I always wonder why lute- and guitar-versions of this highly expressive piece lack expressiveness at all. As here most transcriptions sound rather like a lullaby. This is far away from the character of this piece and inacceptable. Yes, plucked strings are limited in shaping the tone but I play a transcription of this piece on my Chitarrone matching pretty close the character of the original cello-version. With respect, Mr. Imamura, your interpretation in boring.

In the baroque period, it was common to play music on different instruments (even though it was written with one instrument in mind), but it inevitably changed the character of the piece - you played it like you would play a piece written for your instrument. I don't know what's your idea of a sarabande played on a lute, but I am sure that Mr. Imamura pretty much nailed it.
