This is one of the best instructional videos I think I've come across lately. The pace is perfect. I'm not on 1.75 playback speed trying to skip ahead constantly. The information is succinct and thorough. Wish you would make a video teaching people how to teach. 100% would watch.

I'm not a welder, but compared to the big majority of people making videos out there, you are very clear and professional and concise. don't understand why some of these comments are so negative.

Very informative, and your work is beautiful.. I'm a beginner, and I will be welding on a 1928 Model A Ford Roadster.. All the welds will be covered up, but the old car itself is a piece of art.. Thanks so much for your video!!

Thank You SO much for this video! I started MIG welding 2 years ago during a tough period in my life, I needed something to keep my mind off of things. I started welding silverware into art. Small beginnings, but lots of fun! I never knew the fun artistic ways to use the weld.. I am going to put this to practice and perhaps get out of the silverware art for a while.. try something new! I can't afford classes so this was VERY helpful for an adult on a budget that wants to create!! Thank you!

Once I finish with my welding courses I might give this a try. It certainly looks fun. I've already bought an everlast stick welder but now I wonder if I should have bought one of their mig units that can stick weld too??

Know what.. Its so great to have women in welding cuz most companies hire welder who are more focus and more details. Most women do and more care on projects than men. I believe that women should be equal as men in any job positions. By the way, I am impressed with this welding art. way to go :)

Welding since I was 13 and I use both techniques, it depends on what you are trying to do aesthetically and functionally, and the relative thickness/purity of the base material.

Thanks for the method of making wiskers with the mig wire. Not that it mattters but SCFH for the shielding gas flow is 'Standard' cubic feet per hour, not Square cubic feet per hour.

Hi Cindy, SCFH is Standard Cubic Feet per Hour, not Square Cubic Feet per Hour. It refers to the flow rate of the gas at 60 degrees Fahrenheit and about 14.7 psi, which is pretty close to the conditions in a comfortable shop.

Excuse me Sr. It looks like you know a lot about MIG welding, please would you tell me which transfer mode is being used in this video?
@ragnarokzero1988
@ragnarokzero1988 12 жыл бұрын
maestrocheck, it won't let me reply to your comment, globular makes a lot of spatter, basically turns the wire in to globules of molten metal and throws them at the puddle so pretty messy, and anything that could be welded in globular transfer could be welded better in spray transfer, best thing you can do to understand is have ago, you'll need a pretty big mig welder, 210-250amps minimum, full power with 95/5 gas will be spray with the right wire speed, drop a few volts and it'll be globular.

How come you call it MIG-welding. The shielding gas with 25% CO2 is NOT inert but is an active gas. Should then be called by it's correct name MAG-welding. Great description of the safety gear. Really important.

Don't be silly, of course you can touch and rest the gas nozzle on the work piece and weld, most professional welders do this when they are tacking parts together it makes it easier. As long as the tip is not shorted across to the nozzle by spatter etc then nothing can happen. Many amateurs who drag the weld often rest and guide the gas nozzle direct on the work piece - is a common technique, especially with a fillet or lap joint.

i dont see the need to drain the hose of argon after use as its an inert gas and the bottle is off anyway if you were going to do this then you would zero the wire feed to save wasting wire or leaving a long length sticking out nice spine trick a really good weld trick is what i call a black hole galaxy, as you do a really hot weld on sheet steel remove the earth but keep the wire feed going, this allows the wire to pass through the fresh weld staying intact rather than melting.

where there is proper transfer in this video it is dip transfer also known as short circuit, spray transfer is very different to dip transfer, it makes a smooth buzz/hum and no or almost no spatter, when you get into spray transfer you'll know ;) between dip and spray transfer you get globular transfer, which should be avoided.

First off let me say that this is for ARTISTIC welding not STRUCTURAL welding. So the welds will not be as uniform as someone welding as a career. Secondly, many women are great welders and all my instructors will say the same thing, there are many women ironworkers. You don't need a penis to weld. Thirdly, my only criticism about this is that you should NEVER wear a jacket that has a zipper while you are welding, one glob of splatter and you have to cut your jacket off yourself.

Completely wrong to turn the main valve several turns. If there is a fire it should be quick to turn off all gas bottles. Full pressure is obtained at a half-turn.

please do not talk about structural welds till you at least learn to make them yourself, that last weld the "structural weld" was a poor example of a mig weld, it's very dangerous to give advise on things you do not fully understand. also the shroud should have an insulator between it and the contact tip, the shroud should not be live, if it is on your machine you should look into why and get it sorted out, it's usually as simple as cleaning out the spatter but some times a new shroud is needed.

***** Argon mixed with CO2 equals MAG welding. Argon is an inert gas, CO2 is not..
@MrGriswald
@MrGriswald 10 жыл бұрын
Nope, you could maybe refer to CO2 as a semi inert gas, but an argon CO2 mix is a MAG GAS.. Even though the Argon/low CO2 mix used for stainless might be considered inert, the regular mixes between 4-25%CO2 is definitely considered active. Argon and helium and mixes between the two are inert gases even though helium helps raising the temperature in the weld. Think of TIG welding, that wouldn't work with a carbon dioxide mix, would it? But it works splendidly with both argon and helium (depending on material welded, naturally)
@davidrichards8639
@davidrichards8639 9 жыл бұрын
+Arne Olsén At any % mix co2 is a dissociable gas compared to a monotomic gas (argon, helium) and always an active gas.
