We are a marketplace platform for blue collar services and errands. We recently announced on whatsapp that we'll help people in Lagos Island buy fuel, so they can save time and effort, as fuel scarcity is one of the current biggest problems in Nigeria.

Even if someone isn't launching a startup but working on some other project the desire to make it perfect can delay us from finishing it .I deal with this tendency myself, very educational video it was really good to watch, I hope i can apply what i learned.

"launch right now" isn't always the answer. This leads to subpar products that fall through the cracks getting launched. Launching isn't just about the product, it's about marketing, positioning, onboarding experience etc. It is not 2010 any more and people have expectations.
@marcusi9166
@marcusi9166 Ай бұрын
“Launch as soon as possible” would be better phrasing. The product still has to be developed enough that it makes at least 1 person happy

Summary with highlights 00:01 Launch early and launch frequently - Launch early to determine if you're solving a big enough problem - Launch frequently to iterate and improve until you have a core of users 03:04 Having a core group of users who really love you is important for growth - Understand why users love your product and do more of it - Create a clear and succinct one-sentence pitch to help spread the word about your company 05:47 Be concise and avoid meaningless jargon while pitching. - Start with a crisp and relevant sentence about the company and what it does. - Avoid rambling, give context up front, and communicate efficiently. 08:31 Use descriptive, personalized language when pitching your startup. - Avoid overused X for Y constructions, but use analogies if they are the best way to explain your business to investors, press, etc. - If using an X for Y analogy, ensure that X is a household name, it's clear why Y would want X, and Y represents a huge market. 11:08 Launching early can help you practice and refine your idea - Silent launch: create a simple landing page with domain name, company name, short description, and a call to action - Friends and family launch: test your pitch and gather feedback, but don't stay in this phase for too long 13:42 Direct customer feedback is crucial for building the right product. - Doordash founders spoke to over 200 small business owners to create a product that solved their problems. - Online communities like Bookface and Hacker News' Show HN can provide low risk ways to launch and get early feedback. 16:05 Successfully launch on Hacker News with a simple waitlist strategy - Communities have different audiences, know what appeals to them - Be authentic and avoid marketing/promo language 18:34 Launch again and again to build an engaged community - Pre-order campaigns should be planned properly to maximize success and guidance is available online - Press is not scalable for sustained growth, building a community is important for future launches.

For most people to understand the analogy, they need to have heard of it, and experienced it in their own life. In this way, most examples will refer to the same startups. Just like when you hear that open AI or artificial intelligence is the new iPhone moment.

I launched a product for farmers and quickly realised that the buyers set the demand for products so producers have to produce what buyers want and in most cases this is not the case. I.e Buyers wanted tomatoes etc and none of the farmers in the community had planted tomatoes to sell. So my customers are the buyers and I need to get farmers to produce what buyers want or what the market wants, which is an education/crop and demand planning problem

Arguments made by the author are: 1. There are different types of launches that a startup can use, including a landing page launch, friends and family launch, launching to strangers, online community launch, and pre-order campaign launch. (12:20-18:55) 2. Building a community is important for startups, and startups should start building their own community while in startup school. (19:56-20:19) 3. Launching is not just one moment in time, and startups should keep launching again and again, even if the first launch doesn't work. (20:45-20:54)
