I feel like the best way of describing UTA is “power metal for people who don’t like power metal,” lol. The things that normally turn me off about PM bands don’t seem to really apply. Many of them come from heavier backgrounds and played in death/black metal bands before this and apparently the Vancouver scene is super heavy so they had to have that certain edge to make it there.
@qmiller9
@qmiller9 4 жыл бұрын
I completely agree! I'm usually more into melodic, death and Progressive metal. Power metal has always seemed lame and hard to take seriously but when it comes to UtA, I can't get enough.
@kebobs3727
@kebobs3727 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed, most powermetal like Sabaton i can enjoy, but after 1 song im done with it. UTA has that edge and their old stuff especially is a LOT heavier. Daughters of Winterstone, Black Goat of the Woods and other songs from that era are heavier than the new stuff and a nice change of pace. They've been great with everything they've done.

Brittany said on an interview that she writes stories for their albums, and then tells the rest of the band what kind of vibe she is looking for. Then they write the music to fit her story. 'Awakening' is the first track on their 'Apex' album. If you listen to it from beginning to end you will see the story she lays out.

I love Brittany Slays she’s an awesome vocalist, I love their songs “General of the Dark Army” and “Tonight We Ride” or like short power metal “Test your Metal” (only because power metal is normally rather long tracks) but there are a couple more bands from Canada that are awesome (female fronted also) different genres tho. Kobra and the Lotus (KatL) - “Soldier” or “50 Shades of Evil” (they are more heavy rock than metal) Motion Device - “Responsibility”, “Thick Skin”, or “Awake” (also more rock or heavy rock than metal) Spiritbox - Rule of Nines (official video then live one take) a lot like Jinjer with more electric sounds) There is one more I recently found but I’ll have to look for them again then edit it in Edit: Lutharo - “Unleash the beast” and “Blood Lightning” another band similar to Jinjer but totally different also

Here's a vague breakdown to give you a bit of context behind this songs lyrics and the album it's from - Apex(2017). This is a concept album telling a story track by track about an Immortal being. This is the opening song on the album. It is sung from the Immortals perspective(not all the tracks are), about being awoken in his mountain hollow from a 1000 year sleep. As a covenant of birth, the immortal must do the bidding of whoever awakens him. As the tracks progress, you find out that The Matriarch(which is played by the male vocalist in this song Awakening) was the one to awaken him. She wants him to find her four sons, so she can kill them and perform a blood ritual to gain immortality for herself(pretty dark haha), and his journey to find them. Each son has their own song about them on the album. The closing song Apex, is about the immortal going back to sleep in his mountain and it is a phenomenally written song. Their new album, which came out in August, is a continuation of this story, and the immortal has awoken on a spaceship confused as hell wondering where tf his mountain is lol from the single Abyss. I won't go into the rest of the album lol 🇨🇦🤘

Yaz: First, I hope you're doing a lot better! It does nobody any good if you're trying to record a video being sick. Second, this band -- and this singer -- are second-to-none! Brittney Slayes, the lead vocalist, is one of the few singers that I believe is within the same level of skill and talent Floor Jansen has. Second, their album for 2020, Abyss, I seriously would consider a contender for New Metal Album of the Year for 2020. And, because you asked, they are from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Here are 5 tracks to check out: 1) Time Stands Still 2) Tonight We Ride 3) Abyss 4) Faster than Light 5) Soulbound Next, I humbly ask that you check out a band from the Ukraine called Ignea. They are a metal band with a Middle Eastern/Persian sound to them. Their lead vocalist, Helle Bogdanova, both sings cleans and growls. They also released an album this year called The Realms of Fire and Death. The tracks I would recommend checking out on this album are Disenchantment and Jinnslammer.

hello yaz and greetings from germany. thank you for your great and genuine reaction. I subscribed. UTA/Vancouver are awesome. powermetal indeed. their new video "faster than light" is hilarious and also very good.and if you like a heavy metal band with positive attitude and lyrics, which toured already UK with dragonforce and played wacken as the first allfemale metalband ever, then check out lovebites. till next time.

OMG UTA I AM VERY EXCITE. I'm going to buckle in and enjoy. They are from Vancouver in Canada, same as Spiritbox. This is definitely power metal, and they don't dance around it. A lot of people have said that Brittney sounds like she could be Dio's long lost child. If you do react to any more UTA, anything from their new Abyss album is going to be fun, you'll definitely have a laugh at "Faster Than Light," but their older stuff like "General Of The Dark Army," "Northwest Passage," "Time Stands Still," and "Tonight We Ride" I think you'll love watching from the perspective of a producer, because they all do show the music being played at points in the video, and really help the deep vocals and instrumentals hit home.

The band started as melodic death metal/power metal and has trended heavily into the power metal side since then. Their old stuff is great but very different. This album, Apex, and their newest album Abyss are a long storyline that is mostly powermetal yes. The album previous to this one has my favorite song of theirs though, "Test Your Metal"

Great reaction but having a bit of a problem with patreon. Not getting any pics though and says I'm not following anyone. By the way the little girl from Dana's Faith, Mia is the biggest fan of this band.

Yes, they are power metal (well actually a fusion of power metal and melodic death metal), and yes they are fantastic... and so are you! Love your reactions and love your personality / style... you have become my favorite 'reactor' and most looked forward to! Most reactors (at least the ones I follow) refrain from any vulgarity, and when they slip, they get all weird about it... as if it's against the rules or something. You on the other hand, just let that potty mouth flow lol, and I love it! That sexy British accent doesn't hurt either. To answer your other question, they are Canadian... from Victoria, British Columbia. As much as I love UTA, and as much as this is a great song, it's far from their best. The album before this one (Test Your Metal) has all their best songs like Tonight We Ride, Time Stands Still and Test Your Metal... those songs display Brittney Slays' vocal range and vocal abilities MUCH better. I really wish everyone wouldn't always request this song for 1st time reactions... Tonight We Ride is probably the best way to go for the 1st reaction. Also... you should check this out, even if you don't react to it... There was this one time that, after they played a full show, they were hanging out at a karaoke bar and Brittney went up and did a Queensryche song, Queen of the Reich... and it was absolutely amazing! ---> kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGmTdYWnpKysgtk&ab_channel=UnleashTheArchers She also covered The Cranberries 'Zombie', just 2 months ago. ----> kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5PQhICFqcSNfrc&ab_channel=UnleashTheArchers Now... a question for you... you mentioned this style is not usually your 'cup of tea', not usually what you would listen to while alone. I'm really wondering what your normal style / taste in sub-genre is? That way I could maybe suggest something for you in that sub-genre that I think you would like.
