abdallah.

Musa's Journey with Khidr parallels Muhammad's Journey through the Barzakh, a dreamlike series of events, with the Rasul asking and given no answer and told to continue, only Musa lacks Sabr and Muhammad has Sabr and Muhammad's journey is not stopped and he learns more while Musa is told he could've learned more. Khidr would be an angel, and Muhammad seemed to know Khidr as he explains the name, and Khidr being an Angel would explain him killing the child.

I heard Umar thought DhulQarnyan was an angel. A qarn is a soor, the angel with two qarns is israfil. Also DhulQarnayn was asked about by the Jews as a test that only a rasul would know, along with questions about the companions of the kahf and the ruh. Also Dhul Qarnayn is connected to Yajuj wa Majuj, which connects him with Isa and the Dajjal.

You said in previous video, that scholars are inheritors of the prophets; can’t that inheritance play a role in preserving the teachings of the gospel (injeel)? Something that is inherited, cannot be COMPLETELY lost. 8:40
@SafaRaghib3 жыл бұрын
Assalamualaikum, could you clarify your question please? As for prophets themselves, the Quran and Hadith confirm certain things of the Gospel and those we as Muslims affirm: the flood of Nuh (Noah) AS or the splitting of the sea for Musa (Moses) AS for instance. So it is not completely lost. As for former laws that don't apply to a new nation, for instance the saturday sabbath, of course the new prophet doesn't teach those except for mentioning them sometimes because that would be an endless list of abrogated laws spanning thousands of years, where's the benefit in that? And as for information that we are taught was changed or corrupted of course the new prophet wouldn't teach his people those things except to mention or condemn them. The drunkenness of Nuh AS, for instance: if the later prophet knew that information was a corruption and falsehood, why would he preserve that? As for the scholars being the inheritors of the prophets, it means they now inherit the knowledge they were taught and the responsibilities of preaching, teaching and leading the people to the best of their ability. The context of this hadith was that there will be no new prophet after Muhammad SAWS, so the mantle of these responsibilities goes to the scholars who have to do their best without any direct new revelation from God. To be sure there were people of every era who did this sincerely, including the followers of Isa (Jesus) AS. The only guarantee Muslims have over the previous generations is that God said that as the Quran is the final revelation, it's incorruptibility is His responsibility. As for all the previous revelations, time did show corruption in the various revelations as one would expect, but even we Muslims don't say the Gospel was 100% corrupted. It mentions heaven and hell and sin and forgiveness and lots of other things we agree on.

As for not calling him a nabi, that would apply to Dhul Kifl as well, so that doesn't necessarily negate the possibility of him being a prophet. Neither does his being in the presence of Musa AS, because Musa AS crossed paths with Shuaib AS also, who was a prophet in another land. Allah SWT sometimes sent multiple prophets in the world at a time. Khizr's AS amount of knowledge of the unseen is quite atypical of prophets and angels, but we know it has been occasionally given to both. I think we don't have any way of knowing, and that Allah SWT was purposefully ambiguous as to his identity other than being a slave of Allah, because like the number of people in the cave, the detail isn't relevent to the lesson of the story. Khizr himself wasn't the moral of the story, he was just being an agent of Allah. The age old questions "why do good things happen to bad people?","why do bad things happen to good people?" and "why do young innocent people die all the time?" are all answered, and the answer is "you don't know the whole picture, only Allah knows". If Khizr's AS identity was elaborated on, the moral seems to just become "Khizr knew more than Musa"

Why does Allah tell us to remember Dhul Khifl if there is no information given about him in the Quran? This question has bugged me for a while.

Auzair was probably osiris. And some jews whilst enslaved during the pharoahs worshipped osiris as a son god. And kidr in my opinion is the same person mention in the bibles called kadar. Interesting that in the bible it mentions kadar as regards to being from arabia and for his sons "generation") to rejoice. Muslim comparative religious people like deedat and dr zakir naik say that kadars verses in the bible are regarded by them as prophechy regarding Muhammad pbuh. Maybe theres a link between kidr who meets musa and kadar in the old testament. Afterall doesnt Allah say go and read the injel and torah and use your intellect. And i find it amazing if not miraculous that even after all the different Versions of the bible our prophet Muhammad is hinted at if not predicted indirectly

Why do two prophets come at the same time? Like Samuel and David, David and Nathan, Nathan and Solomon, Haggai and Zechariah, Jesus and John the Baptist, etc.. those prophets overlap each other. In fact, the gap 13:01 that you speak of (where there is no prophet) seems to exist only before the messiah for ~500 years and after the messiah . Actually the same thing happened with Moses for ~460 years. So why does God send a handful of prophets all at once, then doesn’t send any for centuries?
@FnD42123 жыл бұрын
Its not abnormal God sent more than one prophet in one city, such in surah Yasin. However the gap of centuries between a prophet only happen on one nation, not whole world. God still send a prophet to different city.

Why is there isn't a single fact nailed about the universe in the Quran? Infact it has some errors when it explains how our solar system works. Please elaborate on this instead of taking only about people every single time
