To commemorate the 20-year anniversary of the Famicom and NES in 2003 and 2005 respectively, Nintendo re-issued several classic games for the console on the Game Boy Advance. The US saw 12 of these releases while Japan received 30. Additionally, a three-part set was available through the Club Nintendo website in Japan. In this video I take a look at the differences between the US and Japanese releases and unbox the latter.

No lie, I actually still look at this video every now and then because it helped me decided which game to buy and you helped me a lot with your knowledge about the set and also giving a brief look on the games. This is the only thing about Nintendo that had me go and collect only 2 titles. In my opinion, the box art from the Famicom library look way better than the NES and that is why I bought them. But again, thanks for uploading these awesome Nintendo videos. If I ever need info on any Nintendo systems or products, I always go to your channel due to you being really informative :) Thanks again!

13:09 "Well, they failed miserably in comparison to this set." Not really, I have some Classic NES Series games I got factory sealed quite recently(Dr. Mario, Bomberman, and others) and they look great, I wish you would've done a full evaluation of the Classic NES Series boxes. But, both Classic NES Series and Famicom Mini look like they're full of nostalgia. I should really start playing more NES games again!

I think he was referring to effort in this case. The Famicom Mini set looks marginally better than what we got..better replicated too. Making the boxes for the games "mini" was pretty cool too.

Just to inform, this was not a set you ordered or used Club Nintendo coins to purchase. If you purchased all ten games in one set and registered them with your Club Nintendo Account they would mail you the boxes as a reward to put your games in. That's why the games all have Club Nintendo coins.

Actually the disk system was made to allow more complex games as carts were still very limited in size and capacity, The original Super Mario Bros was considered the absolute height one could achieve with carts. This was before advancements in chips allowed for more memory and other features to allow more complex cart games, it was also a form of copy protection, due to how the disks were made requiring the Nintendo branding at the top of the disk for it to work, as well as a way to force developers to pay Nintendo for manufacturing costs as previously in Japan devs were free to make their own carts.

The 1983 8-bit _Mario Bros._ was not released within our GBA "Classic NES" series since the remixed version, known as _Mario Bros. Classic_, had appeared on four different _Super Mario Advance_ titles (the fourth release, based on _Super Mario Bros. 3_, had replaced the original two-player mini-game version) as well as on _Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga_; the only North American release of the original MB on GBA was as an e-Reader title. The remix version's appearance totaled five titles and, along with the e-Reader version, Nintendo of America thought that number was enough for a platform game that old.

I've tried to play the Classic NES games on Visual Boy Advance and for some reason they don't work. Is there a reason for that? I mean on one hand it would be just as easy to download the NES counterparts, which I did, but if they are available on the GBA category I should be able to use them.

Pac-man in the Classic NES series is the most interesting, because it was originally released as an unofficial NES cartridge game from Tengen (Atari), then re-released by Tengen on an official cartridge, then again on the super rare, hard to find, official Namco cartridge. The last one is the one they probably used since they probably changed the title screen so it doesn't say Tengen in the list of companies.

@World of Nintendo: I do have the Japanese Super mario bros.2 GBA cartridge since the GBA was not region lock, even the GBA side of the Nintendo DS was not region lock. Since it was meant for Japan the GBA was more meant for kids so they change something in the GBA version of Super mario bros.2 the lost levels, only the GBA version the continue code still exist if you accidently click on retry. You have to hold A before pressing start on the title screen you have to hold B instead once you got 8 stars on the title screen for World A through D, and the continued code work for does as well on the GBA re-release. The continued code does not work for the Family computer disk system version of Super mario bros.2 including all Virtual console version since you have to hold A for World A through D once you got all the 8 stars on the title screen.

Oh Super Mario Bros 2: Lost Levels! How many lives have I spent in this game? I wonder if they had ported this to the NES in the 1980s, what the box art would have been? This or maybe more akin to the fan made one where both Mario and Luigi are on the cover like the original? This is rather plain to be honest. It took many years but in one format, we did finally get the 8 bit version of this game. Given it was on the Wii's Virtual Console. It was a hundred points more at 600 where most NES were 500, but it was worth it.

Nice job bro my favorite game series on the NES will probably have to be Megaman, the Castlevania is amazing as well as the other franchises like Mario and Zelda. Metroid a ninja gaiden however was a bit problematic, Metroid because it's cryptic set up, well now that Zelda 1 had that problem as well and ninja gaiden because of it's impossible difficulty not to say Castlevania's and hard but yeah :)

Vol 3 has Nazo No Murasame Jo, the one you called Bomberman was Gachapon Senshi Gundam, Famicom Detective Club, and Shin Onigashima. Had to look for these particular ones on ebay to be able to tell you what they are. No I have not played them, but I have ROMS of them, the day I get more original FC carts, these won't be part of them because there's too much Japanese dialog likely in them. Plus I'm not fluent in Japanese as I'm American. The second volume though I recognized the games.
