Chessbrah needs more content like this. I've played chess for years and this 20 minutes taught me basics and fundamentals I've never learned. Most instructors teach "put this here" and "put that there". But never explain why. This showed me why space control matters and why the value of the pieces are what they are. It also shows me what a "bishop from hell" or "best knight in history" means. Thanks, Yasser!

I'm not proud to say this, but a few years back I had a drug addiction. One day I was meeting my dealer down a dark alleyway, as I did every week. We made the trade, and I began my journey back home. It was then when I heard sirens in the distance. Naturally, I picked up the pace, but the sirens steadily got closer. Eventually I could hear the car at the end of the street, and started running. When I glanced backwards I saw Eric Hansen screaming "I need some speed" whilst Aman Hambleton played a techno song I had mistaken for sirens. They caught up to me quickly, and Hansen grabbed a hockey stick and whipped it across my ankles. I fell to the ground in pain, but quickly tried to get up. Hansen jumped on me, stopping my escape, shouting "That's not a move chief!". The chessbrahs took my wallet, phone and drugs, and left me tied up, bruised and sore on the side of the street. Don't support these guys.

Nice! The extra point for the queen because of the perpetual check was a little strange tho imo. Its a VERY powerful thing ofc but why would that count as 1 material point? I've heard the explanaiton before that the Queen acts as a rook and bishop combined. Which should be 8. But the Queen can change from black to white squares which a bishop cant. So the Queen can operate on different colour diagonals. Therefore the Queen is slightly more powerful then a combined rook and bishop. So its worth 9 instead of 8.

A rook is 5 because a supercomputer calculated if pawn=1 point, a rook is even against 5 pawns
@reluminopraha5948
@reluminopraha5948 2 жыл бұрын
@@edbunkers4516 The value is a traditional heuristic knowledge from times when no computers were used to analyze chess, the less any supercomputers. Humans were. To be true, I learned queen as worth 10. For beginners, they probably are.
@reluminopraha5948
@reluminopraha5948 2 жыл бұрын
It is an interesting argument! I would tend to agree with you. The "combinationality" is definitely also a factor. The reason why queen is 9 while two rooks 10 is said that the queen cannot protect itself while one rook can protect the another. Hence in the endgame two rooks tend to eat pawns more easily then the single queen. I also had an idea how to "improve" or "innovate" the chess. By letting bishops change the color. Eg. one step left or right would be added to common bishop moves. Though, it would ruin the chess knowledge. Still interesting as the experiment.

@yewchoobes
@yewchoobes 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's why two rooks (5 each) are worth more than one queen (9): the rook is faster than the queen as it's a bit lighter to pick up so you end up saving time on the clock, which could win you the game.

The bishop can control 7 squares, compared to knights 6 squares, AND it can also change the side of the board faster, when intercepting or supporting pawns. BUT, the knight can support or block both colours of squares, when the pawn is promoting. AND the knight forks are tricky in blitz.
