I know it's two years after your review but there's something specific about this performance. Throughout the run of the Season the Judges critique of Jessica was that she had the power and the skills but lacked the motivation. That ended up keeping her on the show but she kept playing it safe and came across as meekness. Jennifer not only coached her in rehearsal but you can see she kept turning to Jessica to facially, forcefully and with her whole body encourage her to rage out her vocals. You can even see how Jessica duplicates some gestures and expressions. Jennifer wasn't playing it to the audience, she was publicly showing Jessica how to sell it emotionally.

This was a wonderful performance. I remember watching this live (on TV) and being blown away by how Jessica was hanging in there with Jennifer. Jessica came in 2nd that season but she deserved 1st place. There was no way the majority teenage girl voting audience of American Idol was going to vote for her over a cute guy with a guitar though. Jessica did not stand a chance no matter how much better she sang and performed. Jessica was also only 16 years old when she was on American Idol which was another strike against her as far as the teenage girl votes went. They viewed her as just another teenage girl like themselves and they were really catty with their comments about Jessica. As far as her career has gone....she has had some success here in the U.S. but for her level of talent she should be much more successful. She was born and raised here in the U.S. and had never traveled to the Philippines until after her whole American Idol journey had been over for awhile. I think this probably helped her in the Philippines though. They viewed her as a Filipino woman that made something of herself in the U.S. and Pinoy pride took it from there. She has been a bigger star in the Philippines than she has been in the U.S. and Filipino's are very proud of her and what she has accomplished. She has only gotten better with time and I really appreciate how she has matured as a singer. You might want to check out her version of "A whole new world" that she sings with Leroy Sanchez (no relation). The video of them singing can be found here on KZbin. Just search for Jessica Sanchez and Leroy Sanchez here on KZbin and you will find it. It is very much worth the effort.
