The members of NCT-Dream are actually even more impressive with those hoverboards then what you saw. They spent a while working with them and building up their skills. You should see some of the tricks they can do on them. Check out this video that shows just how skilled they are with a hoverboard, kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4OpZqZ_ZbJ_jc0. If you think this choreography was cool, just wait until you see their tricks. They can even ride two hoverboards at the same time, with one foot on each board and do handstands on them, etc. "Chewing Gum" is NCT-Dream's debut song, so you are right, they are very young in this MV. Mark is the oldest at 17, so he is the"leader" of this sub-unit and Jisung is the youngest at 14. NCT-Dream includes Mark (17), RenJun, (16), Jeno (16), Haechan (16), Jaemin (16), Chenle (14) and Jisung (14). SM originally created this sub-unit with the idea that If they had a trainee that they felt was ready to debut even though they were really young, they would start out as a member of NCT-Dream. They were the cute babies of the group who were learning the ropes and honing their skills because they are young, but they are also some of the most talented because they debuted way sooner than a lot of trainees. In most of Dream's songs Jisung is the one who has the dance break. He is the main dancer of NCT-Dream and one of the best dancers in NCT. He is actually known for his popping and locking skills and for the fact that he is sort of a mini Taemin. Jisung pretty much took the exact same path as an SM trainee as Taemin did and Taemin says he sees a lot of his younger self in Jisung. Both Jisung and Taemin became trainees around age 11 and they both debuted at age 14, they both have similar dancing styles and they both pretty much sacrificed their childhood to become an Idol, etc. (Taemin is almost 9 years older than Jisung, so Jisung has grown up idolizing him.) Fun fact: Although Mark is young here, he is the same age as you saw him in NCT-U's "The 7th Sense" and in NCT-127's "Fire Truck" -- which were each sub-unit's debut songs. All three of these songs and MVs came out within a couple of months of each other in 2016. But because of the different concepts and styles of the songs, you get a chance to see how versatile Mark really is as an artist and how he can embrace all sides of himself -- he changes up his style depending on which group he is with at the time. The guy who is playing the school's head student or leader in "Chewing Gum", is not a member of NCT -- as far as I know he is just an actor. (He's not supposed to be much older than them because he is also a student.) As you saw with "Chewing Gum," they started out with a very young and cute concept that fit the fact that they were all teenagers. However, you'll see they don't stay cute and bubbly for long. The whole point of their songs and the concept of the group is to appeal to fans in their age group. Kpop is full of young groups who are trying to appeal to an older, more mature audience. So I think SM Entertainment was pretty clever to created this sub-unit as a way to appeal to a younger demographic. Why not market music to a younger audience? I think it's kind of refreshing that SM decided to start NCT-Dream out with more of a family-friendly concept because all the members were actually still children. NCT-Dream's "My First and Last" is kind of like the Kpop version of the 1980s song "Hot for Teacher" by Van Halen or 2003's "Stacy's Mom" by the American rock band Fortunes of Wayne. LOL. And some even compare it to "Replay" by SHINee. Because all of these songs are about teenagers having a crush on an older woman. :D In "My First and Last" the boys all have a crush on their teacher, but in the end they discover that she is already married -- hence the man you see come to pick her up at the end of the day -- and she even has a baby -- as you see with the baby on board plaque in the car window. She couldn't be any further from unavailable. NCT's overall concept is based on dreams, so everything they do has something to do with being in a dream, dreaming or some sort of dream state, etc. And it's often connected to SM's Universe storyline that connects all the company's groups and artists storylines together. NCT was created as part of SM's plan to achieve global domination and one of the ways the company plans to accomplish that is to make music that reaches all types of fans all over the world, including younger fans. As you go along and see some of NCT-Dream's more recent material, you will see and hear how their style as grown and changed over time. That is also part of the group's concept. As the members grow and mature so too does there sound and style. SM's no dummy when it comes to creating groups that gain global popularity. It just goes to show you why it's one of the Big 3 entertainment companies in the world. :D Instead of creating a group with a sound and style like everyone else, why not do something a little different? This was a great concept for a debut. By keeping their style and sound young, light and fun, NCT-Dream became popular because they were different then all the other groups that were out there at the time. Fans appreciated them for the fact that they embraced their age and didn't try to act and sound older than they were. As you may know, NCT-Dream is NCT's third sub-unit, which began in August 2016, and it is made up of the 7 youngest members of the 23 member group. All the Dream member's are currently between the ages of 20 and 22 years old. The way NCT-Dream originally was designed to work was that the members were part of the group until they turn 19 and become an adult. SM's original plan was that when the members turned 19 they were supposed to graduate from the group and they were no longer considered a member of NCT-Dream. Mark "graduated" from NCT-Dream in 2018, and Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin and RenJun we thought would be graduating in 2019 and become a member of a new sub-unit or be added to a unit that already existed. (Which would have left NCT-Dream with only 2 members, with the idea that new trainees would probably debut sometime in 2020 and become members of NCT-Dream.) However, SM announced at the beginning of 2020 that they decided to make NCT-Dream a permanent group and suspend the whole "graduation" concept, including putting Mark back in the group.

What's good about SM when they debuted Dream was they gave them appropriate concepts given their average age. Like you will see their music change and mature w/ the boys.

For more recent fans, I think sometimes the shock of seeing them so young kinda over-shadows the fact that not only has Dream consistently done some of the most difficult and interesting choreo (seriously, the Dreamies have no dance hole in their line up) but they also won the very first music show award for NCT too with My First and Last. They have slowly and carefully developed as individuals and as a group and their chemistry together is really special. What I love about the NCT setup is that each permanent unit (127, Dream and WayV) each have their own very distinct character, you can tell who it is right away. And yet they have also pulled members from all of those units to work together in so many different combinations for NCT U and it works beautifully every time.

i always thank my lucky stars that i've stanned dream since their "baby" days (literally over here as an aegi shinki, mickey mouse club stan) bc i've truly loved seeing them grow as people AND artists. it's also aggravating asf to see newbie stans act like their old music/eras are embarrassing or beneath them, yall don't deserve dream if you can't recognize that those eras are essential to the dream sound and identity.

I'm not really into these types of concept, but surprisingly I enjoyed Chewing Gum and Hello Future. I usually find this concept boring but not for these songs. There is something unique about them. As for their other tracks, I love them all

5 of them were the original line up called baby shinki (following 5 member legend group DBSK) i.e. Mark Haechan Jeno Jaemin jisung which active since SM Rookies era ( a bit like Disney club concept). When they scheduled to debut in august 2016 it revealed 2 addditional members Renjun and Chenle. They supposed to be the first NCT unit to debut but delayed and reshoot MVchewing Gum again since LSM said have to add hoverboard. But it became their trademark andthey showed up in red carpet using hoverboard. They growing up and grew the concept but the baasic theme still the same i.e. young, dream, friendship, savage I like your reactions since both of ypu wearing smiles and occassionally laughing the whole MV

i dunno if y'all read the comments but just to explain again, nct dream(my favorite unit tbh) has 7 members. But for "My first and last" and "We young" Jaemin is absent due to an injury(it's a back injury that is still actually healing til now, as Jaemin from their recent fansign call. he was in hiatus for a year and a half immediately after debut, but wrecked everyone when he came back lol). He will be back in "Go" cb. After that Mark will be gone at "boom' and ridin" comeback, because of dream's previous graduation concept. However he is active on other units, as you guys have seen.

Dream is my favourite unit because their song are really just so happy and refreshing!
