Great shave, John! I agree that blade choice and the razor head design definitely plays a role in the feel of the shave sometimes more than blade gap.

The blade clamping on the Alpha is amazing, makes for smooth efficiency. I have it in bronze

Yes, the Yates 921- M plate you’re using is bead blasted. I have it but with H plate. I also have the Alpha outlaw evolution ss but haven’t used it yet. I’ve been using mostly Yates merica and Rockwell T2 ss with Astra and personna blades. 😊

Lather looked great on Macduffs - that's a tallow soap right? From what I could see when you held up the razors there might be a couple other differences to consider. Yates has a flatter, more Henson-like top cap. For me, that's the main cause of drag. Alpha has a traditional rounded cap - my preference. Also it looks like Yates had more blade extension (unsupported blade) than the Alpha. Here the Henson comparisons are swapped - the Alpha blade support seems more like a Henson, the Yates a bit more traditional. Great video as always!
