I beat him in less than 10 tries with a mage build. Got the lightning talisman because lightning is his weakness, got barrier talisman to counteract his dark realm, and got resistance talisman to basically become immune to the poison pools in the area and also to some of his attacks, Wasn't much of a hassle after that.

I mean. If it takes a PhD to figure out the right build for each boss then fine, but the older you get the less time and head space you have for this kinda thing. I'm resigning myself to quitting the game at this stage. I can see how I'd be obsessed with it when I was younger and had time, but not when work and looking after a family all require their grind as well!

This boss really stripped the enjoyment right out of this game. My attacks do very little damage and after five minutes of fighting he just kills me with one hit.

Yep. This game has a really imbalanced difficulty curve. You’re fighting the camera, locking on makes it hard to hit the arms. His grab attack one shots you and comes out extremely fast leading to dozens of fights where I’ve gotten him low only to die in one shot from almost full health. This fight sucks. Its just not fun.

ya i like this game, but so far the bosses have been nothing special. you basically have to figure out their 3 attacks, then just always do the right thing and slowly whittle down the health bar over what feels like waaay too long and risk getting one shotted if you make any mistakes. once you get the patterns down with the bosses, the fights become more tedious than challenging

The best part about this fight is right before you enter the boss room, there’s a Nure-Onna chilling. So sometimes you can enter the boss room, stunned by Nure-Onna’s stone attack, and basically start the boss fight with only 15% health… yayyy

Not a lot of people seem to know that you can remove the poison on the ground by breaking all the (snake?) statues in the cavern. I was one of them. Took me like a few hours of tries with those poison pools then when I accidentally removed them by just going back and exploring, it was 1000000x easier.

Now here's a great piece of advice for all of you when you hit a brick wall with a boss watch someone else beat it a couple times try again and if you still fail trust me have a nap and sleep on it when you wake up it becomes so much easier because you've allowed your brain to process all the information you've gathered due to this you can use and execute it much faster since you've slept on it. It's how I've beaten most of these bosses.

That's happened to me so many times and it never fails to make me laugh. I'd be struggling with a boss and eventually just give up for the night, come back to it the next day and beat it first try. Love that.

After so many tries finally beat this boss, in the most epic way too. Took its health to 1/3 or 1/4 went into Yokai form as soon as it summoned dark realm took down its ki, use my Ultimate with Yokai form, then stabbed it in the head for the finish. The hype I felt after I won in such a way-unreal

keep your distance, only attack when he has both arms in the ground, focus for ~10 minutes. win. This guy is pretty fast tho i think.

Thanks for the guide, thanks to it I was able to beat it at level 19 using only high stance spear. Although because I was always unable to kill the arms in the Yokai Realm I just didn't attack and kept on evading in the Yokai Realm lol

Yeah you can block his tail a bunch. It's during the shift when you suddenly get 3 targets that things get tough.

My main issue is the poison pool... everytime he uses a punishable move its sitting in a pool and I cant dodge snakes cause of the slow from pool

@@ahdksah5939 you can get rid of the pools easily - in the are before the boss, there are snake statues (in cave for example). If you destroy them, poison pools wont spawn in boss fight :)

Nothing screams "quality game design" like spawning multiple enemies for a combat system that clearly isn't designed for it. I like Nioh 2 but sometimes I feel like it eschews good game design in favor the "lol ur ded nao" factor.

Finally beat this after a month of hard labour. Just a couple notes I found helpful. As mentioned use the high stance and heavy attacks but use the right stick to switch the target to the body instead of the head. That way the snake arms will be targeted which are the main aim. Make sure to kill off the small snakes by switching the target reticule during the dark phase and it helps to have a ranged weapon but not essential. Good luck friends. You'll need it

Another tip: you dont always need to burst counter. The boss leaves itself open to attacks as long as you dodge to the side you can get some easy hits off

Also, with dual swords, low stance and the triangle jump attack you can "exploit" his charge. Attack him from one side when he is close to the wall, if you are close too, he will charge a 2nd time, thats when you hit triangle, dodging his 180 and can continue to strike. one of the two chances to get some damage in. Other is when he has both arms in the ground.

To anyone playing in 2022 heres a little more help. I hated the fight at first and agreed it had way too much hp but when you learn the proper strategy to defeat it the fight isnt too bad. - Use and odachi, high stance - Back away from the snake wait for it to bury both arms and sprint towards it, after the second head pops up you get a free heavy attack (Lock onto body here not the head) - Chop off one or both limbs and back off again, this time wait for it to slither towards you when you get another free heavy attack (Make sure to lock onto its head!! not the body) - Repeat until the fights over

At least in patch 1.05 Yatsu does not return from the dark real as soon as the snakes are defeated, there is a variance. Sometimes it is triggered on the snakes sometimes on Yatsu running out of Ki.

i actually took this one on my second try. with switchglaive and some onmyo spells. was using lightning talisman for wep buff, steel talisman aswell as lifeshot talisman, and it went down without to much trouble. hes weak against lightning, so the lightning talisman wep buff will help quiete abit here.

Make sure you remove the poison from the area by destroying the snake idol figures around the level first. Makes it a lot easier.

Quite trivial with a ninja build, but it was a tedious struggle on my hatchets/katana melee build. The hit boxes are tiny and it's hard to land hits, even more so to land a full combo. It wasn't that hard in the end, just bait the burrowing arm attack and punish the head, disengage in the Dark Realm, rinse and repeat. Effective if not time consuming and a bit dull.

Been smashing my face against this boss for about 5 hours over three days now, the thing just has near 0 downtime. You have to be close to do damage and if you're close you're getting hit with a massive AOE (the full body spin that seems to cover like a quarter of the arena) or grapple (getting wrapped up) until you run out of heals and eventually drop. I've tried hit and run, run in get a hit or two and run away with varying results. Throwing enchanted hatchets at it and running away (how I beat 2nd boss). Summoning AI teammates who last 30 seconds max while I try to slam it with enhanced weapons. Grinding up yokai form/ smashing it with yokai abilities, which leaves it on like 2/3 HP when the gauges run out. If anyone thinks of something obvious I'm missing feel free to tell me, it would be much appreciated.

Hit and run is the way to go. His hits do surprisingly little ki damage when blocked, throw up that guard when ever you're painted in to a corner and you should get it him in no time 👍

I'm nearly falling asleep during his hands-in-the-ground phase and then get ravaged in dark realm. I never thought there was such a bad boss in any game. Hino Enma was an unbalanced pos too but at least you didn't need uppers to stay awake.

I didnt hear it mentioned but it is possible to kill the arms while they are still attached giving you less to juggle in the Dark Realm. However it also causes him to stop sending the arm into the ground and focus solely on grabbing you which has a tiny window for an attack or two

I tried a bunch of strategies, nothing seemed to work. In the end, it was simple - dodge from everything and only go in when he used that attack when he buries the snakes. Run in, hit the body from the snakes’ side, you’ll see the damage on the snakes. They’ll eventually die. Repeat the process, you’ll get the damage in eventually.

Ok i tried few more times. I dont know what level you are, but I'm like lvl 22 or so here. I do STRAIGHT 46 dmg with the shuriken to the little worms and you do 364 and mostly 209! or you have a full ninjutsu set giving you some sick dmg on shurikens and stuff or you are overleveled? but I can't overlevel here couse I did all missions until now.... PLUS: I fought the boss for about 20 minutes, he started going into the other realm very often and I couldn't cope with 2 little worms and him around all the time, and I did no dmg at all to the boss

ok guys when you attack him from the side a health bar for one of his arms will appear try your best to not decapitate them untill his stamina bar is nearly gone if you do it to early it will be harder to attack him because he wont plunge his arms into the ground and they wont grow back untill he comes back from the Yoki relm good luck hopes this helps

Facts the lower your gear weight, the faster the ki gauge move. I typically keep mine in the green, blue is even better movement.

to counter if he's already close. wait 0.5 seconds and hit him. if far just wait for 1 second and hit him. but yeah you better off just dodging him to the side to get a few hits in. it's just his health is to damn high and makes the fight longer and if your not calm you end up using almost all your potions. that's why most like me is having a hard time beating him. is it's health that's the real issue. right now I can do nearly 1000 damage with a blood odachi. but didn't matter anyway because it's tail alone can clean 70% of my health off. and yes his grab is a one hit kill. I even saw videos of high level players and you wont even believe how much health it got. it's almost as much as a boss before final boss. like what the hell? the close I got on him is 8% health. and it seems those bosses has a.i. learning because the more you keep fighting those bosses the more they well kick your ass faster. or it's just the fact you get to stressed that it makes it seem like that's the case.

My tip, use your block... I can't even follow this guys melee attacks so I just block. Died like 10-12 times. Also, shoot the glowy cystal on his head for some ki damage.

31 deaths. And I won by luck. Like, destroyed the snakes first, then it went dark world, then snakes regen so I killed them again, but the gaps between dark world is smaller, so it is better to kill the snakes quickly. I aaaalmost lost cuz I was Feral, and maybe I don't know how to use it properly, but it didn't damage is much as Phantom. I had no potions left and ninjutsu saved the shit out of me. It also may help to know that the boss is weak to lightning.

Odd that you aren't going ham on it when you deplete its ki bar. Making this fight take way longer than it should, also not hitting it when it slithers by on its red move. Really making this fight take too long and that's where I was struggling. Wear down ki, stun lock the hell out of it as much as you can, back off. Whack its ass when it slithers by.

Why you have no pool of poisons in your fight? The poison was such a hassle to me when moving/dodging around.

If you destroy all the snake statues in the area the poison is removed from the arena.

The boss design is BAD. Due to no stagger, his only safe attack to punish is his snake arms. Once his stamina is down you have to run around for a full minute avoiding him and his cronies because he loses his arms while the entire arena becomes a trap infested hell, on top of the pools that slow you down and poison you. Then you repeat fucking 10 times. Christ. This game should not have been like this, you at max need to go through that cycle twice in a good game. Don't let the dark souls swamp guy near this game's design documents this is actually boring. Also attacking the head is a trap since it does no extra damage and only pushes the boss' hitbox away from you outside of the rest of your hits.

This boss definitely has poor design and actively works against the established mechanics. 1. Parrying: Doesn't work because the swipe is the full room and hits consecutively to the point even a low stance block puts you in a stagger 2. Aesthetic: The snakes are black against a dark backdrop and the lock-on targets the part that sways around the most, so anyone using slow-hitting weapons isn't going to get their money's worth 3. Yokai Counter: Does little to nothing, as at this stage you have no techniques to follow-up and use that window to deal massive damage. 4. Boss Arena: Tiny and does not account for the huge swing of the boss' tail swipe 5. Hitbox: The boss' hitbox is not its body. It's half its upper torso and its head, which makes the tactics that you've been learning up until then, again, useless. It's a great game, but this boss looks like it belongs in Devil May Cry instead of Nioh 2.

This boss really isn't so hard, there are buffs to poison resistance that can help you get through a lot easier.

I agree. Literally halve the health of most boses or legit add an easy mode. I build houses for a living and enjoy this game, but God damn I want to have fun not get killed in one hit.

Hah this guy, I actually was real scared as it has some reputation, but actually did him on like 3rd try (when second try he killed me at 5 percent hp jesus). So you gotta respect the guy and its managable, his TRUE weakness is the long ass recovery after most of his abilities - when he pokes handsnakes into ground you can smack him for absolutely free damage, same after his charge etc... Also big tip: remove small snakes before he goes into yokai realm, and when that happens just transform and beat the shit out of him. Whole fight is so much easier this way... Enenra (the boss before) gave me much more trouble, as he was really really aggressive and in my face, not giving me such nice windows for punish. Also - if you are looking for easy mod build - axes are where its at. Main stat is stamina, which means that by scaling up your damage, you are also scaling up your armor type, health, toughness and defense with that, making you so much harder to kill... And at bosses like this, every boss opening can be punished incredibly hard by some of the biggest baddest attacks in whole game (High stance strong and such), shortening the fights considerably, while allowing you to oneshot typical mobs.

@@muizmohd7301 maybe he is wearing the full fuma set, you can get pretty much the whole thing up to this point. Boosts shuriken a lot from what I hear
